Step into the world of handcrafted elegance with our Beginner On-Demand Silver Clay Enamel Jewellery Course, perfect for those new to creating colourful, torch-fired pieces. Led by an experienced tutor, this course offers comprehensive, step-by-step video tutorials that introduce you to the art of combining silver clay with vibrant enamels.

This is a full day intensive workshop which will teach you the processes involved in photo etching, including preparing the metal for etching, transferring the designs onto the metal using press and peel (P&P) paper and how to use specific etching solutions to cut the designs into the metal. This course will allow you to broaden your design process so that you can add some intricate textures to your copper and silver jewellery designs. You will be provided with a set amount of materials including copper sheet to practice the process and a 4cm by 4cm piece of silver sheet to create a silver textured pendant during your session. WHEN: Sunday 13th October 10-5pm WHERE:  Workshop 925 based at The Mayford Centre, just outside of Woking and very close to Guildford. Unit F9 The Mayford Centre, Mayford Green Woking, Surrey  GU22 0PP TUTOR: Krista Thomson WHAT DOES THE DAY INVOLVE? You will be etching the majority of the day, however if you would like to create a finished design, we can accommodate this, you can do some etching in the morning and create a design in the afternoon. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None, all abilities are welcomed. This course is a great introduction to etching for those who have a vast experience in jewellery making but have not yet tried this technique as well as beginners looking to create beautiful textural pieces of jewellery. He has polished and restored many famous silverware pieces including the Americas Cup; Davis Cup; Wimbledon Cup and the Premier League Cup and he has also advised the Tower of London Jewel House on the upkeep of their silver collections. He also judged the polishing section of Goldsmiths craft and design awards. Now a Master Polisher of over 50 years’ experience, originally working for the Crown Jewellers Asprey & Garrards and well-known society jeweller Theo Fennell. Many of the pieces polished are now seen in Palaces, Museums and the rich and famous across the world. Stephen is one the most respected jewellery & silver polishers and is currently is teaching polishing across Europe and is known affectionately as “The Gold polishing Guru”. He has polished and restored many famous silverware pieces including the Americas Cup; Cricket World cup, Wimbledon Cup, Dubai Gold Cup, Premier League Cup. He has also been privileged to work in the jewel house at the Tower of London restoring The Grand Punch bowl made in 1830 and used by the Royal family on many occasions. Also known for polishing the largest pure gold coins made by the Royal Mint the largest being the James Bond 7kg pure gold coin. He is a fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths (IPG) and their official ambassador and a Master of The Dutch Guild of Goldsmiths. He shares his trade skills by teaching nationally and internationally including at Goldsmiths Centre, School of Master Jeweller’s Birmingham and VanTol & Breet Academy (Netherlands), The School of Jewellery Dublin & The Design & Craft Irish Craft Council in Kilkenny, Vannilla Ink, Aka_bespoke Manchester, Sheila Fleet in Orkney, Patrick Mavros in Zimbabwe and Mauritius. Stephen is a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths’ and was granted the Freedom of the City of London in 1975. – BAG MAKING COURSE – LEATHER GOODS MAKING COURSE: MAKE A STITCHLESS LEATHER BAG – WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?This is one of our group leather goods making courses for beginners that we organise at our London studio.Using beautiful vegetable-tanned leather, basic leather tools and simple metal fittings, you will make a stitchless leather bag while learning five basic leather working techniques.You will customise your bag by choosing between two designs (see photo gallery) and selecting your preferred colours of leather and fittings.No sewing skills or experience is required!At the end of the course, you won’t just take home a beautiful bag made entirely by you but also an understanding of working with leather and essential leather tools.WHAT WILL I LEARN?During our leather goods making courses, you will always receive an introduction to:-Different leather types-Essential leather tools You will then learn these 5 basic leather working techniques:-Marking leather-Cutting leather-Folding leather-Punching leather-Burnishing leather In the second part of the course, you will apply the techniques learnt by hand-cutting and assembling your beautiful bag using screw studs. From cutting, shaping and texturing the silver, through to soldering and polishing. You will create each link and a T bar clasp. This is a fantastic project to help you learn or improve your soldering skills, and a great introduction to jewellery making. WHEN: Saturday 16th November 10-5pm WHERE:  Workshop 925 based at The Mayford Centre, just outside of Woking and very close to Guildford. In this intermediate setting class we are going to be looking into traditional techniques for channel setting stones into pre-cast silver rings. This attractive and popular setting style allows for you to learn more advanced setting techniques that will take your skills to a new level. We will discuss how to lay out the stones within the setting and discuss fine tolerances. You will then prepare your ring for setting before you begin drilling and opening the channel and finally set the stones in place. By the end of the day you will have the knowledge needed to apply these advanced techniques to your own designs. WHEN: Saturday 5th October 10-5pm WHERE:  Workshop 925 based at The Mayford Centre, just outside of Woking and very close to Guildford.
