Many visitors to Brecon walk to the Usk bridge from where they can photograph the Beacons. In the foreground is a group of buildings which are also worth the visitor’s attention. At the entrance to these buildings a board tells the visitor this is Christ College, founded by royal charter in 1541. That is only half the story of this site which has been occupied for over seven hundred and fifty years. The history of Christ College falls into three unequal periods. For three hundred years it was a Dominican friary; in 1541 Henry VIII established a school here and finally in 1855 the modern ‘public’ school was founded by Act of Parliament. The surviving buildings reflect each of the three periods. The Dominicans were friars who first came to Britain in 1221; they are first mentioned as being at Brecon in 1269. Given that range of dates and the evidence of the surviving medieval buildings, it is likely that the friary was founded c.1250.

Beyond the Classroom There are many opportunities for students to take part in extra curricular activities at Seven Kings. A large number of clubs and activities take place outside lesson times. Staff are committed to providing different opportunities to enrich the lives of Seven Kings' students. Subject based clubs, such as those in Art, Drama, Music, Science, Sport and Technology enhance the curriculum and many trips and visits support classroom learning. We offer a number of residential trips, to places like Paris, Spain, China, outdoor pursuits and a skiing trip to Austria. We love Leamington Spa in the UK, and we love being part of a fantastic church community that is really seeking to make a difference. The church has a rich history upon which we are building for future generations. The church building, formerly known as St. Michael’s, was built around 1900 and was the chapel to a girl’s reformatory school. During the 1930s, many families in Leamington Spa were becoming Christians, and so a Pentecostal movement bought the building, using it for regular church services. The church, now called Life Community Church, became part of a network of Pentecostal churches called the AoG (Assemblies of God), which is made up of around 600 churches in Great Britain, and is the sixth largest denomination worldwide. In 2012, there was a leadership transition and David and Leanne Bolton felt the call of God to lead the church and start an exciting journey of repurposing it. Their dream today, like those in the past, is to see many more families in Leamington Spa and across the globe, coming to faith in Jesus. Today, we are a growing, life-giving church for all ages and backgrounds, and God is drawing people to us from all nationalities. LCC exists to help people grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ. BARKING ABBEY SCHOOL IS A VERY LARGE SCHOOL ON TWO CAMPUSES IN EAST LONDON THAT SERVES THE BOROUGHS OF BARKING & DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE. We are a non-selective, comprehensive twelve form entry school with a proud tradition of academic and sporting success. The school is very popular in the local community for both Year 7 and sixth form admissions and is heavily oversubscribed. Barking Abbey School was founded in 1922 as one of the first co-educational grammar schools in England at the site in Longbridge Road. At the time, it was situated in a largely rural area, with fields and farmland close by. Gradually, as Barking began to expand as a residential centre, the school became the focal point for the community with an educational provision of national standing. In 1970, Barking Abbey Grammar School was merged with Park Modern School to form the Barking Abbey School we know today. Many traditions of the old schools remain, but with important developments to enable the school and its pupils to be fully prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of life in the twenty-first century. One thing remains central, however: we are an outstanding success. Barking Abbey school has a very large Sixth Form with approximately 450 students. As a result of this we are able to offer a large range of courses to our 16-19 year olds. We are proud of the fact that we are a multi-cultural community and we seek to celebrate our diversity in as many ways as possible.
