Stoneware Pottery Monster Workshop in Northumberland
This monstrous pottery class, now in its fourth year, designed for all ages, will see you create a plant pot using the slab-building technique in just ninety minutes! Although simple in principle, it will involve giving your monster character and personality, so lots of imagination will be needed to create your Frankenstein Pot! The basic method will be demonstrated at the start, and then it's up to you to create your pot! Once finished, your monster will stay at the studio to be fired, glazed and then re-fired. Then it's up to you to plant and nurture your monster pot - and grow something that matches the personality that has emerged - or use it for pens, brushes, whatever...
There are only eight places per session - this allows enough access to support for everyone to be successful! As this is a creative class designed to be accessible to all including younger potters, we must insist that a parent or guardian attends with any participant aged 16 or under. The numbers are limited to avoid over-crowding in the workshop. Each ticket books a maker's-seat at the pottery table. If you are going to have to attend as a (free) specator, please make a note of this at the time of booking. 
If you book a place for a young person and feel they will need help in creating their monster, please come along and help them (as a non-paying spectator). Even with only eight people booked in a session, it can be difficult to support everyone in the way they need. Again, please note this at the time of booking. 
The ticket price covers all tuition, tools, firings and glaze for one monster pot. Please note that these pots will be glazed in just one colour - dip-glazed as you request. 
A word of warning - the kiln Gods can be fickle, and despite doing everything possible, some pieces will fail, crack or blow up (!) in the kiln. There are no guarantees in pottery, not even for seasoned potters. A second word of warning - working with pottery can be hugely addictive. You have been warned!
The New Ford Studio is housed on the ground floor of the old Reading Rooms - you will find it just up the road from Lady Waterford Hall. Nearby are many attractions and places to walk, shop and eat; how about a near by Narrow-guage Railway (that runs to Etal Castle and back), a working flour mill, a Village Shop & Tearoom, a heavy horse centre, a micro-brewery, or a Riverside cafe? 
Please note - access to the studio is only via a set of external stone steps, and there is a single toilet available on site. The booking cost (£22.50) secures a spot at the maker's table; if you need to stay to support a younger participant, please make sure you have noted this when you book your ticket!

During that time, he has worked exclusively in well intervention and completions. He was responsible for the day-to-day supervision of all well intervention work on Shell&rsquo;s Persian/Arabian Gulf platforms. This included completion running, coil tubing, e-line, slickline, hydraulic workovers, well testing and stimulation operations. An office-based role as a senior well engineer followed. He was responsible for planning, programming and organising of all the well engineering and intervention work on a number of fields in the Middle East. He had a brief spell as a Site Representative for Santos in Australia before joining Petro-Canada as Completions Superintendent in Syria, then moved to Australia as Completions Operations Superintendent for Santos, before returning to Shell as Field Supervisor Completions and Well Interventions in Iraq where he carried out the first ever formal abandonment of a well in the Majnoon Field. While working on rotation, he regularly taught Completion Practices, Well Intervention, Well Integrity and Reporting &amp; Planning courses all over the world. Your Expert Course Instructor has over 40 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry. During that time, he has worked exclusively in well intervention and completions. After a number of years working for intervention service companies (completions, slickline & workovers), he joined Shell as a well service supervisor. He was responsible for the day-to-day supervision of all well intervention work on Shell’s Persian/Arabian Gulf platforms. This included completion running, coil tubing, e-line, slickline, hydraulic workovers, well testing and stimulation operations. An office-based role as a senior well engineer followed. He was responsible for planning, programming and organising of all the well engineering and intervention work on a number of fields in the Middle East. He had a brief spell as a Site Representative for Santos in Australia before joining Petro-Canada as Completions Superintendent in Syria, then moved to Australia as Completions Operations Superintendent for Santos, before returning to Shell as Field Supervisor Completions and Well Interventions in Iraq where he carried out the first ever formal abandonment of a well in the Majnoon Field. While working on rotation, he regularly taught Completion Practices, Well Intervention, Well Integrity and Reporting & Planning courses all over the world. In 2014, he started to focus 100% on training and became the Technical Director for EnergyEdge. Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

Her main areas of focus this year are adult fiction and non-fiction, as well as non-fiction for 7+, and MG and YA fiction.In Fiction, Megan is keen to see high-concept love stories (think The Flat Share or The Lock In) for both commercial and reading group readers. She&rsquo;d love to see those familiar romance tropes &ndash; enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, love triangles, forbidden love etc. &ndash; with underrepresented characters at the centre.She is also looking for historical fiction and gothic horror (think Laura Purcell, Stacey Halls and Silvia Moreno-Garcia) &ndash; anything that has a creepy, uneasy undertone is likely for Megan&rsquo;s list.Megan is also actively looking for upmarket fiction and would love to see layered family drama, contemporary stories about life today and darkly comic novels that explore a specific time, place or experience.In Non-Fiction, Megan is keen to hear from experts in their field talking about topics relating to film, music, true crime, popular culture, history and issues from largely unrepresented perspectives.
