Born to Carry was born out of the need to bring together excellent trainers under one umbrella, providing a high standard of training while allowing individual interest and skills to flourish. Community – We provide support to our trainers and learning opportunities for each other. We pride ourselves on the provision of excellent Babywearing Peer Support courses and the friendly supportive network we have built (and continue to build) for our trainers and our Babywearing Peer Supporters. Accessibility – At Born to Carry we believe that everyone who wants to learn about carrying should have an opportunity to do so. All of our trainers and our coaches are able to adapt to meet individual needs. Inclusivity – Born to Carry continues to work towards better understanding of inclusivity in our industry and beyond. We are open to continuing to learn more and actively working on being the best we can be. Growth – We recognise that no one holds all the answers and strive to continue learning every day. We encourage further study and incorporating new understanding into our courses. Family – Born to Carry trainers and coaches put the needs of infants and their caregivers at the heart of all decisions we make. I have been working as a professional fitness coach in and around Nottingham for many years. In that time I have taught within the community and worked with a wide variety of people to enhance their health, fitness and wellbeing. My background is sport and fitness based having achieved a BSc (hons) Sport Science and Administration Degree. Since graduating I have taken on many coaching roles within the fitness industry to help develop and inspire those around me. I have run FitKid sessions for children as well as RSA Exercise To Music Courses for aspiring teachers, worked as a lecturer in local colleges and of course run fitness classes ranging from Circuits and Body Pump to Yoga and Step. I bring this vast experience to my current classes along with a passion to help people be the best they can be and have fun along the way. I have encouraged many people as they start on their fitness journey and motivated them to continue on their chosen path. I love my job, it’s great fun, always interesting and so rewarding… and that’s what I want for my participants. The Project is a strength and conditioning facility that aims to deliver a program which is inclusive and challenging for any ability. Helping people to become fitter, faster and stronger, with an emphasis on developing and educating you as a person. We don’t like routine at The Project, therefore no class will ever be the same, to us routine is the enemy! We use conditioning, weightlifting and bodyweight movements in a variety of ways to challenge every aspect of fitness. The Project’s program is designed to be differentiated for any ability therefore the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We differentiate loads, intensity and times! Elliot and Charlotte have been involved in the health and fitness industry collectively for over 25yrs! Having always been physically active themselves and enjoying helping other people to discover what works for them in the health and fitness space they opened the Project in October 2017. Elliot & Charlotte are passionate about treating everyone as an individual, understanding that not one fitness journey is the same. Everyone comes to the Project for different reasons and Elliot & Charlotte are committed to finding what works for you. You’ll find both Elliot & Charlotte not only coaching the classes on the gym floor but hitting the same workouts as you day in day out! They don’t expect you to do anything they wouldn’t expect of themselves.

Concern surrounding underachievement of young males was brought into sharp focus in 2007 by the independent REACH report. Sponsored by The Home Office, The Department for Communities and Local Government and The Department for Education and Families, the report explored the costs associated with the problems that can arise from a disadvantaged socio-economic background, in this case specifically for young black males. These costs are associated with over-representation in the Criminal Justice System and reduced gross earnings and taxes associated with educational underachievement. They are estimated at £808 million a year and could amount to £24 billion over the next 50 years if the underlying issues are not addressed. From a working-class background himself, Clive attributes his corporate career success to hard work and maintaining a positive attitude. A key finding of the REACH report was a lack of positive male role models, particularly black male role models, in the media and the lives of young men. Clive knows from experience that the socio-economic gap to success can be bridged – he has held a number of senior level HR positions, is a company director and was awarded an OBE in 2010 for his contributions to the REACH report and the workplace mediation industry. Thus his involvement in the REACH report, together with his own personal experience, has inspired the development of the Bridge Builders Mentoring Scheme.
