Documentary Films Course

3.5(2)

By Elearncollege

Description Documentary Films Diploma Introducing the Documentary Films Diploma: a comprehensive online course tailored for those with a passion for storytelling through film. This programme offers an unparalleled understanding of the documentary film landscape, from its historical origins to the modern tools and techniques that shape it today. The Documentary Films Diploma begins with a robust examination of the birth and evolution of documentary films. It's an exciting journey through time, charting the transformative moments and innovations that have moulded this powerful form of storytelling. From here, participants gain insight into the myriad of documentary genres, each with its unique voice and impact. Of course, the heart of a compelling documentary is its production. To this end, the Documentary Films Diploma provides a thorough exploration of documentary filmmaking techniques. Students gain the skills to craft narratives that not only inform but also resonate deeply with audiences. Documentaries, however, are not merely about capturing reality; they also possess the ability to sway opinions and instigate change. The power and influence of documentaries section will give students a glimpse into how films can serve as catalysts for societal shifts and personal revelations. Some documentary makers have had a pronounced effect on the art and have elevated it to levels hitherto unimagined. This course pays homage to notable documentarians, discussing their contributions and delving into their most seminal works. These narratives are not only about the films but also the indomitable spirits behind them. Creating a documentary film, however, is not without its challenges. One crucial aspect often overlooked is the funding and distribution of documentary films. The Documentary Films Diploma illuminates the paths to secure funding and the strategies for effective distribution, ensuring that a filmmaker's vision reaches its intended audience. Legal matters can also present a hurdle to many documentary filmmakers. With a dedicated section on legal aspects in documentary filmmaking, students gain a fundamental understanding of the rights, permissions, and legal considerations essential to the trade. Yet, documentaries are not limited to the silver screen or streaming platforms. Their importance stretches into classrooms and educational institutions. Through the Documentary Films Diploma, students learn about the role of documentaries in education, their importance as teaching aids, and their ability to foster critical thinking and empathy among viewers. Furthermore, as we live in an increasingly globalised world, documentaries often transcend borders, touching lives across continents. An understanding of documentary films in the international scene ensures that students appreciate the universal themes that make documentaries resonate worldwide. Lastly, where is this incredible art form headed? As technology evolves and global events shape our narratives, the future of documentary filmmaking becomes an exciting realm of possibility. This course, with its forward-thinking approach, provides a speculative yet informed glimpse into what the future holds. Films Without Borders (FWB) is a non-political UK registered charity that provides hands-on educational filmmaking workshops for youth between the ages of 15 – 19, living in challenging countries around the globe. FWB’s intention is to break down barriers, build bridges, and create a dialogue whilst simultaneously teaching youth the first stages of film production.. Since our launch in 2010 we have run more than 20 successful workshops in countries which include Israel, Rwanda, South Africa, Palestine, and most recently in aboriginal communities in Australia, enabling us to access over 300 young people living at risk. Our FWB participants subsequently made a series of high quality short films, which have been screened at prestigious international film festivals, including the Cannes International Film Festival. We are delighted that our films were screened during royal visits in Australia and South Africa, where they were shown in the presence of President Zuma and the Earl and Countess of Wessex. The films have also been shown on various networks around the world. In 2013 FWB won the Brit Week Innovation in Philanthropy Award in Los Angeles. In 2014 FWB arranged paid work experience at the Jerusalem Cinemathèque/Film Festival for a Palestinian FWB participant. She continues to work for the organization on a paid freelance basis. In 2015 we are delighted to announce that Lionsgate UK has supported three internships, one with a casting director and two on a major feature film. The interns are from Israel, Rwanda and a South African township. This has resulted in the Israeli intern working on a paid freelance basis for the casting director. The South African intern has been moved out of the township and placed into a job created by S-ABC in South Africa. This has all been initiated and financially supported by FWB. We are currently looking at supporting a Masters in film for the Rwandan participant. We share an independent partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, whereby we incorporate award participants into FWB’s global workshops. Our other major partners include Swarovski, Lionsgate UK, Swiss International Airlines, Twickenham Studios, Deluxe Post Production/Encore, The Editpool. FWB enjoys the invaluable hand on support of George Lucas, Whoopi Goldberg, Mike Newell and Sam Mendes, to name but a few. We are very proud to have Nadja Swarovski as our Patron.
