Join artist Julie Galante for this online workshop in which you’ll make paper collages out of recycled and reused materials. Collage is a way of creating a visual work of art by combining different elements - be they found images, patterns, bits of text, textured papers - in new and sometimes unexpected ways. This workshop, which will be delivered via Zoom, is suitable for absolute beginners - no previous experience with collage required! Julie will provide step-by-step demonstrations and guide you through making your own series of collage faces. To prepare for the workshop, you’ll start collecting various bits of paper that you come across in your daily life. This can include newspapers and magazines, flyers, advertisements, packaging, photos, gift wrap, instruction sheets, pretty much anything! One of the things we love about collage is repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in the recycling bin. In the workshop, you'll arrange and combine these collected items to create unique pieces of art.

Together we’ll explore ways to create work that reflects your individual interests, passion, and point of view, no matter your experience level. The course content is delivered over six live Zoom sessions, in a small, welcoming group with plenty of opportunities for interaction. Additionally, there will be optional (but highly recommended) assignments to complete in between the live sessions - assignments designed to get you stuck in to your creative practice in new and interesting ways. During each live session, there will be a demonstration focusing on a particular aspect of visual art - this will include various materials, subjects, and considerations such as composition, theme, mark-making, layering, and so on. We will also have a look at everyone’s recent creations, with celebration of the triumphs and suggestions for moving forward with work-in-progress. Together we’ll explore techniques including drawing, painting, mixed-media, and collage, but you don’t have to work exclusively in these media to take part - all creative disciplines are welcome. Each participant will be encouraged to deepen their explorations in whatever direction interests them most - be it a series of drawings, written reflections, sketches, collages, photographs, mixed-media pieces, or a unique, personal combination of all these. There will be an optional Facebook group for participants to stay connected and share their creations with each other between sessions. There will also be discounts available for other workshops and one-to-one mentoring.

In this class, you will focus on bringing farm animals to life when tackling the subject of dairy cows. Don't worry if you're a beginner, Marilyn will guide you through using a combination of mixed-media, including collage and watercolour, to achieve an impressive painting. Sketchbooks are for more than just sketching! In this series of workshops, we’ll explore ways of using a sketchbook to experiment, research, and develop your own creative ideas, leading you towards developing your own unique body of work. Incorporating drawing, painting, collage, writing, and crafting, this workshop will get you trying new things in a small, welcoming group all summer long. During the live Zoom sessions, we'll try out specific ways of using your sketchbook to develop creative ideas. You'll also have a chance to share what you've been working on, and be inspired by the work of others (sharing is encouraged but always completely optional). In between live sessions, we’ll fill our sketchbooks up with writing and images prompted by a series of creative assignments which will have us out exploring the natural and built environment (although many of them can also be completed from the comfort of home). Each participant will be encouraged to deepen their explorations in whatever direction interests them most - be it a series of written reflections, sketches, collages, photographs, mixed-media pieces, or a unique, personal combination of all these. This small-group course includes six live sessions (via Zoom) with Julie, and ‘homework assignments’ for participants to complete in between live sessions. There will be an optional Facebook group for participants to stay connected and share their creations with each other between sessions. You are welcome to join in from any place in the world. The group will be kept small to ensure plenty of opportunities for interaction, sharing, and feedback.
