Wilson's School

London

IN THE GREAT WAR, 730 Old Wilsonians and staff went to fight. 120 never came back. To this day they are commemorated on the school’s War Memorial, which was opened in the old school (Camberwell) in 1921 following donations from the OW community. It was one of the few items brought from the old school to Sutton, demonstrating its spiritual and moral importance to our community. This week, assemblies led by the Head allowed the school to remember the fallen. The Headmaster’s talk focused on the significant (but often overlooked) contribution of troops and labourers from all over the world during both World Wars. India (modern day India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) contributed 1.4 million troops up to 1919 and saw action at Ypres, Neuve La Chapelle, Gallipoli and Mesopotamia. Fighting on both sides, two million men from the African continent were involved, with ten percent being killed or dying of disease. Mr Cole has spoken in the past of the cultural sensitivities shown to Muslim, Hindu and Sikh soldiers who were treated in a military hospital based in George IV’s extravagant pavilion in Brighton, but this year’s assembly focussed on the Double V Campaign to ensure civil rights for those who were returning from battle. Mr Cole emphasised the importance of commemorating all who fought in this and subsequent conflicts and reminded all present of the need not just for respect, but for gratitude to those who enable us to live in a free and tolerant society. We are reminded that many men and women from around the world gave their tomorrow for our today. At the end of the assembly the Head read out a selection of names of those who fell from our community, a wreath was placed by the School Captain (accompanied by members of the CCF) at the school’s War Memorial and silence observed after the sounding of the Last Post.

Suresh Brahmkumar Bhatt college of Physiotherapy was founded in 1999 with capacity of 30 annual admissions, later increased to 50 from 2005. It is the first Self financed college to be opened in Gujarat. The college came into being with pious & generous donation of Rs. 51 Lakhs from Late Shri Brahmkumar Bhatt from his M P Grant and Sadbhavna Charitable Trust. The college was inaugurated in 1999 by Justice of High Court Shri K G BalKrishnan and the ceremony was presided over by Mayor Shri MalinibenAtit, Shri BrahmkumarBhatt, Shri Surendra Patel and Commissioner Shri K KKailashnathan. Continuing and enhancing the physiotherapy knowledge, the institute successfully began Post-Graduate course in physiotherapy in 2006 with specialities like Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Neuromuscular Physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation.Ph.D program commenced in 2012. Right from its inception the college is fortunate to have the services of well-qualified and dedicated teachers. For a college, more important than the building is the quality of teachers. It is not an exaggeration to say that to a very great extent it was the teachers who attracted the best among the bright students to this college for pursuing their Physiotherapy studies. The twin combination of inherent brilliance of students and guidance and advice of the dedicated teachers has brought about the best result. The prestige of the college has increased year by year. Many dedicated teachers, some of whom have resigned, have contributed to the progress of this institute. The students are the heart of the college and it is they who keep the college and campus pulsating with life and vigour. A.M.C. Medical Education Trust has taken up the responsibility of medical education since 2008. For taking up this function the people of city of Ahmedabad in general and the medical persons in particular owe a lot of gratitude to the corporation because even though Para Medical education is not one of the compulsory functions of the corporation but for this noble gesture, hundreds of physio’s would have been deprived of their chance to pursue Physiotherapy studies and obtain Physiotherapy degrees. Since 2008, administration of the college is managed by AMC Medical education trust.

