We endeavour to help our pupils to feel they matter and belong, enabling them to improve their social, emotional and academic skills to be the best that they can be. Also Tai Chi & Qigong Sunday mornings 10.30-11.30am Classes Saturday mornings, Wednesday evenings. Parents accompanying children train for FREE!! Saturday mornings, 9.30 -10.30am, St.Swithun's church hall, Waverly Road, Southsea - Parking available, car park accessed from Collingwood Road. Age 5+ Wednesday evenings 7-8pm Havelock Community Centre, Fawcett Road, Southsea. Upstairs Hall - ring buzzer for hall to be admitted. Age 16+ Sunday mornings 10.30-11.30am Havelock large room, Tai chi & Qigong. Yang Short Form, Chen Old Form and Qigong, exercises for balance, mobility and improved health All lessons are tailored to individual needs. Starting age for Wednesday classes is 16 (younger students will be accepted if they have prior experience). There is no upper limit! Shintai is a traditional Shotokan club, following a direct line from Hirokazu Kanazawa (who Sensei Tyrie trained and graded under). However, elements of Okinawan karate and Chinese martial arts, also get taught. We are not a Sports Karate class. Shintai is a martial art for health, self-defence, fitness and self-confidence. Competitive karate is taught, but it is not compulsory.

In 2014 the AGP Clinical Academy was established to further the development, implementation, dissemination and evaluation of AGP reporting systems for use in conjunction with continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technologies. Based in Portsmouth, UK, the AGP Clinical Academy is a collaborative organization associated with Portsmouth Hospitals (National Health Service Trust). Founded by Professor Roger Mazze, developer of AGP and Dr. Iain Cranston, an endocrinologist with extensive clinical experience with glucose sensing and insulin delivery technologies. Over the past four years, the Academy has prepared, tested and delivered a comprehensive core curriculum designed to acquaint clinicians and researchers with AGP use in care, research and education. The Academy has held introductory training programs in India, the Gulf Region, Australia, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, China, Singapore, India, Hong Kong, Brazil and South Africa along with sessions at the IDF, EASD and ATTD. In-depth training programs were held in the UK, Germany, Portsmouth and South Africa.

Lighthouse Medical is pleased to sponsor Lighthouse Educational Foundation. The charity’s aim is to provide funding for all types of Primary Care education and ultimately improve healthcare for the Island’s population. They work proactively to fund and organise education/courses that fill the gaps identified by structured training needs analysis. The charity was founded in 2010 and has already helped 1,857 Islanders to further their education, with general and specific training courses. From 2011-2018, the Foundation invested £184,794 in our local healthcare workers. This included supporting local GPs, GPwSIs, Practice Nurses, reception and admin staff. Courses funded so far have ranged from half-day sessions to Masters courses. The charity has supported staff in clinical and non-clinical roles and can help when other funding is limited or not available. The aim has always been to organise courses here on the Isle of Wight, reducing travel time, increasing the ability to attend, and enabling the charity to keep costs down. Much of the funding is donated by Lighthouse Medical, a healthcare organisation that is committed to re-investing in the Island’s Primary Care services. The belief is that by helping to meet education/training needs, Isle of Wight Primary healthcare staff will remain keen, enthusiastic, and able to provide the first-class healthcare services that patients across the Island deserve. This will also help to maintain a sustainable improvement in the Isle of Wight’s health services.

Matt WEston Matt WEston Education Consultant / Director Matt began his career working in industry using his attention to detail for quality assurance purposes, during this time he passed several courses on risk assessing and auditing. Matt has been involved in training, since early 2000s where he set up and provided training programs for individuals in industry. Since starting a teaching career Matt has trained, coached and provided CPD for both ITT and experienced teachers. Matt is a STEM Learning Facilitator and frequently works for Southampton University and St George’s SLP providing bespoke Chemistry and Teaching & Learning CPD for schools. More recently Matt has been working internationally, consulting with governments, industries and universities to develop national curriculums and schemes in Science, Technolog, Engineering and Maths (STEAM). Matt still enjoys tutoring students at KS3 and GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics helping students achieve a better understanding of the subjects and an increased confidence to apply themselves. One of the biggest comments from students is “thank you for making me believe I can do Science”. Matt has had a love of the outdoors all of his life and his spare time is spent enjoying bushcraft, hiking, canoeing and cycling. Matt has worked closely with BushcraftUK and Forest Knights and his passion is now to combine his love of teaching with his passion for the outdoors so that new generations can be taught relevant content whilst developing important personal skills including communication, leaderships, problem solving, mental health and resilience.
