After completing her honours degree in Animal Behaviour and Biomedical Science, Karen went on to complete an advanced diploma in Practical Aspects of Companion Animal Behaviour and Training through COAPE. Karen is also a member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers. All members of the APDT are assesed and train under a strict code of practise because they believe in modern, kind and gentle methods. This offers pet owners a guarantee of quality when signing up to a class. Karen feels very strongly against punitive heavy handed methods and believes if we have our dogs as companions and part of the family they should be treated that way. Karen has worked with internationally renowned Sarah Whitehead for 8 years running three of the leading branches of the previously known Alpha Puppy Classes and Pet Behaviour. She also used to be a tutor for Alpha Education OCN accredited courses for new trainers and behaviour counsellors. Now 37, Karen's ambitions and success led her to branch out with her own team of trainers and launched Canine Kids® in July 2009. Karen and her team run training centres in Camberley, Godalming and Farnham area and do one to one training and behaviour councelling through out Surrey, areas of Berkshire and Hampshire. We can travel further if required. Karen has a strong passion for her job and ultimately wants the best for every dog and family that comes through her doors. After gaining her Arts Degree from Sheffield City Polytechnic, Janet set up her silversmithing business in London where she was based for ten years. She moved to Berkshire where she has stayed, initially becoming Jeweller in Residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre and now teaching her own classes in Woodley. She has been making and teaching jewellery for over 40 years and has had the pleasure of seeing her students enjoy learning about jewellery making and some of her students have chosen to go on to run their own jewellery business. Her designs concentrate on form and technique. Flow, texture and carving informs most of her work. She likes her work to be timeless, enhance the body and come to life when worn by the owner. Her work continues to be exhibited here in Britain and abroad, has featured in a variety of publications including Vogue and is part of the contemporary jewellery collection at the Dallas Museum of Art, USA. We hold many different events, where members and potential members can get to know each other, and become involved in all sorts of interesting activities. As a charity that focuses on education and opportunities for women, we are a group of over 8,000 women in Surrey that work together for our common goals. Each WI in Surrey is a member of the Federation and they meet at least monthly to engage in a wide range of interesting activities, including clubs, groups and events. At monthly meetings members enjoy practical workshops and lectures. However, it is important that we also have the opportunity to engage outside of our individual WIs. So as a Federation, we aim to put on events in different parts of the county so that all members have the opportunity to attend. We have a presence at agricultural shows, hold workshops and have two countywide meetings each year in Dorking. Our wide variety of events ranges from literary lunches, a day out in London either for Christmas shopping or for a walking tour with a blue badge guide, fiendish quizzes, cream teas, fashion shows, down to learning new crafts such as portrait painting or willow weaving. Everything is possible and the members are encouraged to send in their ideas for the committees to consider for future events.