Stafford

I first found yoga in 2007, while travelling Asia, and the physicality of the practice caught my interest right away (such as supporting my weak lower back at the time), but also to quieten my mind and centre myself through my adventures.   Soon after, I trained in Ayurvedic Medicine as well as Ayurvedic Massage and found a holistic way to combine Ayurveda, Hatha Yoga and modern practices into enhancing my everyday wellbeing, as well as teaching others how to do the same. I have immersed myself in many sound therapy sessions. The feeling you get from being surrounded by intense sounds and vibrations is of grounded serenity. This helped me thrive through this time, bringing stillness to my mind and body. I incorporate this sound bowl therapy into all my yoga classes, so you too can experience the benefits. I am based in Stafford, where I have formed a fun, cool and welcoming yoga community. My intention as a professional yoga instructor is to help students listen to their inner selves and find the courage to step out of their comfort zone. Just like playing an instrument or sport needs practice, so does yoga. Nobody will be able to do all the yoga postures in the first class, even as an experienced yoga teacher, I still need to practice. Yoga is more than just getting into a posture and stretching the body. Yoga teaches you to be present and shows you ways to calm the mind. It is not at all competitive.  On the Path of Mindfulness You may practice yoga as we do in the UK, to relax, stretch and become more flexible. But yoga can be more than that. When you truly get into it and take the time to focus on your breathing, within an extended hold of the pose (as we do in Hatha Yoga), you adjust, you feel, you listen, you focus.  A light bulb starts to shine somewhere in your mind, your endorphins take over, you start to surrender, you may smile, you become one with the present moment - that’s when the true magic occurs.   Being present is a lifelong journey in itself and something I am still focusing on daily. It’s not easy and it doesn’t happen overnight, but through yoga, mindfulness and gratitude we lean closer and closer to being ever so present.  This is something I bring a lot of focus to in my yoga classes. It helps us to feel what is happening right now - not what happened or will happen, but what is happening. Take a deep breath right now - what do you feel? You feel the gift of the present moment.    Smiling is mandatory in my yoga classes - as I do believe humour and fun are key to experiencing the present moment and to releasing fabulous uplifting hormones. Believe me: this approach has helped me through many tough times.  Yoga has been a life changer for me, in times of worry, anxiety, the lows and the highs…it’s provided me with the opportunity to reflect, go within and come out of those times feeling totally nurtured and ready to take on every single chapter. My only hope is that you also feel this from the yoga practice.  I offer in-person yoga classes in Stafford, for small groups or 1-2-1. I am also qualified to offer holistic coaching, Massage Therapy and chakra energy balancing.

The Self-compassion Community

the self-compassion community

London

I'm a former board level executive director who rose quickly ... and became burnt out, young. I am also a former voice artist - something which served me well when a life-changing injury occurred in 2006. I suffered a ‘hip replacement gone wrong’ which left me with major arterial internal bleeding and genuinely fighting for my life ... physically of course, and subsequently mentally too as the months of physical recovery and pain rolled into many years. I went from being a high-achieving, fast-paced, super capable person, to someone who needed to learn to walk again. That took its toll. And years of pain and effort. Cultivating self-compassion and mindfulness helped me find a way through. Sounds trite almost doesn't it? But it's powerfully, powerfully true. Catherine Kell