Basis Yorkshire was set up (as Genesis Leeds) in 1989 by a few volunteers, supporting sexworkers in Leeds. In 1997, a young person’s service was established to accommodate the specific needs of girls and young women who were being sexually exploited. In 2018, Basis Boys was established to accommodate boys and young men that are being exploited, sexually or otherwise. The charity also provides high quality training and awareness raising sessions locally and nationally on social justice issues and practice development. POSITION STATEMENT – WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO Basis supports indoor and street sex workers who identify as women, and young people who are sexually exploited. Our purpose is to empower people to make safer and healthier choices by offering information, support and options. Our work is driven by a sound evidence base, as well as working closely with women and young people to ensure our services are designed and delivered with them, putting their voices and experience at the centre of our work. We challenge stigma and inequality of access to services for everyone we work with. We are proud to be one of a small number of specialist organisations that explicitly recognise and advocate for women’s right to work more safely when selling sex, while also supporting young people who are sexually exploited to be safer and free from harm. We understand that for some women and young people, their ‘choices’ are severely constrained by a range of factors including physical and mental health, substance use, family circumstances and abusive relationships, as we support them in managing the risks and vulnerabilities they face. We recognise people’s dignity and agency in their decision-making.

Community Youth London (CYL) is an independent music and media charity which manages a variety of community-based services and initiatives, the majority of which are youth-oriented and led. CYL has developed many approaches with the aim of overcoming barriers to access so-called ‘hard to reach’ groups using targeted youth support programmes, marketing campaigns, outreach and alternative activities. These expertise’s have been successfully applied to our services and proven effective in attracting young people who have traditionally shied away from other initiatives. Through our work with celebrities, popular artists and respected community figures, we have gained the trust of young people in many disadvantaged areas. As an alternative measure to historical behaviour orders and restorative justice programs, CYL has delivered a range of one to one plus group programs that have been proven to not only help young people leave but also to stay away from a life of crime. Our charity became operational in January 2007 and quickly gained a positive reputation for our targeted work with young people, our approach to diversity and our innovative services. Since inception, CYL has grown from a vision to a reputable charity with an impressive track record and a growing database of over 47,000+ young people who work in London and the UK. It is committed to creating peaceful solutions to the problems of survival at the local, national and global levels. Created in 1998 on the initiative of His Hon George Dobry CBE QC to fulfil a growing need for support, advice and training to young lawyers from countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the Foundation was named after Lord Slynn of Hadley, formerly the British judge at the European Court of Justice and then a law lord, in recognition of his contribution to the development of the principles and practice of European Law in its broadest sense. Between 1999 and 2004, under the leadership of Lord Slynn, the Foundation organised two-day or three-day workshops, mainly in the ten states which were to join the European Union in 2004. These workshops were mostly concerned with EU law and practice, but some of them touched on human rights law. There were also mutual exchange visits, funded by the former British Association for Central and Eastern Europe, between senior judges and senior court administrators in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria and their counterparts in this country. In addition the Foundation organised a prestigious annual lecture on a Europe-related topic, and brought one young lawyer each year to London for nine months for a mix of experience gained from attending academic lectures, working in City solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers and meeting senior members of the judiciary. Because public funding for these activities dried up after 2004 and the Foundation was unable to secure alternative sources of funds, its activities were steadily reduced between 2004 and 2009 (the year when Lord Slynn died).However since 2009, the Foundation has widened its purpose, and is steadily reasserting its influence as the principal exporter of British judicial know how to an international audience.

Forest School and Outdoor Learning in Hampshire and Berkshire. Muddy Puddle Club CIC offers Forest School Sessions in our woodlands in North Hampshire and Outdoor Learning classes and groups across both boroughs. We have been offering sessions in the area for the past 6 years. All of our sessions are run by trained and experienced practitioners to provide meaningful and regular opportunities to create emotional connections with nature. We also offer fully accredited and nationally recognised Forest School and Outdoor Learning training up to Level 3. We also work with schools and nurseries to enhance outdoor provision and learning. We can provide CPD sessions, grounds development and assist with planning for whole school outdoor learning programmes. At Muddy Puddle Club CIC we are committed to improving environmental and social justice and believe that Forest School offers a vehicle for change. We believe that all people from all groups and backgrounds deserve equal access to experiencing the benefits of nature connection and that money is often a barrier to this change. We have created a community fund that allows us to run support groups for marginalised groups, subsidised places on our long term programmes and affordable Forest School training for those from minority groups that would otherwise not be able to afford it. We believe that representation matters.
