It is envisaged that by the end of this course of training the trainee operator will be able to answer questions on and perform the following:
Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the machine to be used and be familiar with other types of information sources and relevant legislation.
Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements and check all emergency lowering functions.
Safely mount and dismount the machine configure the machine for travel.
Configure the machine for travel and maneuver it safely on level/rough ground and inclines in open and confined areas.
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area, including overhead and underground hazards maneuver the machine to work the area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out accessing tasks at various points up to full operating height.
Travel with platform raised (where applicable)
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
Entry requirements 
In order to be eligible to undertake NPORS testing.
Good understanding of spoken and written English.

Assessment 
Assessment will be to NPORS standards consisting of a theory test and practical test. 
Certification
NPORS Traditional card – With the traditional card there is no requirements to complete an NVQ, a five-year card is issued and after five years reassessment is required. 
NPORS CSCS – To ensure that the operator can receive the NPORS CSCS logo card, candidates must have completed the relevant health and safety test within the last 2 years of the test date. This will issue a trained operator card. To gain a competent operator card the candidate will be required to complete an NVQ in the specific item of plant.

Course Summary

Using pre-recorded training, interactive on-line content (through Padlet), self-directed learning and live events, this substantial and comprehensive blended training course keeps delegates interested, engaged and learning new ways to bring excellence to their 24-hour postural care provision and focuses on the often neglected lying position and how unsupported lying drives changes to a person's body shape which impacts sitting, standing and functional movement. 

You will have access to the online learning from 23rd April 2025 and be provided with all the information you will need to complete the course. At 1pm (BST) on 23rd April you will then join the trainers for an introductory event via Zoom to provide an outline of the training and to answer any questions you may have. Over the next few weeks you can access the pre-recorded training videos and interactive online content to enable you to complete the workbook. On 4th June 2025 there will be a series of live discussion events for the specific ages the course covers to assess your learning (you must attend at least one of these events - please see below for further information). 

Why? 
People with complex needs, deserve a thorough, co-ordinated 24-hour postural care service. We only get one body and yet people with complex disabilities don't always get the 'annual service' afforded the equipment they use.
Posture Positive report (2020) found training is a key aspect to developing resilient and robust 24-hour postural care for people with complex needs. Every person with complex needs or limited movement requires a comprehensive 24-hour postural care service delivered in a personalised way. 

Who? 
The course is suitable for specialist physiotherapists, specialist occupational therapists and other highly trained healthcare professionals working in health, SEN and social care. 
The course breaks down the life span of a person as follows:
0-3 years
Children and young people in education
Adults
Older people and palliative care

Each delegate selects the aspects of the course relevant to their particular area of practice whilst having access to all the course resources.

On completion of the course, it is hoped delegates will be equipped with the knowledge needed to deliver an outstanding, person-centred, 24-hour postural care service.

Anyone who wants to learn new skills can join our programmes. No previous experience of papercrafting or mixed media work is needed. We have delivered courses successfully in Cambridgeshire for 6 1/2 years and have worked with 280 Cambridges residents during this time. 86% of participants state that what we offer has helped to improve their wellbeing. 75% state that it has made a positive difference to their daily lives. 
Please note that the banner/photo shows crafted items that we have made during this course at different times. The items made in this course are similar. The Cademy calenda/description states that this course is over 14 weeks. This is because the 10 weeks of the course are delivered over 13 weeks, during 3 of which, Craft4Smiles is closed for holidays!

Craft4Smiles C.I.C. 

A standalone 10 week/session course that will introduce you to the basic materials, tools, equipment and techniques used in paper crafting and mixed media work and to Craft4Smiles C.I.C and our tutors.  You will be sent all the materials and equipment needed to complete the course. At the end of each lesson you will have a crafted item to take away to keep or show family and friends. You will be told about the other courses you offer so that you can make an informed choice about further learning.
