John Masefield High School

Herefordshire

June 2011. We take children from Ledbury Primary School and over twenty other local primary schools in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. Headteacher’s Introduction Please click on the link for an introduction from the Headteacher, Mr Andrew Evans. Introduction from the Headteacher Site and Facilities The school is situated close to the edge of the town with views over the surrounding countryside. Subject departments have well-equipped suites of teaching rooms, all with interactive touch screens and we have seven ICT suites and over three hundred computers so that computer-based facilities are always available. Our sport and leisure complex provides excellent indoor facilities together with a large, floodlit Astroturf pitch. In 2009 we opened our Student Services Centre, the first of its kind to be established in Herefordshire. The Centre sets a new standard for inclusive and supportive secondary education, bringing together all essential pastoral and academic support services under one roof. Sixth Form Our Sixth Form Centre is housed in a purpose-built, separate suite of teaching rooms, an ICT network, study room, common room and offices. We have an open entry policy with courses to suit students of all abilities and aptitudes. Numbers each year average around one hundred and twenty students and this means that class sizes can be kept relatively small. Senior Leadership Team Our Senior Leadership Team includes the Headteacher, the Deputy Headteacher, four Assistant Headteacher and the School Business Manager. Successive OFSTED reports have praised the quality of leadership and management at JMHS. The Staff Staff work well as a team and are very supportive of each other. New staff have an induction programme which is individual and matched to previous experience, skills and prior knowledge. Faculty leaders see their most important role as the support of colleagues and they are committed to helping members of their team to work as effectively as possible. Pastoral Care We have an excellent pastoral care system led by our Assistant Headteacher for Pastoral Care and expertly supported by Year Leaders and a team of form tutors. We firmly believe that each student should have key adults whose support is continuous throughout their school careers. Student Support Assistants offer excellent support to Year Leaders as well as being a contact point for both parents and students alike. All students are also allocated to a House. At the end of each academic year Houses and Year groups compete for trophies awarded for positive behaviour, high attendance, sporting achievement and participation, the learning standards, charity work and House Points. Each week students have assemblies and throughout the year take part in a series of fun and exciting challenges. We find this gives students a strong sense of identity within our school

Oxford Learning College

All the courses offered by Oxford Learning College are distance learning courses. That is to say, we do not have college premises for students to attend and all courses are accessed online. We offer distance learning courses online from Level 2 Diplomas and GCSEs through to Level 7 Diplomas and foundation degrees. Oxford Learning College is a registered educational institution and is an independent, self-financing organisation. Oxford Learning College has developed quality, flexible and open distance learning materials for adults and continues to invest in the development of innovative learning systems, from first levels to degree and professional training programmes. Oxford Learning College works in conjunction with other institutions to provide students with the most comprehensive learning materials and support them in fulfilling their academic aims. Oxford Learning College offers students a flexible approach to learning which makes education possible for those who may otherwise not be able to complete a programme due to geographical restrictions and/or work or home-life commitments. It also benefits those who prefer to be in control of their studies. Please read the full course description and time-scales for each course. About Distance Learning Distance learning in the past used to involve sending coursework and assignments by post to a college and waiting for a tutor to respond with feedback by return post. Now students use our online learning environment to access the course study materials and to contact their tutor. All correspondence is online, so you don’t need to worry about delays and can access your tutor or materials anywhere in the world – at any time. Studying via distance learning – whether for an A Level in Biology, a BTEC in Business Studies or a Level 3 Diploma in Counselling – gives students flexibility. We do not set homework deadlines or issue class timetables, so you can study in your own time, when it suits you. Distance learning requires students to be self motivated, which will help lead you to fantastic grades. Our student services team and tutors offer support and guidance throughout the course, and new students are given their study materials and helpful documents as soon as they enrol. You could enrol today and be starting your studies by this evening! Tutor Support Our tutors are available online to answer student queries and to mark assignments, thus offering high levels of support and guidance throughout the course. Our Student Services department team are also here to answer calls and emails from current and potential students. In this way you can feel supported every step of the way. Whether you are accustomed to distance learning or are considering it for the first time, talk to us today for advice about any of our distance learning courses.

