Southend High School For Girls

Southend-On-Sea

It’s a great privilege to introduce myself as the Headteacher at Southend High School for Girls, and on behalf of our students and staff, I’m pleased to welcome you to our website. The school has over a hundred years of history, tradition and success – educating the brightest young minds. As Headteacher, I’m passionate about the learning and development of our students and am delighted that you’ve shown an interest in our wonderful school. SHSG is a unique school. Students and staff cherish its traditions, such as celebrating the school’s birthday just before October half term and presenting birthday presents to the school. Clocks are a popular gift! Our 1,200 students and 140 staff are joined by past pupils, governors and headteachers in the hall – singing the school’s song, Jerusalem, with gusto – a great example of the SHSG family coming together. Indeed, once a member of the SHSG family, always a member of the SHSG family. Southend High School for Girls is a high-performing grammar school – academic excellence is at the core of our purpose and commitment to students and parents. Teachers are passionate about their subjects and are experts in their fields. We are unashamedly ambitious for our students and challenge them far beyond the National Curriculum. For example, in Year 7 students learn Latin and classical Greek, in addition to learning how to code in computer science. At GCSE, students can take Further Maths and Statistics, including additional subjects beyond the curriculum, such as Critical and Contextual Art. At A Level, students study four subjects and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Of course, we’re about far more than just great academic outcomes. Developing the whole person and seeing our Year 7s grow into confident, articulate and highly motivated young adults strong in self-belief and ready to start their next chapter after Year 13 is why we’re here. A student’s journey at SHSG is full of adventure, and we encourage students to get involved. There’s something to inspire and challenge everyone. Students relish opportunities to participate in Duke of Edinburgh and World Challenge expeditions, to be leaders, to perform in school shows, and to represent the school in our nationally renowned sports teams. SHSG is an inspiring and vibrant place, full of energy and laughter – and amazing people! It’s a school where we constantly aim to meet the challenges set out in our principles of ensuring that everyone is safe, happy and successful.

Sophro By Nature

sophro by nature

I'm a mum of two, and a certified Relaxation & Sophrology Therapist based in Kings Heath and Stirchley in Birmingham, UK -consulting online and in-person, in French and English, for stress & anxiety management, pregnancy and birth preparation, children, sleep issues, mindset coaching and self-development, and life transitions and challenges. ‍ My Approach ‍ Sophro by Nature was born from my passion for People and Nature, and my desire to promote a healthier and deeper connection between our body and mind, and the world around us. Sophro comes from the Greek "Sos" and "Phren" meaning awareness/balance of the Body-mind connection, and "by Nature" refers to the fact that this connection/awareness is natural - but with life's busyness we tend to forget about it. It also refers to my passion for bringing therapy to the outdoors. ‍ I use relaxation therapy along a holistic therapeutic method - called sophrology - that combines classic relaxation techniques with mindset coaching, and which blends the best of Western science (hypnotherapy, positive & behavioural psychology, relaxation techniques, guided imagery, counselling skills) and Eastern traditions (mindfulness, yoga, breathing, visualisation, meditation) to balance the body-mind connection and provide a more serene approach to life challenges. (see FAQ for more info on Sophrology). ‍ All the techniques I use are advocated for by the NHS on their website and have been shown to be effective by research studies - my own background is grounded in science with a (honour) MSc in Environmental Studies and Ecotourism from Edinburgh Napier University. I've also spent over 400 hours in training and supervised therapy for two years in a state-accredited school in France to become a Relaxation and Sophrology Therapist :) ‍ About Me After I became a mum for the first time in the US, I was looking for a new way of being a working mother. When we moved to Luxembourg, I set up a project coming from my heart: working with children and families. This led me to create my own Professional Training Center in Language Development and Nature Education in Luxembourg. Thanks to this experience, I've worked with people of all ages, walks of life, cultures and nationalities - parents and babies, young children with special needs, mums and dads to be, grandparents, language therapists, and early-years educators. ‍ Working with parents and children also naturally led me to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle, general well-being, and stress management. This is what started my life-long mission, and prompted me to train as a Relaxation and Sophrology Therapist: to provide support and ways to alleviate stress-related issues that I witnessed - much too often - in people's daily lives. My own experience living and working in various countries with different cultures expanded my cultural and diversity sensitivity - this is why I chose to specialise in children, families, and especially expatriates/immigrants and Third Culture Kids. What I love most about my work is the flexible and therapeutic nature of the methods I use; one day I can prepare a pregnant mum for birth and dealing with pain and fear, the day after I can help a child deal with stress and anxiety, the next day I can help a client improve sleep issues, and the following day I can provide emotional and pain relief to someone going through chemotherapy... It is never boring and always feels so rewarding! As a holistic practitioner, I enjoy taking into account all aspect of your life(style), so that I can provide tools and techniques to empower but also lead to another way of being yourself - a happier and healthier self :) I've always be a Nature lover (I was a Climbing Instructor and trained in Primitive Skills and Nature Education too), and I combine this important value of mine with relaxation and sophrology when I design sessions for my clients, as I firmly believe that the natural world - our world - is a great source of appeasement. In my spare time, I enjoy running, gardening, spending time in Nature, photography, reading, crafting with my kids, and experimenting with fermented food.

