Information about The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disabilities & Autism The training is named after Oliver McGowan. Oliver was a young man whose death at the age of 18, shone a light on the need for health and social care colleagues to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and people with a learning disability. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government’s preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff and is enshrined in law in the Health & Care Act 2022. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is co-delivered with a Facilitator and co-trainers with lived experience of learning disability and autism. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training is a standardised package that is delivered by trained and approved trainers. The consistent content and delivery means it is transferable between employers. Content may trigger difficult and upsetting feelings. Please note that for this course to run there is a minimum of 3 trainees to attend; if this is not met by the day before the course it may not go ahead and you will need to reschedule.

With a strong family history in the clothing industry, right back to my great great grandfather, Johannes, shown on the right (a tailor to Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, no less!) I am an internationally experienced merchant. I have worked in Retail and Wholesale for internationally recognised brands such as Levi Strauss, Timberland, Tommy Hilfiger, Barbour and Ellesse. I started out at the age of 18 as a trainee buyer for a European Clothing Wholesaler, Campari International Plc, where I was mentored by the managing director and my father John, in all aspects of design, product development, sampling, sourcing, buying, brand franchises and major account selling. This led to the opportunity of travelling the world extensively around Europe, the Far East and the United States, providing me with a rich understanding of different cultures and the ways of doing business on the international stage. From there I went on to live and work in Germany, then back to the UK where I set up a designer fashion store business with a good friend in Clapham, South London. I then proceeded to work for Timberland EMEA out of their UK EHQ; I consulted for the Pentland Group (with the Ellesse brand); then to Levi Strauss Europe as Design & Merchandise Director for Dockers EMEA; next to Simonside, near Newcastle to consult on the J Barbour & Sons clothing brand; before moving overseas once again to work as Senior Merchandise Director Menswear for Tommy Hilfiger Europe, in Amsterdam. On returning home once more, I then began working on small consulting projects. That led me to become, a creative industry focussed business adviser initially, with LSBC, as part of a London based business advisory team. From my experience/background, I have developed strong business insights and an entrepreneurial approach to developing business strategies, as I work with both new and established businesses. These businesses include fashion creatives, artists, service industry professionals and a multitude of on-line and off-line line enterprises in the food & beverage, tech, furniture, beauty, travel, sports and well-being sectors. In assisting in the process of setting up a business by developing business plans; financial projections; product management strategies and gaining access to business funding, I have developed a broad skill set that is well appreciated by those who work/have worked with me (please check out my client testimonials). I now also work as a proud Partner of the British Library where I deliver quality and popular business planning and business development workshops. I have also worked on the Reset Restart programme started as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold. I also work as a mentor on programmes such as the UK government’s HELP TO GROW Programme, operating as a consultant engaged by Brunel University London.

Mentoring & advice We understand that making decisions about education and careers can be difficult and stressful. That’s why we’re always happy to offer students advice– especially those studying GCSE and A-Levels — to help them navigate subject and career options. Bespoke syllabus Like private schools, we have dedicated Subject Coordinators building our bespoke syllabus (fully aligned to the National Curriculum and major exam boards like AQA, OCR and Edexcel). This central control allows us to plan lessons for the entire year and cover everything students need to learn for exams. Assessment every 6 weeks After 5 weeks of learning a particular set of topics, students are tested on week 6 to assess how much they’ve learnt. The results show us where the student is successful, but also gives us an idea of where there is room for improvement so that we can reinforce those topics. Homework for every lesson Every student receives approximately 30 minutes worth of homework for each hour of tuition. We find it’s a good amount of work that will keep their brains stimulated outside of school & tuition, without being too stressful. Parent conferences Want regular updates about how your child is progressing? Every 12 weeks we organise a parent conference, allowing parents to catch up with tutors and ask any questions. Qualified & experienced tutors We only use UK qualified and experienced tutors that are either active/experienced school teachers, or industry professionals like trainee doctors, dentists and engineers that are currently working in their respective fields. Small classes Schools can overcrowd classrooms with 25-30 children at one go, making it difficult to give them individual attention. Our centre maintains an average of 6-8 students per class so that everyone gets the support they need to succeed.

Emily Harris, Teacher Emily (BA Hons) joined our team in 2017 and is packed with enthusiasm. Emily has been dancing from the tender age of 3 with experience in ballet and tap as well as the above mentioned styles and is keen to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with other dancers. Her degree in education and special needs is just another asset she brings to our academy, further enhancing our inclusivity policy. DBS checked annually and First Aid trained. Jordanne Wood, Teacher Jordanne has been dancing since she was 2 years old with experience in all theatre subjects including ballet, tap, theatre craft, modern jazz, acro gymnastics and cheerleading. She attended the Pattisons College of Performing Arts in Coventry. She soon went on to complete her IDTA professional qualifications and then went into teaching full time. She also has a young child of her own bringing her maternal instincts into class. Like many of our teachers, Jordanne is continuing to work through more IDTA dance qualifications whilst she is teaching with the aim of eventually becoming an IDTA examiner. Jordanne's current qualifications include associate with the IDTA in Freestyle, Ballet, Tap and Modern Jazz; BGU level 4 in Cheerleading. DBS checked and First Aid trained. Liam Pincher, Teacher Liam began his dance journey as a contemporary dancer, but slowly moved to street dance styles the more he learned about them.This took him to study an urban dance course in London, and even to study Urban Dance in America! Over the years, he has gained experience in a variety of street dance styles including hip hop, House, popping, locking, and breaking all whilst experiencing battle culture, performance opportunities and teaching. He's always very excited to have the opportunity to share everything he's learned with fellow dancers and has already made a positive impact on many of our students. DBS checked and First Aid trained. Emily Hunt, Teacher Emily started dancing at the age of three in Ballet, Tap and Jazz, gaining medals and performing in regular shows with her sister. Progressing through medals and competitions, Emily became a finalist in the 'British Amateur Junior Modern Sequence' at the age 14. Leaving the competition world behind she began studies for her Pre-Associate exam in 2010 where she won the 'Bill Tasker Award' before proceeding on to her Associate exams where she was nominated for the 'John Dilworth Award'. Emily has a 2:1 Ba Hons degree in 'Professional Dance Teaching' from Buckinghamshire New University as well as her IDTA professional awards. Her specialism is Classical Sequence but she is also an experienced Ballroom, Latin and Freestyle teacher. DBS checked and First Aid trained. Dance Coaches We are really lucky to have a group of amazing volunteers who assist with our classes. Aged only 12-18, these girls have a fabulous rapport with our other students and can be essential in making new members feel welcome and helping less experienced dancers with steps. They all undergo First Aid Training and have DBS checks at the appropriate age.
