Karen studied English Literature at University many years ago. She loves writing, reading and poetry, and she often finds inspiration for yoga classes in poems and quotations. Karen loves teaching people in all stages of life how to relax and feel better. She is also in her element supporting pregnant women and new mums. Karen Lawrence holds a Yoga Alliance recognised specialist qualification as a Yin and Restorative Yoga Instructor. She has also completed full training recognised by the Federation of Antenatal Educators which qualifies her to teach Pregnancy, Postnatal and Mother and Baby Yoga. Karen is a qualified professional Reflexologist, specialising in holistic therapy for pregnancy, menopause and women’s health. She has completed accredited training in Closing the Bones and Postnatal Recovery Massage. Karen holds a qualification in Aromatherapy for Birth. She has trained with MAM as a Three Step Rewind practitioner. She is a qualified Baby Massage instructor and a trained sound therapist. Karen is a Registered Midwife and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor), although she is no longer actively working in these roles. She is currently working part time as a registered health professional in the Covid 19 vaccinations programme. Karen believes in a gentle, holistic and compassionate approach to yoga, parenting and life in general. Yoga and meditation have helped her cope with some of the challenges of being a midwife, a health visitor, a mother and simply a human being. Karen loves to care for carers. Karen has a daughter with special needs. She knows all about the pressures of caring for others, both personally and professionally. Karen understands how important it is for carers to be able to rest and relax. Many people with heavy caring responsibilities come to The Calm Space for rest, empathy and relaxation.

The Campion School aims to be an outstanding Roman Catholic school with a strong and united community in which everyone contributes to the school’s religious and educational objectives. The school was established by the Society of Jesus in 1962 and it bears the name of one of the most famous English Jesuits who was martyred for the Faith in 1581, Edmund Campion, S.J. The school has developed its own distinctive Catholic ethos and traditions, building on those first endowed upon it by the Jesuits. It seeks to draw on the long-established Jesuit educational ideals of a Catholic community in which endeavour and opportunity lead students to the highest levels of achievement. The most recent Diocesan and Ofsted inspections described the school as an ‘outstanding Catholic school’ and a ‘good school with many outstanding features’. We are proud of our successes and have ambitious plans to develop and improve the school further. “Success and personal endeavour are encouraged, rewarded and celebrated. There is a strong ethos of not only wanting to do well but about being proud of doing so.” We have a long-standing tradition of providing a rich and varied curriculum to stimulate and interest students. Each individual is given the appropriate support to achieve their full potential. For example, students who are particularly gifted or talented may be offered courses operated by the London Borough of Havering and during lessons they are often given extension work to stretch and challenge. In 2019, our Year 11 students achieved excellent GCSE results, with 89% achieving grade 4 and above in English and mathematics. Furthermore, 43% of students achieved the EBacc. The numbers achieving two good grades in science and at least one good grade in a modern foreign language are also very high by local and national comparisons.

Southend Adult Community College (SACC) is Southend Borough Council’s provider of adult education, providing education and training to more than 5,000 learners. SACC provides 100s of part-time leisure courses, English, maths, employability courses, traineeships, vocational qualifications, CPD and industry specific training for adults and for young people 16+ apprenticeships and full-time vocational programmes. SACC provides community outreach provision and family learning in local community venues and employee training and assessment on employer premises. SACC has three activity centres, its main Southchurch Centre, an adult centre at Belfairs Academy in Leigh and a specialist centre for young adults with complex and profound learning difficulties and disabilities in Westcliff. At our last Ofsted inspection, SACC was judged for the second time as a good college with outstanding features. Key findings are: • success rates have improved over the last few years and many are well above national rates • learners develop good practical, vocational and employability skills. They make good progress in developing these skills • learners on study programmes do well. The college has made a significant contribution to reducing the number of young people in the borough who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) • staff are particularly effective at finding good work placements for learners on employability programmes. These placements relate directly to learners’ aims and provide good workplace experience • teachers use their professional skills and knowledge well to help learners relate their studies to the world of work and gain employment or promotion • staff, at all levels, create good partnerships with a range of agencies. After graduating with a 2.1 BA Hons in Marketing and Business Studies, I qualified as a teacher and taught Maths, English, Music, Science and Business Studies in a Secondary State School. S6 Tutoring is a private limited company in the education sector, dedicated to tutoring and mentoring young people. The company is young and vibrant and is the choice for parents who want their children to maximise their academic potential. Our vision is to play a pivotal role in improving academic standards. The company provides an initial, honest, home assessment that will accurately evaluate a child’s need. Each tutor is CRB checked and has qualifications and experience relevant to the role. An assessment of a child’s ability and potential is carried out in the initial stages, leaving parents secure in their expectations. I encourage my team of tutors to be pro-active in their approach and be responsible for the provision of educational services, continually pushing the boundaries with effective and exciting teaching aids. We receive excellent recommendations and client reviews and have continued to attract new clients, due to the commitment of the team and the continued success rate in students passing and obtaining a place at their first choice of grammar school – details of which can be seen on our Results pages. In summary, I feel that S6 Tutoring will build on its success by continuing to offer an educational experience focused on the unique needs of each of our clients. The company has much improved since its inception, particularly with the launch of the S6 Hub.
