Join our Christmas wreath workshop, where you&#39;ll learn how to make macram&eacute; tree decorations and create a beautiful wreath to decorate your home. And we&#39;ll be including a complimentary tipple: a glass of mulled wine, or pot of Shibui mulled tea.In this three-hour workshop, you&#39;ll start by learning the basics of macram&eacute; and creating your own Christmas tree decorations. Using soft cotton or jute cord, we&#39;ll teach you how to tie knots to make unique and beautiful ornaments. Get into the holiday spirit at our Christmas wreath workshop with local artist and sculptor Lucy Wayman! 

Join us for a fun and festive DIY Christmas crafts experience where you'll create a beautiful wreath for your home, all while enjoying a complimentary drink of mulled wine or Shibui mulled tea.
In this 4 hour beginner-friendly workshop, you'll start with the basics of macramé, using soft cotton or jute cord to tie knots and craft unique macramé tree ornaments in various colors and patterns. 
After making your tree decorations, you'll use the macramé techniques learned to create a stunning, personalised wreath on a metal hoop. Feel free to bring any trinkets, beads, or ribbons from home to incorporate into your design.
No prior experience is needed; our expert instructor will guide you through each step in this hands-on workshop, and answer your questions. 
By the end of the session, you'll take home a gorgeous wreath and festive decorations to enjoy for years to come, all while connecting with fellow crafters in this creative holiday activities event!

On this festive-themed lino printing workshop with artist Suzanne Kemplay, you will explore ways of creating simple, striking images suitable for printing onto your own greeting cards, gift tags, wrapping paper and gifts.

On this festive-themed lino printing workshop with artist Suzanne Kemplay, you will explore ways of creating simple, striking images suitable for printing onto your own greeting cards, gift tags, wrapping paper and gifts.
This is a hands-on, practical and fun workshop where you will learn the basic skills and gain the confidence you need to create beautiful printed products at home without the need for expensive equipment. 
You will learn how to create a suitable design, practice cutting it out of lino, and select some products to print onto. You will take home your original lino design to use at home, a range of festive products you select for printing - such as greeting cards, gift tags ready to personalise, or gift wrap - plus a framed print of your original design to hang at home, or to give as a unique gift.

If you have ever wanted to explore sketchbook journalling, this exclusive new workshop with the Edinburgh Sketcher is the perfect place to start.
On this 3.5 hour workshop, artist Mark Kirkham - known locally as the Edinburgh Sketcher - will show you how to capture what you see quickly and lift your sketches off the page using a little watercolour, and share why sketchbook journalling has become such an important part of his day-to-day life.
You will explore how words can be used as decoration, and add depth to your drawing. 
Sketching items from still life, you will learn how to choose what to include; and how to link your sketches together using colour and composition. 
Starting with a new sketchbook, Mark will help you overcome any fears you have of facing the blank page, and build your confidence with mark making. 
Using the tips and techniques you learn on the day, you will leave ready to continue your sketchbook journalling at home.
This workshop will be held indoors in our welcoming and supportive environment in Edinburgh's City Centre New Town.

Watercolour for relaxation

In this intermediate level screen printing workshop with artist and printmaker Lou Davis, you will learn to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens using the photo emulsion method.You&rsquo;ll create a design for screen printing,&nbsp;transfer your design to a screen and print it onto printmaking paper. We&rsquo;ll cover&nbsp;how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. For this full day workshop, we&rsquo;ll create multi-coloured prints with two or more layers. You&rsquo;ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.It&rsquo;s a good idea to think about what you&rsquo;d like to print before the workshop. Please bring some ideas for artwork with you, which we&rsquo;ll draw by hand onto tracing paper during the first part of the workshop. Learn how to coat, expose, print and clean silk screens using the photo emulsion method in this full day screen printing workshop with artist and printmaker Lou Davis.
You’ll create a design for screen printing, transfer your design to a screen and print it onto printmaking paper. We’ll cover how to register your prints so they print in the same place every time. For this full day workshop, we’ll create multi-coloured prints with two or more layers. You’ll make an edition of up to ten prints and choose your favourite to frame, ready for your wall or to give as a gift.
It’s a good idea to think about what you’d like to print before the workshop. Please bring some ideas for artwork with you, which we’ll draw by hand onto tracing paper during the first part of the workshop. We will have inspiration on hand if you’re stuck!
It is possible to print from digital images but these must be prepared before the workshop, so if you’d like to take up this option, please contact us at least 7 days beforehand so we can properly advise you on what will print well. We will then print your ready prepared images onto screen printing acetate ready for the workshop. Digital images need to be printed in black so photos and line drawings can work well, but faint lines and subtle textures don’t transfer well. If you are sourcing imagery from the internet, please ensure you have the necessary rights to use it.

The Arienas Collective workshops, courses and events are run from a welcoming and supportive environment within a Georgian mews home in Edinburgh’s City Centre New Town. We invite you to join us, leave any day-to-day worries behind and immerse yourself in being creative.
Spaces on our workshops and courses are limited so that our creative team of artists and makers can offer you the hands-on help and support you need to make the most of your time with us. 
Our taster and introductory workshops focus on teaching creative skills and methods you can continue practising at home, using affordable materials and equipment. Where more expensive equipment is required we will mention this in the workshop description.

The workshop space is in our open plan living space and is not nut free. Please let us know about any skin or food allergies before booking. We offer a dairy-free milk and gluten free snack alternative.
Minimum number no refund policy
To ensure we can always pay our creatives a fair fee, we require a minimum number of bookings for each workshop and for this reason bookings are non-refundable. Should we have to cancel due to low numbers, we will offer you the option to swap to an alternative date or workshop, or to request a refund.
We do our very best to avoid cancellations. Since we often get late bookings, we keep our workshops on sale for as long as possible. We realise that some of you travel from afar, so if you book a space and have not yet received an email confirming your workshop is going ahead and need to make plans for your trip, please get in touch before booking any travel or accommodation so we can update you on booking numbers. The course consists of illustrated step-by-step directions, flow charts, diagrams, videos and a short test yourself section fully compatible with all computers and mobile devices.
You will be able to stop and start as often as you like and on completion you will be able to print your certificate. It is impossible to cover all eventualities within this course, or to equip you with the knowledge and skills to appropriately diagnose and treat in unpredictable real life situations.
