Compost Works is a Liverpool-based social enterprise with the mission of diverting food waste from incineration and landfill. We set up communal composting facilities and run educational activities to do with composting awareness. We want to inspire people in the Liverpool City Region to compost their food waste. Our premise is that food waste is not rubbish! It shouldn’t go into a landfill or be incinerated, which are not environmentally sound waste disposal practices. Composting is a natural process where food waste breaks down through the activity of microscopic organisms and larger soil creatures, such as worms. This builds soil life and makes nutrients available to plants. Since 2019, we have set up a number of composting facilities in communities and for local business across Liverpool City Region. Compost produced from these sites is used for local growing projects and to enhance community green spaces. Christmas and New Year bin collections ⚠ Please be aware that we will not be collecting any bins during the week following Christmas. For Christmas week (20 to 23 December) we will be collecting your green-lidded recycling bin and brown food waste caddy. All collections will take place on your normal day. We will not be collecting any bins in the week following Christmas (27 to 30 December). Your collections will then return to normal from Tuesday 3 January 2023 when we will be collecting your grey-lidded waste bin and brown food waste caddy. Extra recycling If you have extra recycling, you can leave it beside your green-lidded bin for collection. Green-lidded bins will be collected in the week starting on Monday 9 January. Please put your recycling in white or clear bags, or cardboard boxes. We cannot collect any recycling if it is in black bags. Garden waste collections are an optional service to homes with gardens, for a small yearly subscription charge. The charge for 2022 to 2023 is £40 (the subscription is non-refundable once the subscription starts). This gives a weekly collection of a 240 litre brown garden waste bin. You can pay for more than one 240 litre bin if you need them. All subscriptions made from 1 April 2022 onwards will end on 31 March 2023. The price is fixed, so if you buy a subscription after April you will pay the same price as for a full year. If you don't have a garden waste subscription and need to dispose of garden waste, you can visit the Reuse and Recycling Centre or purchase some garden waste sacks. Your garden waste bin cannot be used for food waste - you should use the free separate collection of food waste. You can use your garden waste bin only for organic waste which can be composted, including: grass and hedge cuttings, leaves, flowers, weeds plants, twigs and branches (no more than 10cm diameter)
