We aspire to make a difference in the lives of thousands of women and families through our services and a part of our support focuses especially on BAME communities, so they can acquire the autonomy required to lead a productive and rewarding life and contribute to the development of their community. We know how important it is to keep a healthy mind to keep a healthy body. Studies have shown that minorities have more difficult access to mental health due to ethnic and cultural barriers such as religious beliefs, urban cultural legends, stereotypes and pre-judgment. From a global perspective, currently, women are considered the weak link in humanity and are often harassed or infantilised, while in reality, it is quite the opposite as women are the engine of this world. Without entering the feminism claimant, we want to support them, accompany them, and motivate them on the importance of their role so that they can fully take their place in this world and flourish. Our History arises from the experiences of our founders. Our Director Board is made of women from different stages of the community who have experienced the same challenges and difficulties as the women we are aiming to support. The board represents a multidisciplinary team that has travelled a lot, speaks several languages, and has mastered several cultures. We have carried out numerous humanitarian actions for 10 years around the world Asia, Africa, Europe, meetings with exceptional women and incredible life stories and success stories.

AT GIRLDREAMER, WE'RE MORE THAN JUST A NON-PROFIT. WE'RE A COLLECTIVE OF PASSIONATE PEOPLE CHAMPIONING A BRIGHTER, MORE EQUITABLE FUTURE FOR 18-35 YEAR OLD WOMEN OF COLOUR IN THE UK.  We’re on a quest to dismantle barriers and redraw the lines of opportunity for women of colour. We understand first-hand the unique challenges faced by our community, and we’re here to break down those barriers. We firmly believe women of colour are uniquely placed to drive social change. Sitting at the intersection of society, we have perspectives, lived experiences and an in-depth understanding of what needs to change and how it needs to change for the betterment of all. However, with a lack of access to opportunities, higher rates of discrimination, greater economic and social barriers, larger pay gaps, residing in underserved areas and having minimal representation in positions of leadership and influence – starting a journey of change can feel somewhat impossible.

WEST is a small charity with a big aim: to inspire girls and women to study and work in non-traditional trades and careers like engineering.Wendy Miller “I was the first full-time female student to study engineering at Sheffield College. After employment as a draughtsperson and engineering project manager, I have worked in education since 2004. I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! There is a world of opportunity out there for young women and we are missing a lot of talent.” Pat Morton (Chair) Pat Morton (Chair) “I spent 20 years in the construction industry as a surveyor and another 20 years in Higher Education working in equality – particularly gender equality – in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and built environment. When Ros Wall died we wanted to do something active to remember her. She was a real activist so we decided to set up WEST and support a cause dear to Ros’s heart.” Saj Parveen Saj Parveen “I undertook a foundation course in engineering at Sheffield College / Sheffield Hallam University, followed by a degree in engineering, and then a postgraduate certificate. I’m now a senior lecturer in mechanical design engineering. I love developing and inspiring the next generation of engineers and especially keen to see more women becoming engineers, which is why I got involved with WEST.”

MIAG has embraced capacity building approaches to enhance community development. Gulshen began her Krav journey after looking for an effective self defence system that would help protect her and her two children whilst out and about. With no martial arts or other training background she was looking for a system that would be simple to learn, but at the same time deliver real effective results on the street. As a 5’ 0” petite female she has been on the receiving end of numerous real life situations such as mugging, threats and a potential car jacking. However each time knowing the essential self defence skills and situational awareness techniques Krav Maga has taught her she has been able to get both herself and her children home safely