Meaningful and adaptable teaching I have studied hard to do the work I do, to get all the necessary qualifications and registrations (more on those below). Yet what exams and qualifications alone can't give someone is the heart to do the work. That 'in the veins' pulse to help improve the life of another. And I believe my journey gives me the authenticity to bring compassion-based approaches meaningfully and wholeheartedly to others. I embody what I teach, and I bring kindness, sincerity, warmth, and of course compassion to every interaction. I'm friendly and lively too! I bring an adaptable pace and tone depending on the environment. I'm passionate about bringing the skills of self-compassion and mindfulness into people's lives to help them make transformations, build their resources and step into their full expression and power from a place of self-acceptance and inner strength. It's a privilege to witness the unfolding of all aspects of their good health. Qualifications and Education Catherine has had a personal mindfulness and meditation practice since 2006. She is a qualified and authorised Trained Teacher of the evidence-based and empirically-supported Mindful Self-Compassion programmes and trained through the globally renowned Center for Mindful Self-Compassion in their intensive MSC programme developed by self-compassion pioneers Kristin Neff PhD and Christopher Germer PhD. She is trauma-sensitive in all her work, undertaking ongoing CPD in the trauma field. She has an MA Degree with Honours and as well as her training as a Mindfulness Teacher she holds a Professional Certification in Clinical and Therapeutic Mindfulness for applied use in 1-to-1 session work. Additionally, Catherine is an alumni of Compassion Cultivation Training with the Compassion Institute, a scientifically-backed and evidence-based training programme developed at Stanford University, as well as various compassion, mindfulness, meditation and lovingkindness professional development programs with Tara Brach and Sharon Salzberg, both global leaders in compassion and mindfulness. Catherine is also a Trained Teacher with the Mindfulness in Schools Project, and has passionately brought her skillset to scores of teenagers and school staff as a teacher of kindfulness, gratitude practices and the MiSP evidence-based 10-week mindfulness curriculum developed specifically for pupils and staff in schools. Catherine is a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist (Dip.Cl.Hyp (Distinction), Cl.NLP, CNHC Reg., SICH HPD, MNCH(Reg.) and Paediatric Clinical Hypnotherapist (Dip.Hyp Paediatrics (Distinction). In her past work with children, Catherine had a particular interest in anxiety, panic attacks and sleep, helping children and adolescents from the age of around 7 to 18. Today, working with adults, Catherine uses hypnosis in a coaching capacity rather than a clinical one in order to help those working with her to cultivate self-compassion, boost life-satisfaction, uplevel and truly thrive. Previously, Catherine provided in-depth parenting support and empowerment services for whole families either in office from a local health centre, or via home visits. Catherine led specialist therapeutic support and learning sessions for mothers based around cultivating mindful self-compassion and strengthening the parent-child connection in parenting. Catherine is a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, holds a Diploma In Positive Parenting and is a graduate of the 'Parenting by Connection Professionals Programme' with Hand in Hand Parenting. Catherine draws all her rich experience into every interaction. She is passionate about guiding people in developing the capacity to be with themselves in the kindest and most supportive way. Self-compassion can truly transform lives. Catherine is an accomplished speaker and provider of workshops and talks. She has contributed as a mindfulness and self-compassion expert to many podcasts and a number of mental health books.