He has also been shortlisted as one of the top 30 entrepreneurs (out of 500 entrepreneurs) for ‘Accelerating Entrepreneurs Program 2015’ hosted by Ernst & Young. “It has certainly not been an easy journey coming this far. To be able to offer top-notch services in the field of education requires a lot of hard work, commitment and dedication,” quotes Mr. Singh confidently. Ramneet Kaur, Co-Founder DLP India stated, “What helps us distinguish from others in the market is our collaboration with top-ranked universities in the world including Marconi International University, Amity University, UPES Dehradun, UNICAF University, ICFAI University and MIT School of Distance Education. We are unique because we are not a single university offering distance learning courses but a network of universities offering students abundant options to pursue the course of their own choice and that too, from the university they wish to.” DLP’s Expanding Footprints Besides offering various academic and non-academic learning courses, there is a lot more to the work of DLP India. Description Greek History Diploma  Greek History Diploma course is on offer from Elearncollege. The Greek History Diploma course is a journey through the history of the progress of the great Greek civilisation in the fields of politics, intellect, and creativity. The course starts with a deep dive into the Bronze age and ends with the classical period. The course outlines everything we know as ancient Greece today, including the various places and the lives of the Greeks as their history developed. The Greek History Diploma course surveys the necessary and significant changes of the Greek civilisation, including the foundational events that may be imagined or real, the great wars they fought, and their most essential cultural traditions and social institutions. The course explores the ancient Greek's perceptions of the world surrounding them and their place in it. It attempts to heed the calls of their slaves and the women, often unheard of in many accounts of their history. There are many blind spots and previously unexplored insights into the civilisation of the Greeks, which you will learn in this course; mysteries to solve and drama to uncover that will ultimately lead to a better understanding of yourself. The ancient Greek civilisation began between the 12th and 9th BC, known as the Greek Dark Ages. This period ended with the end of antiquity circa 600AD. What followed was the Early Middle Ages and the era known as the Byzantine period. About three centuries after the collapse of the Late Bronze Age and Mycenaean Greece, the formation of the Greek urban poleis began during the 8th century BC. This marked the Archaic period's start and the Mediterranean Basin colonisation. The period preceded the Classical Greece era, beginning with the Greco-Persian war and extending to the 4th century and 5th century BC. Hellenistic civilisation spread from the western Mediterranean to Central Asia with the conquests of Alexander the Great, the ruler of Macedonia. The Hellenistic era met its end as the Roman Republic took over the eastern Mediterranean, and the Roman Province of Macedonia was annexed from Roman Greece. Later, the Archaea province was also annexed from the Roman Empire. The culture of classical Greece had a lot of influence on Rome, especially in philosophy. Versions of it spread throughout the majority of Europe and the Mediterranean. Because of this, Classical Greece is often thought of as the cradle of Western Civilisation, the pivotal culture that set off the culture of the modern Western world, as its ideologies spread and became the founding archetypes in the fields of philosophy, politics, art, and science. The ancient Greek civilisation dominated most parts of the Mediterranean for thousands of years. Its powerful influence declined around 146 BC, but they were much more advanced in different fields of thought and inquiry, making them influential. The Greeks civilisation remains one of the first contributors to the development and advancement of our species in all areas of religion, politics, science, arts, and our perception and comprehension of our world and the universe. So few cultures have the same legacy as the ancient Greeks, continuing to have powerful concepts like philosophy, democracy, architectural orders, scientific theories, dramatic structure, and even the Olympic Games. Very few other cultures have had the same impact on our morals, values, and sense of being as deep as ancient Greek civilisation. Elearncollege's Greek History Diploma course goes through these three eras- Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic- chronologically consisting of the Greek civilisation to analyse the times when they existed and their contributions that still impact our world today. What you will learn   1: A Journey to the Ancient Period  2: Finding Prehistoric Civilisations  3: Dark Ages of Ancient Greece  4: The Ruling classes  5: Ancient Greek Warfare  6: Rise And Fall Of Empires  7: Art in Ancient Greece  Course Outcomes After completing the course, you will receive a diploma certificate and an academic transcript from Elearn college. Anatomy and Physiology Course

3.5(2)

By Elearncollege

Description Anatomy and Physiology Diploma Anatomy and Physiology deal with a lifeform's structures and functions. They are both approaches to studying a living organism and hence similar and closely associated. However, they are distinct perspectives as anatomy deals with the structure of living things, i.e. the parts and components that make up the biological systems of living things. In contrast, physiology is concerned with the functions of living things' parts and components, starting from the basic cell to a complex biological organ. In simple terms, anatomy is the study of parts of the body of a living organism. At the same time, physiology is the study of how these parts work individually and as a whole. These two topics are studied simultaneously to understand the living organism as a biological system comprehensively. Anatomy is the area of natural science that focuses on the structural organization of life forms. It covers the forms, parts and structure of living organisms. The external appearance and features and internal parts are both included in anatomy. Anatomy is derived from the Greek words ana-  and tomia which means 'up' and 'cutting', respectively. Therefore, the literal meaning of the root word of anatomy is 'cutting up' or dissection. Physiology studies principal organ systems and how the various parts of the body work together. It includes understanding cells, organs, and muscles and their chemical processes and associated functions. The word is derived from the Greek word phusiologia meaning 'natural philosophy.
