Learn the skills of a Crime Scene Investigator ... Explore the exciting world of the Forensic Investigator in this unforgettable interactive experience day. You will spend the day using real forensic methods and techniques to perform a range of established crime scene investigations. All investigations that you perform are "hands-on", giving you the opportunity to learn how these procedures work in real life. Your day will include: DRUG TESTING: Perform a drugs test! The suspect was carrying a small plastic bag of a white substance when arrested. He was known to police as a cocaine dealer. Was he carrying cocaine? Carry out chemical tests to establish if the white powder was cocaine? FINGERPRINTING: Learn how to lift and record fingerprints using the conventional dusting process to detect and preserve fingerprints. MICROSCOPY: Use a light microscope to forensically examine crime scene samples. Discover how to use different magnifying powers to optimise the results. FABRIC SAMPLE ANALYSIS: Compare samples collected at the crime scene and on the suspect to identify human hairs. SOIL ANALYSIS: Analyse soil samples collected from the crime scene and compare against soil recovered from the suspect's shoes. Identify which soil sample is common between both crime scene and suspect. Use chemical tests to confirm your results. TOOL MARK IDENTIFICATION: You have a known tool impression from the crime scene. Use forensic casting techniques to create clay impressions and compare with a range of tools recovered from the suspect's tool shed. Which tool did he use? BLOOD DETECTION: Blood-like stains were found at the crime scene. Before sending samples to the forensic lab we need to establish if they are blood samples. Use established forensic tests and procedures to identify blood spots and stains that may not be visible to the naked eye. DNA EXTRACTION: Perform an extraction procedure to extract DNA from samples provided. You will be able to see (and feel) actual DNA once you have completed the process! Description Crime Scene Investigation Diploma An immersive journey into the intricate and riveting world of crime scene analysis. This online course uniquely combines the principles of investigation with advanced forensic science techniques, preparing students to step confidently into a career in forensic investigation. The course begins with an 'Introduction to Crime Scene Investigation', establishing a solid foundation for students. It acquaints them with the basic tenets of the discipline, setting the scene for the more specialised topics that follow. In today's digital age, where capturing moments has become second nature, 'The Art of Crime Scene Photography' trains students to use photography in a way that aids investigative processes. This isn't just about taking pictures; it's about documenting evidence in a manner that stands up in the court of law. Effective 'Crime Scene Management and Preservation' is pivotal to ensure that evidence remains uncontaminated and retains its integrity. The Crime Scene Investigation Diploma stresses the importance of these aspects, imparting skills that ensure the scene remains as untouched as possible. From the crime scene, we transition to the laboratory. 'Forensic Pathology: Post-Mortem Examinations' provides insights into the crucial process of understanding the cause and manner of death. This unit sheds light on the world of autopsies, giving students a window into the inner workings of the human body in the aftermath of a crime. 'Bloodstain Pattern Analysis' and 'Forensic DNA Analysis' introduce learners to the world of molecular forensics. Blood, often found at crime scenes, can reveal a lot about the events that transpired. The course guides students through the methods of analysing blood patterns, using them to recreate the sequence of events. DNA, the very code of life, is another potent tool in the arsenal of the forensic investigator. This part of the Crime Scene Investigation Diploma deals with collecting, preserving, and analysing genetic material to tie suspects to crime scenes or exonerate the innocent. Our physical attributes, right down to our bones, can also tell stories long after we're gone. 'Forensic Anthropology and Osteology' covers the examination of skeletal remains, helping to determine the identity of a person and shed light on the circumstances of their demise. Every individual has unique fingerprints, making 'Fingerprinting and Latent Prints' an integral aspect of the investigative process. This section familiarises students with the techniques of collecting and analysing these prints, linking individuals conclusively to locations or objects. In our increasingly digital world, crimes often leave a trail in the virtual realm. 'Digital Forensics' equips learners with the tools and techniques to unearth electronic evidence, be it on personal devices, computers, or the vast expanse of the internet. Lastly, 'The Future of Crime Scene Investigation' rounds off the course, allowing students to look ahead. This industry, like all others, evolves. This segment prompts students to think about the changes, advancements, and emerging technologies that will shape the future of crime scene investigations.