Dunwalkin' Driving School Edinburgh www.dunwalkin.com

dunwalkin' driving school edinburgh www.dunwalkin.com

As your instructor I will provide: A friendly and relaxed atmosphere Structured driving lesson plans where we can monitor your progress Driving lessons are one to one and where you will get my full attention Collect and drop off facility at your Edinburgh home address, or an other location within Edinburgh that is convenient to you A non-smoking environment (legislation requires the vehicle, being a workplace, enforce a non-smoking policy) My aim is to teach you “safe driving for life” and not just get you through your driving test. Testimonials Leslie was great. I started to learn with a different school and found the lessons stressful and really not enjoyable, but Leslie helped me to relax and was calm and patient with his explanations. I ended up passing first time and would definitely recommend him as a teacher. Nina Nicholl – 1 May 2017 I would not have passed, if it were not for Leslie’s exceptional patience and determination to ensure that I felt 100% confident going into my test. He was always able to get me the time slots that I asked without a fuss! Would highly recommend. Thank you Leslie! Ellie Robertson – 14 February 2017 Leslie @ Dunwalkin what can I say from the most anxious, unconfident person you will probably come across! You are the most patient and nicest person I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet and learn from. You worked around my working hours, you taught me how to drive rather than just how to pass my test. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself and the result a pass with 2 minors! I look forward to our next adventure – motorway driving. To all the students who are like me, I can not recommend Leslie enough. He is an absolute diamond. Caroline McDonald – 18 January 2017 I passed my test first time! Leslie was a great instructor who was very clear and concise when explaining things to me. He was patient with me and was very calm and supportive. I would highly recommend Leslie! Thanks again for all your help. Lewis Ajodani – 5 January 2917 After two attempts at passing a test with another instructor, I approached Leslie as his reviews were excellent. They did not lie! He has a really relaxed but clear approach to teaching and made me feel really at ease in the car. He is really logical about driving, and makes you prepare for the road and not just the test. Having just passed yesterday (something I was starting to think would never be possible!) I feel great. Highly recommend! Olivia Ainsworth – 25 November 2016 Dunwalkin’ Driving School is great! I already had a license from another county, and unlike other driving schools I have contacted before, Dunwalkin’ Driving School did not try to sell me more lessons than I needed. Leslie Muldoon was patient, good at explaining, fair and fun to be around. He made an assessment of my driving, estimated how many classes I will need, and I finally passed straight away on my first try. Excellent. Connor Ki – 23 November 2016 Amazing driving lessons great price and a professional service from start to finish could have not done it without his help and commitment to me thanks again and will miss the Tuesday chats. Steven Munro – 29 September 2016 Having originally started driving with another instructor before I moved to Edinburgh, I found Leslie’s approach to be much more thorough and patient. He took the time to answer any questions and talk through alternative scenarios to those that were encountered during lessons, as well as emailing additional resources to help my understanding. All of this came together to give me the confidence to pass my test and become an independent driver Nina Jeffrey – 26 July 2016 Leslie was a fantastic instructor. Organising lessons was a doddle and he was very good at changing lesson times if something came up. He was always patient, understanding and helpful behind the wheel and I don’t think I would have passed first time without him. Highly recommend. Stuart McGachan – 23 July 2016 I found Leslie at Dunwalkin to be a very calm, helpful and engaging instructor. He always made me feel at ease behind the wheel and helped my learn to drive in a relaxed and enjoyable manner. I would fully recommend Dunwalkin to anyone wishing to learn to drive the right way. Harry Smith – 7 June 2016 I would highly recommend Dunwalkin Driving School for anyone learning to drive. Leslie was a great instructor who made my lessons as helpful and stress-free as possible. Definitely wouldn’t have been able to pass my test without his help. 10/10. Scott Burrell – 18 March 2016 Having had a number of lessons with Dunwalkin’ Driving School and subsequently passed my test I would like to express my gratitude to Mr Muldoon. The lessons were quick and easy to arrange, and Mr Muldoon offered great flexibility, allowing me to book a lesson at a time and date that was convenient. Further, the actual experience itself was excellent, as Mr Muldoon was not only very informative and a fantastic instructor, but he did so in a relaxed manner, which allowed me as a learner at the time to feel more relaxed and confident about my driving, something which I think is very important. All of the essential areas