Basic Life Support Workshop: What will you learn? You have two options: 2-hour workshop — The all-important basics 3-hour workshop — Includes how to use a defibrillator, how to treat someone who’s choking and advice about calling 999 With both options there will be practical demonstrations, role playing and some activities to keep things engaging and interesting. I’m happy to tailor the content. If you’d like me to cover something that isn’t listed below, just ask. During the course, you’ll be trying out your newly-learned techniques with a whole range of equipment, including mannequins. And… this course includes the CPD-accredited Bra Off, Defib On. During this two-day workshop, you will learn how to tell a compelling story via photographs. Participants will gain the tools for conceiving of and crafting their own projects, with pointers on how to find ideas, develop your vision, and self-edit. We will cover a broad range of themes, including subject interaction, ethical dimensions, natural light usage and composition. There will also be practical guidance on financing projects, and where to place finished work.Between the two sessions there will be an assignment, intended to provide a practical application of newly acquired skills – this will be reviewed in our second meeting.This workshop is perfect for those with a good understanding of digital photography, seeking to hone their storytelling abilities and push the boundaries of documentary photography.Day 1:– Introduction to photographic storytelling.– Case study of Michael’s work in relation to the practicalities involved with funding, organising and producing a documentary project.– Discussion on the work of inspirational photographers, film makers, and artists.– Consideration of the ethical challenges encountered when producing documentary photography.– Introduction of practical task, and review of images.There will be a practical assignment to be carried out before the 2nd session.Day 2:– Photo story workshop and discussion on style.– Editing: how to select the right pictures to suit narrative objectives.– How to work within time constraints.– Practical task– Portfolio review of work produced during the workshop.– Presentation on opportunities, competitions, and publishing documentary photography projects.   Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. A two-day Immunisation Training Course for Healthcare Support Workers/Healthcare Assistants (HCSWs/HCAs).

A half day course that looks at the implications of the recent NICE guideline changes to the management of hypertension. The course gives a brief introduction to the pathophysiology of hypertension and the ways in which it is investigated and treated.

I've added this two day workshop because a one day workshop gives you the basics, but two days will allow you to develop your carving technique and use additional knife grasps.  By embedding good technique into the way you carve, you will avoid injuries and additional regular stretching will help you to look after your body. You will leave with the knowledge and confidence to carve safely at home.  You will have access to a range of different tools, starting with the axe to rough out spoon blanks - I have a good range of axes you can try from budget to the Gransfors large carving axe. Next using the Mora wood carving knives (105/106/120) to shape your blanks into spoons following traditional designs for optimising strength and utility. I also have a range of hook knives to try out. Using these traditional tools you will make a spoon from local and sustainable fresh cut green wood (usually willow/birch/alder or cherry) - starting with a log and leaving with a spoon. From the initial splitting of the log, trimming it down with an axe, to carving finer details and decorations with chip carving knives. This course is located close to central Edinburgh and is accessible by public transport.  Depending on the weather it can be inside or outdoors in the wildlife garden. This course will equip non-registrants to allocate patients safely into face to face or telephone appointments, with an appropriate practitioner or service. The course will also equip non-registered staff to question for, recognise and allocate patients with urgent health needs.

This course will enable registered Nurses, Midwives and AHPs to effectively supervise pre-registration students in clinical placement.
