Founded in 2016, Breakdown Bolton is a community interest company which is peer led by qualified and experienced artists who have had experience of mental health issues. We work in many different art forms and aim to offer our participants high quality arts classes, exhibition, and cultural opportunities. We do this by promoting high level creativity, individual expression, and empowerment through art, in a safe and positive environment for those across the Greater Manchester region. At Breakdown Bolton we focus on increasing accessibility to art for those with lived experience of mental health and substance misuse issues. We are passionate about breaking down the barriers, stigma and prejudice and raising awareness of these issues. Breakdown Bolton can provide a stepping stone towards further artistic development for a person whose education, employment, and creative practices have been interrupted by poor mental health or substance misuse issues. At Breakdown Bolton we have a diverse range of skills within the team which we use to develop and deliver projects of the highest quality. We are professional artists educated at University level, having had visual artwork and writing published and commissioned. Our members have been awarded both individual and collective grants from bodies such as the Arts Council and are Unltd Alumni. In 2017, Breakdown Bolton was nominated for a National Diversity Award. Since then, we have been recipients of a New Art Space through Castlefield Gallery, worked closely with NeoArtists in Bolton, and have forged strong working partnerships with regional arts education organisations such as theatres, galleries, and local community services.

I am delighted to have been appointed as CEO of Education Impact Academy Trust from 1st January 2022. I will be building on the great work of my predecessor, Steve Hughes. It is an exciting, but challenging, time for all of us working in this area but I know that by working together, we can make great things happen. Our purpose is to provide a wonderful education and improve the life chances of all the children and young people in our Trust. We will ensure that our children and young people are given a broad and balanced education which prepares them well for success in their future lives. We provide strong challenge and support to our Academies and work together in our aim of ensuring success for all. As a Trust we truly value the success of every child and young person and we place the sharing of excellent education practice at the core of this value. Professional development, challenge and support are at the heart of ensuring our staff can all reach their own personal bests for the benefit of the children and young people. Our Trust benefits significantly from the variety of schools within the Trust, enabling staff to benefit greatly from the opportunities we have for collaborative working. In addition, we are able to benefit tremendously from sharing best practice and the expertise we have within our organisation. ABOUT ME A Leadership Coach With A Difference I'm now an ICF accredited individual, group and team coach. But that isn't how I started out in life! I'm also a PhD research scientist and I've spent 16 years working in and leading academic and pharmaceutical drug discovery research teams. Most of that time I was thriving, but I reached a turning point where I often felt like I didn't fit, and I didn't know why. In part of my role I felt I was valued and doing well, but in another part I was constantly told to do things a different way and everything felt difficult and frustrating. So when I got the opportunity to train as a coach I jumped at it! Very quickly I realised I had a special talent for coaching. I was surprised to discover that a lot of apparently confident senior leaders struggled at work. and that I was able to help them in a way they had never experienced before. Even in those early days of coaching my clients commented on my calm, relaxing presence that made them feel they could be themself in our sessions and discuss things they never normally shared. The training also involved a lot of self development and group work, which helped me to figure out my situation. I started to understand why I wasn't happy in part of my job, yet loved the other part. A big part of this was discovering the concept of flow.

We take pride in building strong relationships with students and their families. We have a long history of providing exceptional education to young people. We were founded in 1880 as Prendergast Grammar School for Girls on a site in Catford provided by the Leathersellers’ Company, which then funded the school’s move to its current site in 1995. We are now part of the Leathersellers’ Federation of schools, a group of three secondary and two primary schools as well as Prendergast 6th Form. We are very fortunate to be part of the Federation and receive a lot of support from the Leathersellers’ Company, that helps our students succeed. We are very proud of our last Ofsted judgement of Outstanding in all areas, our third Outstanding judgement in a row. We are described in the most recent report as ‘exceptional’ and having ‘exemplary attitudes to learning’ across the school. We do achieve great academic results at Prendergast School (more information is on the website). However, as a parent or carer you also want to know that your child is happy and safe. This is very important to us and we pride ourselves that students feel confident in school and thrive under our care. It is important that when students leave after their time with us that they do so as well-rounded individuals who have had many different experiences, able to overcome challenges and most importantly to learn from their mistakes. It is important that students get involved in school life as much as possible. We have a wide range of extra-curricular activities and we do encourage all students to get involved. We expect all students to attend school journeys. Communication is very important to us. We always like to know what we do well and what we can improve on further. We ask students and families to get in contact with us if there is something that they would like to ask or raise with us.
