A relaxed and informal Blackwork Embroidery course in the lovely setting of a converted 18th Century cotton mill in Warwick Bridge, Carlisle. This course has been designed to guide the complete beginner or act as a refresher for those who may have dabbled in Blackwork embroidery in the past. We will cover the history, styles of Blackwork embroidery, threads and techniques.

This qualification is ideal for those already working, or preparing to work within industry wishing to become a First Aider in the workplace for the purposes of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. Topics within this qualification are regarded by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as being important in maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in the workplace. How long will it take me to achieve this qualification? This is a 1 credit qualification, with a guided learning hour’s value of 8 and it has a minimum contact time of 6 hours, which is typically delivered via a 1 day course. How is the qualification assessed? Learners must undertake a practical assessment of their competence along with a short open response knowledge assessment, where learners are required to provide a short response to a prescribed series of questions. What next? In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. I have trained dogs to fight crime with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and have interned with the Miami Dade Police Department K9 Unit. I have also been lucky enough to train Flyball with the wonderful Pam Martin and the Top Dog Flyball Team as well as be coached by the Canadian Flyball champions and world record holders, Team Spring Loaded Flyball.
