I never tire of seeing the happiness that creating art brings and I believe that art is for everyone. Established in 2010 by Goldsmith Ian Nicholson [http://www.thisisian.com/] and located in Edinburgh’s creative space Out of the Blue [http://www.outoftheblue.org.uk/], the Precious Metals Workshop (PMW) is Edinburgh’s leading independent workshop for goldsmiths, silversmiths, jewellers and hobbyists. We run courses [https://www.preciousmetalsworkshop.com/courses] for all levels of skills and provide access to a large range of tools and facilities necessary to create jewellery. We are a safe space for creative minds, home to a family of makers [https://www.preciousmetalsworkshop.com/jewellers] who share their knowledge and skills while inspiring each other and benefiting from an artisan vibe within the workshop. We operate several programs based on helping people start their own jewellery careers, providing a free bench and facilities access as well as weekly business mentoring. There is continued exploitation in the mining of metals and gems and we are proud to support two third-world women’s mining groups. The Precious Metals Workshop is a community of makers, where we share our knowledge, skills and inspire each other as creative individuals. We provide a range of specialised equipment including soldering stations suitable for casting, pickling tanks, wheel and barrel polishers, ultrasonic tank, bubble etching tanks for copper and silver, fly press, ring stretchers, stone setting tools, heavy duty vices, bench drills, hammering stumps, silversmithing hammers, draw bench and plates, metal guillotine, rolling mill, large and small kilns. We have an extensive collection of resource books on techniques and practices to support both our emerging and established makers.

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is a centre of spaces, facilities and opportunities for making, learning and research.We support artists in many different ways, providing subsidised studios, open access to affordable workspaces and specialist facilities as well as training and professional development. We commission new work, provide funding through a year-round programme of residencies and employ artists across all areas of activity. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is open to anyone interested in learning about or making sculpture. Our purpose-built spaces provide a unique environment and we regularly host organisations and community groups who want to make use of our facilities for their own programmes. For individuals or groups wanting to develop skills and knowledge our learning programme includes courses, tailored workshops and skills training. A free public programme of talks, exhibitions and tours provide other ways to get involved and meet artists.

Maria Falconer is a professional photographer and part time lecturer in Photography at De Montfort University.  She also runs online and live workshops with her partner Paul Hill in the UK and Europe. She holds an MA in Photography, is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and has exhibited in the UK, France, Belgium, Ireland, South East Asia and the US. Kaisa is a self-taught mixed media artist based in Edinburgh. She will will be there to guide you on the evening and demonstrate how to use different tools and techniques. You can then use these skills and tools to create your own unique piece of artwork.  The tools include the usual brushes, as well as fun items such as pallette knives, monoprinting techniques, wax pastels… And other things you’ve probably never tried before in painting, such as wall paper scrapers, cooking spatulas and squeeges. A fun night in good company guaranteed.
