Learn to Re-create was founded by Olusola McKenzie in 2010 as a social enterprise to provide a bridge between the fashion industry and access to entry level opportunities. This was going to be offered to creative people who wanted to develop a career in the sector but lacked training.

LEARN ◊ CREATE ◊ CONNECT  The Jewellery Business is a fully equipped jewellery studio where you can learn various jewellery making techniques. Come to a one off class just for a day, or join our regular weekely classes and learn the skills you need to create your own designs.  Our tutors have many years of experience in making jewellery, teaching and also running thier own jewellery businesses. We have courses that will suit total beginners and courses where we can teach you to advance your skills.  We also offer buisness coaching and one to one skills sessions for people who want to take thier start a jewellery business or take thier business or to the next level.

field breaks art

Field Breaks started out in the Autumn of 2007 to provide a selection of professionally tutored illustration workshops in the Peak District. This followed the demise of similar workshops in the area and filled a much needed gap for people wanting short affordable art breaks in botanical illustration and landscape painting. Such was the demand for this provision that over the following years the programme has been extended to include a greater selection of courses and venues, along with a growing number of specialist professional tutors. 2020 and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic saw great challenges to all small businesses, including Field Breaks, with courses rescheduled for safer times. This was an opportunity however for founder member Sue to think seriously about her achievements, goals and ambitions, and after some deliberation decided to pass the business on to fellow artist Hazel. Along with many happy memories of running Field Breaks, Sue is enjoying the opportunity to start new projects. With the handover, Hazel decided to revitalise the old website - "I'm re-dressing the shop window while it's quiet!" Following suggestions from her peers, this also gave her the opportunity to re-think and amend the name from "Field Breaks" to "Field Breaks Art", which lends more focus under the artwork umbrella. We hope you like it! After the extended lockdown, Hazel added a new range of on-line mini workshops in the Spring of 2021, which were a lovely way to keep connected with other artists and share ideas. From July 2021 we were once again able to offer in-person workshops so the focus was to deliver quality tutor-led courses while maintaining a level of safety, including reduced class numbers to enable social distancing. In 2022 we are pleased to be able to offer another full programme of workshops in drawing, painting, botanical illustration, natural history, landscape, abstract, and mixed media including textiles and craft workshops in batik, jewellery making, lacemaking and felting. Natural dyes can be made using a variety of plant materials including leaves, flowers, roots, tree barks and kitchen waste. The use of alum and iron as mordants can also extend the variety of the dye colours. Throughout history, people have dyed their textiles using common, locally available materials, this can still be a very satisfying way of adding colour to fabric and yarn to use in your own craft project. Natural Dyes Workshop In this workshop we will make natural dyes from a variety of sources and use alum and iron mordants. We will dye yarn and fabric in the heated dye pots, using tried and tested recipes. We will use the dyed yarn and fabric from our dye pots to produce a colourful sample swatch, for you to keep as a record and use for future reference. This workshop aims to teach you the basics of natural dyeing for you to gain enough knowledge and confidence to continue natural dyeing independently. All materials and equipment are provided. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting messy, or bring an apron. You may also like to bring a small garment, like a t-shirt, a similar size piece of fabric, or some yarn to put in one of the dye pots.
