 A course for leisure and professional boaters wanting to undertake more adventurous trips by day and night, this 2 day course, with at least one night navigation exercise, will provide you with an RYA Advanced Powerboat Course Completion certificate. Anyone undertaking this course must have practical skills of the Intermediate level and theory knowledge of at least Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster level. The course is split between theory and practical, with an emphasis on the application of theory knowledge to practical situations including preperation for sea, passage and pilotage making, skippering (meteorology, rules ofg the road)), navigation at planing speed, night cruising, and emergency situations. The Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence can only be issued after an exam, usually taken immediately after the course. If you are looking to take this exam, please let us know and we will arrange an examiner for you. The cost of this exam is payable directly to the RYA. To take this exam your must meet the following pre-requisites: 2 years relevant experience including night pilotage As a guide; 30 days at sea, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours in the past 10 years Hold a valid First Aid certificate Hold a GMDSS Short Range Certificate (SRC) or higher grade marine radio certificate Age 17 or over Power Courses Our powerboat training is currently delivered on an MCA coded 7.8m Ribcraft with a 200hp Suzuki four stroke outboard engine and an E-series Raymarine chart plotter. We maintain a 3:1 student to instructor ratio which allows our experienced RYA instructors to tailor courses to the various levels and needs on board and deliver at a manageable pace. Wednesday workshops are located at my home studio. You have a choice of working in acrylics and/or mixed media, soft pastels or linocut printing. I have a relaxed and informative approach to working with acrylics and mixed media and other techniques. I was a professional muralist for 11 years, specialising in trompe l'oeil (trick of the eye) techniques.  Although photo realism painting in acrylics was essential in creating a painting illusion, I have also worked more recently with impasto and mixed media using acrylics which is an enjoyable and liberating experience. I was a former member of the Association of Professional Muralists and have appeared on television and radio. I have a friendly dog called Phoebe! What's included in the price? About this Training Course There are various kinds of geophysical data available. They are separated into seismic and non-seismic (multi-physics) data. Non-seismic or multi-physics data (which includes gravity, magnetics, electrical, electromagnetics, spectral etc - apart from providing complimentary information to seismic) is the main source of information for very shallow subsurface applications such as engineering, mapping pollution, archaeology, geothermal energy, and related areas. This 5 full-day blended course will focus specifically on seismic data which is the main method used in the Oil & Gas industry. In this blended course, participants will be equipped to understand that seismic data represents the movement of the surface, resulting from waves generated by a source, dynamite or vibrator which are reflected by changes in the subsurface rocks. The basic principles of acquisition and processing will be explained and insights into advanced methods, allowing a much more accurate interpretation of seismic data than previously considered possible, will also be provided. This blended course contains an introduction to Machine Learning and its important role in all aspects of seismic acquisition, processing, and interpretation. There is no need to know in detail how the algorithms work internally but it is necessary to know how to use them correctly to achieve optimum results. Training Objectives By attending this course, participants will be able to acquire the following: Obtain an understanding of the strengths and limitations of geophysical methods, specifically seismic, and the costs and risks involved, and how to reduce these. Be able to communicate more effectively with staff in other disciplines. But it may be of interest to those who want to know about the recent progress made in geophysics, leading to amazing imaging results, which could not be imagined a decade ago. The blended course will bring to the attention of the geologists, petrophysicists and reservoir/petroleum engineers an awareness of how the data they will work with is acquired and processed by the geophysicist. It will introduce the concepts that are of importance in geophysics and thus relevant for non-geophysicists to know and be able to communicate with geophysicists as well as formulate their requests. Course Level Intermediate Trainer Your expert course leader has degree in Geology (University of Leiden), a Master's degree in Theoretical Geophysics (University of Utrecht) and a PhD in Utrecht on 'Full wave theory and the structure of the lower mantle'. This involved forward modelling of P- and S-waves diffracted around the core-mantle boundary and comparison of the frequency-dependent attenuation of the signal with those obtained from major earthquakes observed at long offsets in the 'shadow zone' of the core. These observations were then translated into rock properties of the D' transition zone. After his PhD, he joined Shell Research in The Netherlands to develop methods to predict lithology and pore-fluid based on seismic, petrophysical and geological data. He subsequently worked for Shell in London to interpret seismic data