Functional Patterns

About Functional Patterns The Future of Human Health and Fitness... is Now The conceptual framework of Functional Patterns was first established in 2009 by CEO and Founder Naudi Aguilar. The notion of training in relation to an organism's biological characteristics was borne out of this framework, and after stringent testing and diligent research, the Functional Patterns methodology was created. Drawing from anthropology, kinesiology, biology, sociology, physiology and more — Functional Patterns has taken an integrative approach its practice since inception. With the launch of the Power of Posture in 2013, the online spread of the Functional Patterns system of training saw tremendous growth. Bringing in people from around the world, thousands of individuals sought training to address their imbalances and learn how to move better by exceeding the standard practices of the time. Since then, nearly five hundred people have been certified in the FP training system spanning every continent, with thousands more using our 10 Week Online Course from the comfort of their homes to great benefit. The combined effect this education has had on the fitness industry has been a shift in the physical training landscape towards exercises and program designs that incorporate more unilateral, rotational, and contralateral movements. The mission of Functional Patterns has been to level the playing field, so to speak, between the small proportion of highly-skilled movers and the majority of what's been referred to as "Average Jane's/Joe's". We have taken on the arduous task of codifying the human blueprint of biomechanical movement to bridge this divide — reformulating the human body's affective movement capabilities to access kinesthetic intelligence beyond the supposed "innate" inclinations of an individual's movement capacities. In laymen's terms, we've made it so any human can enjoy the benefits of FP regardless of skill level or knowledge. This push for accessibility is a hallmark of our training system, breaking down complicated subject matter for the everyday person to utilize and improve upon in their daily lives. We bring symmetry and muscular balance to people enabling them to move better, look better, and feel less pain on a general basis. Through the economization of movement, Functional Patterns is making our mission a reality, evidenced by the numerous results that FP practitioners have developed in themselves and their clients across the globe. And this is just the beginning... With the accumulating case studies of clients and practitioners, the academic research being conducted into FP, and the everyday people who employ our practice daily, Functional Patterns is becoming the new industry standard of human health and fitness. Ultimately, the future we want is one of health, regeneration, and sustainability. The power to bring about this future is with all of us.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Penrith

Penrith

This is a busy, happy and successful school with well motivated and conscientious pupils, a highly experienced and committed teaching staff, and outstanding parental support. We have a very clear recognition here between teachers and pupils that we are on the same side, we are working together. We all share the same vision to do our best to ensure that everyone achieves their full potential in the time they are in the school. Queen Elizabeth Grammar School is about taking the best aspects of the traditional grammar school ethos and blending them with the most useful elements of good practice in modern education. The grammar school ethos is about offering an academic curriculum, encouraging our pupils to have high aspirations and working in a disciplined environment which has a high regard for the community, for honesty and mutual respect. There is considerable extra-curricular provision in sport and the performing and creative arts. We also have an extensive programme of educational visits. ‘Preparing our students to succeed in tomorrow’s world’ is our ethos statement. This is achieved in a happy, safe culture where students and staff work together towards shared goals. Academic outcomes at both GCSE and ‘A’ Level are excellent and are well above national averages every year. Students also excel in sports and the arts, with a rich array of extra-curricular activities on offer to all year groups .The musical drama productions and sporting achievements are particularly impressive and indicative of what our students can achieve beyond the curriculum. The dedicated and committed staff at QEGS bring out the best in every student. Students are presented with many opportunities and encouraged to be aspirational in everything they do. All staff work closely with parents to ensure that students get the right level of challenge and support to flourish. Additional support is always available through our excellent pastoral system, where necessary. The school has been graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted at our last inspection, but we are never complacent about this and are constantly striving to raise expectations and achievement, for all members of our community. Tradition is important at QEGS and our ethos is infused with the traditional values of respect, honesty, responsibility and self-discipline. At the same time we are preparing our students to excel in the 21st century with its many and varied challenges. We make effective use of the latest technology and are constantly developing our learning resources and pedagogy. A new suite of classrooms for the Modern Foreign Languages Department opened last year, for example, with the latest interactive facilities to aid student learning. Queen Elizabeth Grammar School is a thriving community where every student is valued and every student succeeds. If you would like more information, or to arrange a visit, please contact the school.

