Alyssa Peterson is a Licensed School Psychologist and the sole owner of Phoenix Education Solutions, LLC, a private practice company founded on the sacred ground of social justice and resilience. Inspired by the unique needs of underrepresented populations in public school systems, Alyssa envisioned starting a business that expands her mission to advocate for equity in student achievement. From 2015-2018, Alyssa served the school communities of South Central Los Angeles with her whole heart. She observed the daily impact of the achievement gap and collaborated with stakeholders to improve school-wide support systems. To take her advocacy even further, Alyssa joined the 2018 Policy and Advocacy Team for a non-profit organization, Educators for Excellence. Her leadership in public policy reform is evidenced within a teacher-led policy paper designed with recommendations in the areas of instructional support, restorative justice, and social-emotional learning, as well as family engagement practices.

Once a grammar school, it became a community comprehensive school in 1968 and it continues to be true to the word ‘comprehensive’ some 50 years later. Having taught in many schools and as a member of the senior leadership team at previous schools too, I am immensely proud to be at the forefront of the everyday running of this ambitious school. I joined Malet Lambert in 2014 as a Deputy Headteacher, before becoming Head of School in 2016 and, therefore, I now know our pupils, staff and community well. From our thorough transition process in Year 6 through to the close mentoring and support for our pupils taking public examinations in Year 11, we put the needs of individual pupils at the heart of everything we do. At Malet Lambert, we pride ourselves upon having high aspirations. These will ensure that all of our pupils meet their potential by creating a safe, yet vibrant learning environment, which sees first class teaching and learning every single day. Situated in the heart of the community of Driffield, we are a unique and special place to learn. ‘Learning for Life’ is the foundation of all we do at Kings Mill and underpins our whole curriculum from Early Years through to Sixth form. The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 years. We are on two sites. The main school site houses Early Years through to Key Stage 4. The school was completed in May 2017 and has been purpose built to meet the needs of our pupils. Alongside eleven new classrooms we also have a new hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory therapy room and sensory rooms. Students aged 16-19 are based at The Kings Mill Student Centre which is based at Driffield Secondary School approximately a mile away from the main site. This comprises three classrooms and a combined common room and food technology area. There is also opportunity for joint working with Driffield School. Our sixth form students also visit main site to access the facilities as required. All our pupils and students have complex needs and we offer specialist provision for pupils on the autistic spectrum and pupils with multi-sensory needs. Our curriculum principles and ethos are supported by a wide range of activities which happen on and off site. Sport plays a very important role in the life of the school and we believe in encouraging healthy competition and leadership skills.