were covered extensively with Mr Muldoon, but he was equally happy to spend some time on a specific area if I felt it needed attention. Overall I am very pleased I used Dunwalkin’ Driving and I would highly recommend them. Jamie Crerar – 25 February 2016 At the beginning I was a fairly nervous and hesitant driver, but Leslie’s calm, supportive approach to teaching put me at ease every lesson. I took just over 25 hours with Leslie between my first lesson and my successful first driving test, and I can confidently say that he made every hour worthwhile and always left me feeling like I was making significant progress. Lessons took place in and around the routes commonly taken during driving tests at my test center, so when the test came I was fully prepared. His step-by-step techniques for carrying out potentially tricky reversing maneuvers makes them seem easy in no time at all. Leslie’s relaxing, approachable in-car atmosphere and excellent tuition has developed me into a confident, safe driver, and I am glad I chose him as my instructor; I would recommend him to anyone else looking to learn. Calum Hill – 31 December 2015 Leslie provided an excellent level of driving tuition that prepared me not only for all aspects that are covered in the practical driving test (which I passed first time) but for likely situations that could arise in my driving beyond that. He was an extremely patient instructor who always had a calming influence in spite of my nervous driving and sometimes inexplicable mistakes! The atmosphere in the car was always friendly, with good natured banter to lighten the mood. He was also very accommodating and flexible to fit driving lessons around my work and social life, including on his supposed days off…! Could not recommend him highly enough! Elliot Reid – 8 October 2014 I hadn’t driven since passing my test several years ago and was a bit nervous about taking a car out on my own. Having a few lessons really helped to bost my confidence and helped with the areas where I was lacking a bit of experience – driving on motorways, complex junctions and parking. >Leslie was really patient with me and helped me get to a stage where I can happily take a car out on my own. I’ve finally got my freedom back! Ashley Campbell – 15 August 2014 He has been my instructor since last September and today, I have finally passed! If it were not for Leslie’s relentless patience and understanding as well as his reliability – I never would have gotten through it! Not only is Leslie an amazing instructor, he adapts his learning style to suit you and helped me to understand not only how to be a safe and knowledgeable driver but also Leslie helped me understand myself and how I learn much better. It has been a long journey (no pun intended) and although I am partially sad that it has come to an end, I know that I have the confidence and ability to be a great (and safe) driver. I would highly recommend Leslie (and have done already) to my friends and family. I cannot thank Leslie enough for everything he has taught me. Thanks and with best wishes, Anna Sacco – 2 July 2014 Leslie is a fantastic driving instructor. From the first lesson you feel relaxed and comfortable as he talks you slowing and carefully through what you will be doing and how to properly complete the task. Leslie is extremely patient and calm at all times which rubs off on you!! The atmosphere in the car is always friendly so you keep calm and really enjoy your lessons! Leslie not only prepares you to pass your test, but takes the time to make sure you are capable of coping with all manner of driving conditions and scenarios, which makes you are more confident driver. L Cameron – 4 March 2014 I set myself a goal of learning to drive by a certain point and Leslie helped me achieve that goal. His approach to teaching is second to none. Not only does he teach you the skills to drive, but he also prepares you for the theory and practical tests by asking you questions and making you aware of potential hazards. And, he teaches you how to become one of the better drivers on the road. He picks up on your body language and your mind-set, and explains why you are making mistakes; and he breaks down the more complicated situations, step by step, to help you overcome any issues with your driving. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough. E Crossan – 12 Dec 2013 Excellent service for money! Very thorough and every single thing is explained well. Got me to pass on my first attempt! Would recommend to anyone looking for a driving instructor. Ben Davidson – 12 Dec 2013 I got in contact with Dunwalkin’ when I had two disappointments with other driving schools. When I started with Leslie he put me at ease straight away. After my first lesson with him he knew exactly what my weak points were and he built on them week by week to the point that I passed my test on 14/08/13. When you have leslie as a driving instructor you know that you have the right instructor, he is friendly and a very patient person, I should know when he had to put up with me and my mirrors, well should I say, the lack of using them!! All that said thanks again Leslie for getting me up to standard. Colin Bruce – 15 Aug 2013 The instructor was excellent, calm and supported me despite