Jazz, Soul and Funk live music jam

Musicality workshop featuring musician Malcolm Earle-Smith and dancer Simon Selmon. Using both Solo Jazz & Lindy Hop you will explore the music using rhythm, scatting and movement exercises to become more musical and creative in your dancing. With a mix of group exercises and one-to-one feedback, you'll have plenty of opportunities to dance and develop your skills to both recorded and live music.

(6-8yrs) Jazz and modern is perfect for the kids who just can't stop moving when One Direction and Beyonce come on the telly! Using a range of music from the latest pop songs to great musical theatre songs (old and new!) JazzPops offers a range of dance throughout the term with a dash of some musical games. We also sneak in some dance technique from the ISTD Modern Theatre Syllabus. But don't tell the children that, they are having too much fun! TRIAL BOOKINGS: Of course you are welcome to watch the trial class but following the trial, WhizzDancers are expected to be independent in the room. TERM BOOKINGS: You are welcome to watch the first class but following this your WhizzDancer will be expected to go in the class independently. You will be expected to provide full uniform. Details will be sent following. We have lots of opportunities ahead for your WhizzDancer including exams and shows. Won BBC Best Band with Badbone & Co, 2006. Trombonist of the Year, British Jazz Awards and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Awards, 2007. X2 nominated in the 2008 Parliamentary Jazz Awards: Musician of the Year and Jazz Education, winning the latter category. JazzYorkshire Award Best Band for his band Velocity Trio, 2012. British Trombone Society (BTS) Player of the year Award, 2013. Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, 2022. With over 40 years in the field, working across the UK and internationally. Colin is known for his passion for promoting the inclusion of all children in mainstream schools, and for his practical applied work around person-centred planning, restorative justice and in-depth problem-solving. His work has inspired a shift toward inclusive practices across the UK, as he brings both experience and innovative thinking to the world of education.  Colin says: ‘Instinctively from an early age I was against children being sent away to boarding schools and later to special schools and settings. (8-10yrs) Tap uses a different skill set to Ballet and Jazz as the emphasise is on creating rhythm and sound using footwork. Due to the nature of Tap, the physicality of the work is mainly focused on the legs, hips, knees and ankles and of course those tapping feet! Tap teaches a great sense of rhythm, timing and musical awareness.
