Do you love the look of multiple crochet motifs joined together but hate all the ends? Or maybe you don’t mind the ends but would prefer to save yarn and time? Then this course is for you! Learn the Japanese Continuous Method for Motifs. We will learn the ingenious method of making multiple motifs in sequence, with only 2 ends to sew in!
I have a couple of motifs, a two round square to learn the technique with (the blue fabric) and a three round block (the cream motif used in my cardigan). Once you’ve mastered the technique, it’s possible to apply it to almost any motif.

Skill level
Intermediate/Advanced: Important, students must be confident with basic crochet techniques such as dc(UK)/sc(US), tr(UK)/dc(US), slip stitching, chaining and counting stitches. If you have not crocheted anything in a while, make sure you re-familiarize yourself with these stitches, as we won’t have time for refreshing the basics.
All other techniques will be taught in class.

Intermediate students can use the technique to make a wrap, stole or blanket, i.e. a rectangular or square piece of fabric.

Advanced/Adventurous students can have a go at making a shrug or cardigan – please note there is not a pattern for this, only a “recipe” based on what I have already made so if you want to do this you will need to be happy with very minimal guidance as the course is fundamentally focusing on mastering the technique rather than making a garment.

Tools & Materials
To practice the technique, please bring some cotton DK yarn & a 3.5mm hook. A 4ply cotton with a 3mm hook will also work.
Yarns with a solid colour work best – variegated or multi-coloured yarns can detract from the motif and make reading the stitches tricky.
For making a stole, wrap or other garment, I recommend 4ply yarn.
For making a blanket, you can use DK & a 4mm hook.

What kind of yarn?
As usual, natural fibres are going to work best. Cottons, merinos, wool and blends thereof. Something that feels good next to the skin. Sock yarn would work well.

How much yarn will I need?
Ah yes! This is always the important question but difficult to answer when we don’t yet know what we’re making or how big we are making something. I can give you a very rough guide but be prepared to adjust once you’ve decided on your main project.