from the Central North Sea Graben. As part of the Quantitative Interpretation assignment, he was also actively involved in managing, processing and interpreting Offshore Seismic Profiling experiments. After his return to The Netherlands, he headed a team for the development of 3D interpretation methods using multi-attribute statistical and pattern recognition analysis on workstations. After a period of Quality Assurance of 'Contractor' software for seismic processing, he became responsible for Geophysics in the Shell Learning Centre. During that period, he was also a part-time professor in Applied Geophysics at the University of Utrecht. From 2001 to 2005, he worked on the development of Potential Field Methods (Gravity, Magnetics) for detecting oil and gas. Finally, he became a champion on the use of EM methods and became involved in designing acquisition, processing and interpretation methods for Marine Controlled Source EM (CSEM) methods. After his retirement from Shell, he founded his own company, specialising in courses on acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data (seismic, gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic data), providing courses to International and National energy companies. In the last couple of years, he became keenly interested in the use of Machine Learning in Geophysics. Apart from incorporating 'Artificial Intelligence' in his courses, he also developed a dedicated Machine Learning course for geophysics. About this Training Course This five-day training course will cover aspects of FPSO operations with an emphasis on management of safety. A background of the methodology used to generate the various safety plans and codes used in the operational safety case will be covered. The course will also review general operational guidelines in the offshore environment to ensure that the operations are completed as designed. This will include offtake operations and maintenance processes for the plant and vessel as well as a session on subsea. Training Objectives To enable participants to obtain an in-depth understanding of FPSO operations, safety and maintenance: Provide a broad overview of how an FPSO operation is set up and established in the field Grasp the various methods used to moor the production units Analyse information and methods required to establish the operation according to local and international regulations. Assess the methods used to calculate the safety parameters and requirements to construct an approved valid safety case Explore conditions to monitor during operations with regards to safety and structure Inspect various types of hazards associated with production and produced materials Review regular and emergency operational maintenance requirements Examine cyclones and weather events causing disconnection Comprehend manning, training requirements and operations including cargo Case studies and Exercises: The training course uses real life examples and case studies to explain the setup, preparation, implementation and operational activities required to successfully complete FPSO operations from a safety and maintenance perspective. This will allow the application of participants' newly-acquired knowledge. Case studies also stimulate independent thinking and discussion among the participants. Case Studies The case studies proposed for this course will include: A group exercise to consider what is the minimum requirement for the production of a safety case Generic plan for the development of a maintenance management system using computer software systems (e.g. Amos) Construction of a UWILD plan to include scope and potential tendering requirements Quizzes The various quizzes can be expanded or arranged to suit the group/interests and topics covered but will generally include the following topics: Mooring types and location where they are primarily used Safety cases Safety management systems Process hazards and mitigation UWILD components and regulations Operations management Offtake operations Target Audience The course is generally aimed at personnel who are involved in FPSO operations as either offshore crew or onshore support team members. He has also been in charge of semisubmersible and fixed production platforms as field superintendent before moving ashore into senior management roles. On completion of industry specific activities, he moved to teaching roles at South Tyneside Maritime College in the department of marine and simulation and presented live courses to maritime students from cadet to Master.  Prior to returning to Perth in March 2019, he was training manager for a subsidiary of Gaz Transport and Technigaz of France. He has a Master Class 1 certificate with endorsements for hazardous cargoes and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration as well as multiple course certificates required to operate FPSO's, platforms and semisubmersible facilities. He has been involved in the preparation of national standards for Safety Cases (Australia); Designing and structural setup of competency-based training systems in South East Asia. He was also involved in the development of minimum standards, competency profiles position based and preparation and implementation of training plans to ensure competency in the local staff in Asian operations. He was part of the development team for minimum standards of offshore safety in Australian offshore operations including the implementation of the Common Safety Training Program (CSTP). He was also involved in implementing training plans for both simulator and classroom based courses in LNG operations and cargo tank design and construction.
