In preparing successful candidates for Pennsylvania Pre-K-12 certification, our Department of Teacher Education faculty not only builds close communities of students through collaborative learning in small classes but also builds partnerships with school communities through collegial dialogue, staff development opportunities, and interactive field experiences. We provide thorough, individualized advising to accommodate the diverse needs of students from the undergraduate program (both bachelor's and associate's degrees) and the Teacher Certification Pathways program. The Teacher Education program serves as a resource for both the college community and the community at large to model innovative educational practices that result in the highest standards of teaching.

Dungannon

"Supporting women's professional and personal development through education and training." First Steps Women’s Centre (FSWC) has provided a unique service to women in Mid-Ulster for almost 23 years. Based in Dungannon, the Centre provides education and training, support and guidance, along with exceptional opportunities and friendship to women across Mid-Ulster. Up to 300 women per year access training across a wide range of vocational areas which is funded under the European Social Fund (ESF) by Department for the Economy and Department for Communities. FSWC works tirelessly to remove barriers to learning and inclusion women experience by providing additional services such as Transport, a fantastic onsite Childcare Facility and a Benefit Checker service which is available to both men and women.

positive parenting project

In 2012 Anita founded The Positive Parenting Project, a social enterprise which aims to bring the benefits of proven evidence-based parenting strategies to as many parents (and children) as possible. Anita started her career in international development, spending four and a half years in Mongolia where she went through both of her pregnancies. (Her eldest son learnt to say ‘mummy’ in Mongolian before he said it in English!). Anita also spent time in Hungary and Kazakhstan. Anita has studied developmental psychology (child development) to postgraduate level and is an accredited Triple P® parenting coach. A leading UK parenting expert, she speaks at events across the country and delivers parenting seminars, webinars and one-to-one support. She is regularly featured as a parenting expert on TV and radio. Fascinated by children and how they develop, Anita has a talent for helping parents view their children and their own parenting strategies from different angles. She is adamant that there is no such thing as a perfect parent and says her ambition with her own children is simply not to make the same mistakes too often. After becoming a single parent, Anita changed careers. She worked as a strategic manager in a local authority children’s services for nine years, setting up and managing early intervention, targeted and specialist family support services including Sure Start Children’s Centres, parent support lines, teenage pregnancy prevention projects and intensive family support.

Swindon

Inner Flame is a local Swindon-based Charity running programmes for young people who find themselves at a disadvantage in Swindon and Wiltshire. The organisation was founded by David Wreathall in 2008. The passion is to give young people the tools and mindset to thrive in their future lives. Our programmes are based around experiential learning; challenging the young people and inspiring them to grab life and run with it. We are probably best known for the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, which is a 12-week full time employability and self-development programme. It’s an incredible programme and can genuinely be life-changing. We have also developed our own Mental Health Programme: Manage Anxiety Your Way. We created this in response to the increased need (even before the Pandemic) for mental health support for young people. This programme is proving to meet a need and the feedback about the impact on young people is powerful. Around these programmes we run shorter programmes to create a full progression route for young people. Success is measured by hard outcomes, such as young people progressing to the workplace, but also by soft outcomes; such as increased resilience, motivation and development of goals and aspirations. At Inner Flame we always start with the individual. Many young people who come through our doors have low self esteem and feel their lives have little value. We show them that they can achieve and help them start their journey.

Sarah found herself having to find schooling for her three young daughters as her family was relocated around the world through work commitments. 1nfluence driver training

Around a quarter of UK drivers are anxious or nervous about one or more aspects of driving, from a few minor wobbles about large and busy junctions, through to an almost complete fear of driving. Lin Webb from 1nfluence Driver Training has experienced anxiety, lack of confidence and PTSD herself in the last 30 years. She uses her unique insight, together with 25 years as a Driving Instructor, to work with you and develop effective coping strategies to help you overcome any driving worries you have.
