Dr Aseri has been working as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine and Clinical Lead for Acute Pain Services at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since February 2016. He obtained a Certificate of Completion of Training [CCT] in Anaesthetics in August 2015 from Health Education North West. Dr Aseri has completed Advanced Pain Training (APT) at one of the well renowned tertiary pain centres, The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Liverpool and obtained a Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FFPMRCA). Dr Aseri regularly participate in service development projects and clinical effectiveness meetings throughout his career. He recognises audit as a clinical governance tool that can change practice and improve clinical performance. Dr Aseri is a course director for a national study day “Joint Management of Joint Pain” which is approved by Royal College of Anaesthetists for CPD. Throughout my career I have been involved with undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching both on a formal and an informal basis.

Already the commonest cause of loss of life under the age of 40 the burden of trauma is set to increase in the next 20 years. Taking a global view of 'life years lost' through premature death and disability, injury will be in 2nd place in 2020. A lot of the tragedies represented in these staggering statistics are preventable but in the UK, as elsewhere, there is also unnecessary mortality directly due to inadequacies in the organisation and delivery of care. In the 1980s, research in North America identified the causes of these failures and in 1988 a working party chaired by Professor Sir Miles Irving at the Royal College of Surgeons of England drew remarkably similar conclusions. The College recommended changes in trauma management which included: Enhancing pre-hospital care, ensuring appropriate medical intervention Rapid transfer to the best local facility Assessing the use of helicopters Adopting ATLS principles Integrating trauma services within and between hospitals Investing in rehabilitation services Auditing and Researching injury and systems of care

Having seen the benefits of first aid training, in giving individuals the knowledge and confidence to help in an emergency, I think it's important that as many of us as possible gain these skills. My career as a nurse in both hospitals and schools has given me both the knowledge and practical experience to deliver first aid training in a way that is effective, practical and fun. Career I have worked in busy hospital environments across many areas, including Accident and Emergency, Intensive Care, High Dependency and on a variety of wards. It's certainly been an interesting and challenging career, working alongside many dedicated and skilled colleagues. I started teaching first aid in a school setting, delivering courses to various staff members, from maintenance teams to headteachers. It was through this that I realised how important it was to make training practical and fun in order to engage trainees and build their confidence. Having a degree in psychology is highly useful when it comes to delivering our Mental Health First Aid courses. I am passionate about using my skills and knowledge to make first aid accessible to everyone, so that as individuals we can ‘make a difference’ when it matters most. I've recently completed my own Level 3, Ofqual regulated Community First Responder Course with the West Midlands Ambulance Service, and am now an active volunteer within my local community, delivering first line treatment for 999 'life threatening' calls, prior to the 'calvary' (paramedics) arriving. Its an amazing feeling to be giving something back to the community, and helping my neighbours where I live and in the surrounding villages.