The City Of Edinburgh Music School

Edinburgh

One year ago today, we were not sure how we would be delivering educational experiences for our students. Two years ago, the situation was even worse as we were not sure whether we would be able to offer anything meaningful at all in person. The relative normality of this year’s first day of school brings reassurance and joy. So far it seems that everyone has grown over the summer, and our returners look more confident and poised than they did six weeks ago. No doubt they have many stories to share, much better in person than through the various social media platforms that they have been inhabiting. Our new S1 students are excited about starting this new phase in their lives. A few have had to ask for directions to classes, but good for them that they have the confidence to do so. They will bring much to the future of our school and in the blink of an eye they will be in S6 preparing for the next phase. Being Part of the Community The vast majority of our students are showing their pride in being part of the Broughton High School community by wearing school uniform and dress code. That is part of their contribution to their school, and is most welcome. I would emphasise that although school uniform is much less expensive than the designer clothing that teenagers might choose to wear, we are keen to support families who are struggling with the cost of clothing. The best way to access this is via our guidance team, through either a direct phone call or an email to school reception. Academic Success More detailed information will be forthcoming, but I am absolutely delighted to share that the attainment gained by our S4-S6 students last year was outstanding. Despite the many challenges that they had to face, they contributed to the best set of SQA results that the school has ever seen. Better than the exam-free years of 2020 and 2021. Better than any year since statistics have been recorded in the current format. This is particularly remarkable, given that the national pass rates have actually declined this year. This level of academic success is not just down to ability but comes as a result of many factors: hard work and resilience; support from parents and carers; and untiring high quality teaching and regard from staff are some. A massive well done from me and the whole school staff to those young people. Senior Staffing News We welcome Mrs Lisa Evans to our school senior leadership team. Mrs Evans has been a curriculum leader in another Edinburgh school for the past eight years, and was previously an English teacher at Broughton. I am delighted that Mrs Evans is back in the Broughton HS family and we look forward to great things. Recently we also welcomed Mr Steven Frew back to Broughton HS after a few years as a curriculum leader in East Lothian. Mr Frew joined us just before the end of the summer term in the role of Senior Development Officer. One of his key roles is to explore the diversity in our school community and make the most of the opportunities that this provides. This will be fascinating and will provide further impetus to cohesion and success in our school. Mr Frew was also previously with us as a Business Education teacher. It speaks volumes for Broughton HS that staff who have progressed in their career are keen to re-join us further down the line. I am pleased to inform you that Mrs Shona Wallace, Depute Headteacher, has been appointed on an acting basis to the Headship of Craigroyston Community High School. Mrs Wallace will work hard – as she always does – to support the community at Craigroyston. We wish her well, and look forward to her return in the latter part of the academic year. Finally, I would like to thank our parental community for the support you give to our school. We will keep trying together to make things as good as possible for our young people. Most of the time we get it right, and long may that continue. John J Wilson Headteacher *********** Broughton High School aspires to be a learning community known for its excellent learning and teaching. We maximise student achievement; provide support, welfare and inspiration. We are committed to continual improvement. Our students will be confident, successful and able to contribute effectively and responsibly to society. They should foster an interest in life long learning. We are a consistently improving organisation. Our core values are the same - respect, inclusion and integrity in all that we do. Tolerance and a willingness to learn about other cultures have been at the heart of Scottish education for centuries. By embracing the Scottish tradition and developing through a curriculum for excellence we hope to develop as truly global citizens. Broughton High School is developing as a centre of excellence in the wider community with our business partners and neighbours utilising the building during and beyond the school day. The development of partnership working is important to us and we actively pursue their development. In school, it goes without saying that we provide a secure and healthy environment, but we aim for much more. We aspire to personal excellence at all times. In every classroom, on the playing fields, through every note played in the Music School we aim for the highest standards. These can only be achieved if the whole school community works in partnership.