being very nervous at times. Easy to organise a lesson and prices very good. If anybody was going to get me though my test it was Dunwalkin’! Lewis Henderson – 17 June 2013 I started my driving lessons in October 2012 with Leslie and within the first lesson he was successful in teaching me the functions of the car and how do drive properly and not like in a video which I thought it was like at the time! He was able to do this through a mixture of it has to be said extreme patience, enthusiasm and the ability to put up with my constant questioning and answer them in such an effective way that it made me instantly more confident in my ability to drive. Leslie was a great teacher and it was thanks to him that I passed my practical test first time with only four minor faults! He was also extremely accommodating with the times of when the driving lessons took place and was flexible to my timings. I would very happily recommend him to anyone and hope that you are wise enough to make the choice of Leslie as your instructor! Alain Archibald I started my driving lessons at a comparatively old age with Dunwalkin. Throughout my learning journey, Leslie has offered a very professional, patient and enjoyable learning experience. He was particularly patient with my recurring mistakes and gave excellent practical pointers on how to avoid making them (especially on roundabouts!). He is very adept at removing stress and anxiety in new learners, especially those past their teens, and knows how to identify the root cause of learners’ errors and correct them. Coupled with excellent value for money, I would certainly recommend Dunwalkin to anyone looking to learn from scratch and reach a very high and safe standard of driving. Very grateful for all the training! Dan Blagojevic Leslie is a fantastic driving instructor. He is calm, patient, encouraging with his driving lessons and great at getting you past all your driving anxieties. During the driving lessons he simplified things where I complicated them, he clarified where I when I was confused and continually made me aware of my progress. As learner, I used to dread getting into the drivers seat but leslie ‘s positive teaching has given me such confidence in my driving and not only that, I enjoy it too! Vikki R Leslie was a great instructor. He allowed me to take things at my own pace but was not afraid to push me when he knew I was capable. As Leslie was very approachable I felt at ease speaking with him If I ever had any concerns over my driving. Learning with Dunwalkin suited me very well as Leslie was always very flexible in our timetable as my work hours would change week to week. I would highly recommend the Dunwalkin driving school as you are being taught skills to make you a good and conscientious driver for life and not just to pass a test. Sophia M Leslie is a fantastic driving instructor. From the first lesson Leslie helped me feel calm, relaxed and safe in the car, not an easy task with a very nervous learner. Leslie was always friendly, approachable, happy to answer any questions and flexible if lessons needed to be changed. His sense of humour, patience (of a saint!!!) and calmness made each lesson an enjoyable experience and helped me develop my confidence. Leslie’s approach is very much to teach safe driving for life, not just to get you through the test. His ‘coaching’ style enabled me to learn safe driving skills at a deeper level than surface learning which could be quickly forgotten. I feel confident that I now have the skills to drive safely on my own. I passed my test first time with 2 minor faults. I’ve already signed up for Pass Plus with Dunwalkin. My son has Asperger’s Syndrome and I’ve asked Leslie to teach him to drive as I believe he has the patience, understanding and skill to help him to become a confident and safe driver. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for driving lessons in a positive learning environment. Thank you so much Leslie you are a star. Jane M I found Leslie to be a calm, controlled presence in the car and had a firm grasp of all aspects required to pass the “practical driving test”. In addition, Leslie was approachable and honest, providing an accurate assessment of my skills. He accurately identified what I needed to improve in order to pass the test and also to become a good overall driver. Peter H I was a ‘late’ learner. Into my thirties before I plucked up the courage to learn to drive. And a pretty nervous individual into the bargain! But thanks to Leslie’s tuition and approach I quickly overcame my fears. He didn’t just teach me to drive, he gave me the confidence to drive (and not let mistakes get me down). And I passed first time! Colin M I passed my driving test first time with the help of a friendly and supportive instructor. I would fully recommend ‘Dunwalkin Driving School’ to anyone ready to hit the roads! Emma P You gave Alasdair the understanding of handling a car and driving with confidence and an awareness of other drivers. You made him aware of his limitations and keen to build up his driving skills. You encouraged him to undertake Pass Plus after passing his driving test (first time!) to make him safe as possible on the roads. You gave me the courage to take him out to practice driving.

