Date: Tuesday 12th December Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Noted documentarian Craig McCall will be joining us to show his documentary CAMERAMAN: The Life & Work of Jack Cardiff and to discuss the career of the legendary cinematographer, whose work includes some of the most acclaimed British films of the time (The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, A Matter of Life and Death). Craig is a dedicated film historian, and this event is open to anyone interested in cinematography, film history or British cinema. Craig McCall’s documentary CAMERAMAN: The Life & Work of Jack Cardiff premièred at Cannes and subsequently screened at over fifty film festivals and was sold worldwide. As an Executive Producer he has made other film related docs including Me & Me Dad on film director John Boorman which also premièred at Cannes, Natan on the pioneering French filmmaker Bernard Natan, Behind The Sword In The Stone on the making of ‘Excalibur’ and Leslie Howard: The Man Who Gave A Damn. All his films have been made independently outside the broadcast system.

In this bespoke bus tour, children and their grown-ups will board the MCC Tour Bus at Woodlands Youth Centre, before visiting Medway’s magnificent landmarks which pay tribute to some of the diverse history within the Medway Towns. There will be fun activities along the way and the chance to win prizes!  We request at least one parent/carer to accompany up to 3 children booked on to the tour, they will need to book a ticket too but adults will not be charged - it’s our treat! DATE: Friday 2nd February TIME: 4pm (meeting at school reception) BOOKING DEADLINE: Noon on 19th January On Friday 2nd February, we will have a school visit to the British Museum, the first of several extra-curricular trips we are looking to arrange in the coming terms. Whilst some of these trips will have a focus on Film & Television, others will be about other general interests, giving you a chance to get to know London and its rich cultural offerings. This trip to the British Museum will include a tour of various significant relics from across the world and human history, organised and led by Conrad, our Student Services Officer. Ideal for both first-timers and those that have been before and want to learn a bit more. We will meet in the School Reception at 3:50pm that day and then head over together at 4 o'clock. It is direct on the Northern Line and then a short walk to the museum. Once inside you are free to take the tour we have organised or explore on your own should you wish. Once the tour is complete people are welcome to stick around and explore more, have relaxed drinks in a nearby pub or head home, whatever you prefer. ONE TICKET PER PERSON, PLEASE DO NOT BOOK MORE THAN ONCE ONTO THIS EVENT. ONLY BOOK IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO MAKE IT, PLEASE LET US KNOW. This is a non – qualification course where learners will explore the world of music composition and sound recording for Film, TV & Games. Students will learn how to create, arrange and use music for a visual narrative exploring various genres including epic, horror, thriller, comedy and romance. Along side the music composed for a visual, the recording of sound (field & foley recordings) will be undertaken for the ‘onscreen’ SFX synchronisation. The use of Logic Pro X (DAW) as both a composition and synchronisation tool will be explored, as well as the use and techniques of microphones and field recording devices.  Day: Saturdays (6 weeks) Times: 10am - 3.30pm  Who is this course for?  Those that are interested in Sound and Music for visual media and have an interest in exploring composition and recording for TV, Film & Games. Students are not required to have previous knowledge of playing an instrument, using a DAW or recording with microphones but previous experience would be an advantage  What will I learn?  This will include course objectives. •Understand the history of media sound & music •Understand and use a DAW to compose music •Understand and use compositional techniques to support visual narrative. •Understand and use Microphones and techniques in the recording process •Understand sound design and synchronisation to support visual narrative. How will I learn? The aim of the course is to build an understanding of these specialist areas and use some of the techniques explored in a short visual clip of your choice. The work is completed within the sessions through recording and composition on the equipment and is supported by a vast amount of learning resources supplied by the tutor. Practicing composition and recording at home would also be an advantage if you have the equipment, but not a necessity.