Join me for a day retreat in the calm oasis of the Sunhouse to embrace the season of late summer and the Earth Element. A wonderful opportunity to take time out and align yourself with the natural flow of energy around us and within us, allowing each of us to access greater vitality and health. September is a time of transition the moment of fullness before the letting go of autumn. A time of giving and receiving and of recognising our own gifts. For me the one word that sums up the earth element is Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude. In the morning we will practice some simple qigong exercises, movements and meditations to access the deeper energies within us. We will be leaning into the earth nourishment of the equinox. Learning how to find our own grounded, stable centre, to connect to the earth of our body and to our own innate beauty and natural wisdom.  In the afternoon we will lie down and relax into the support of the earth to receive a deep healing Breathwork Session. We will use conscious connected breathing to encourage detoxification of your body, releasing stuck energy and beliefs and resetting your whole nervous system. Dancing the Wheel of Your Life 2023/24

By Leo Rutherford

Part 1, October 27th -29th, 2023 @ Clophill The Spiral continues – Four modules going around the cardinal directions West Direction – October 27th – 29th, 2023 With Leo Rutherford & Ruth Humming Ford Mother Earth – Life, Death and the Dance!  This module is focussed on the Earth and our connection to everything physical – in other words, every-THING! This includes our own body which is our spirit's 'Vehicle of-Experience' for this life on earth. The shamanic path is about developing our personal sovereignty, our right to Real-ise our True Self.   Our movement West is towards our fitness to navigate our way through this life and into the beyond. The shamans say that all sickness starts in the spiritand only later becomes physical. Using tools including shamanic journeying and dancing we will seek access to the beyond and to whatever healing is needed to bring us health and fitness both individually and collectively. Overcoming fear of death is a key to daring to live fully with heart. It is by committing to ourself that we will live fully, live to our best, put our whole self into whatever we have chosen to pursue…. that the most stunning results come to be achieved. And it is from that experience of daring to to go full-on that the greatest insight and development happens. Through Shamanic Journeying, ceremony, dance, we disappear into spirit, detaching from life’s ordinary challenges, able to let go and see through and past everyday issues to deeper patterns. We enter parallel realities where hidden patterns can be experienced and solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems can be accessed. 'Thank you very much for these past months & the journey round the wheel. I gained much from this and the group and it has been lovely to reconnect with you.... In deep appreciation of what you bring & gratitude for what these months have brought me. I do hope you will keep in touch.' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ October 27th -29th 10am – 6pm Saturday, 10am – 5pm Sunday At Clophill Centre, Shefford Road, Clophill, Beds MK45 4BT.  Residence (not included, book separately) available at Clophill or local B&B/ AirB&B etc.  Bring small share for light lunches. Dealing with challenging customers (In-House)

By The In House Training Company

Wouldn't sales be a 'walk in the park' without challenging customers? Why is it that some customers are so difficult to please, so quick to call 'foul' at the slightest blip and so mean with their gratitude after we've bent over backwards to accommodate them? Whether we are looking at prospective or existing customers, there is a toolkit for dealing with the most challenging of them. This course will help participants: Use broad open questions to give the customer a platform for their opinions or issues Improve listening skills to really understand what's behind the customer's challenging style Probe specific phrases to show listening and earn deeper disclosure Use silence to let challenging customers 'blow off steam' Understand the negative impact of certain phrases on a challenging customer Summarise effectively and reassure the customer of our understanding of their needs Recognise the 'behaviour cycle' and avoid emotional escalation Understand 'transactional analysis' and how to bring people from 'child' to 'adult' state Create loyalty in customers who are slow to give trust 1 What makes a customer 'challenging'? Why customers challenge us - understanding their drivers 'Wearing their shoes' - seeing things from their perspective Understanding our own personality style How to flex with a style that is different from our own Ways to quickly recognise a customer's style The benefits of flexing with a challenging customer's style 2 Practical exercise - forum theatre Participants take it in turns to deal with the trainer (who plays the role of the challenging customer) Observers stop the action when they hear or see something they deem wrong The participant in the seat gets a chance to use a suggested alternative line The participant who makes the suggestion has the chance to occupy the seat and deliver it themselves Frequent feedback from the trainer as to how the participant's words are making him feel Opportunities to rewind the action if an ill-advised line is suggested and delivered Flipchart for capturing what worked, what didn't work and why Mehrabian principle - the importance of body language and tone over words used 3 Questioning and listening skills How to use open questions to get the customer talking What questions to avoid and why The use of pauses and silence to reduce tension and build trust What listening is and what it isn't Question funnelling - how to earn deeper disclosure through probing The power of summary 4 Transactional analysis explained What is transactional analysis (TA)? Exploring the TA states and why people behave in that way under pressure How to bring challenging customers to 'adult' state to reduce tension How 'parent' or 'child' behaviours can be inadvertently triggered Understanding the 'behavioural cycle' and how to break it Mini-role play 'vignettes' to demonstrate real time impact of ill-chosen words 5 How to build trust with challenging customers Techniques for placating current challenging customers Methods that the participants have already used effectively - understanding why those methods worked and how other participants can model them Participants' experiences of trust having been lost - understanding why those experiences had that negative outcome How to 'go the extra mile' with challenging customers 6 Bringing a 'real' challenging customer to life Participants give the trainer a brief profile of a specific challenging customer of theirs 5-10 minute roleplay in which the trainer brings that individual to life Observing participants - without interrupting - make notes on what is and isn't working Trainer stops the action half-way through to give feedback on how he is feeling Participant goes back into the roleplay having recalibrated their approach based on feedback Observers give feedback on what did and didn't work Trainer comes out of character to explain the impact of the participant's words and behaviours 7 Wrap-up Key learnings from each participant Individual action planning - steps that can and will be implemented in the workplace
