Garforth Academy mainly serves the community of Garforth with some pupils travelling further to school from communities such as Micklefield, Kippax, Colton, Whitkirk, Swillington, Aberford and Crossgates. Whilst the majority of pupils live within walking distance we do have a broad intake of primary schools with current year 7 pupils coming from 27 primary schools. The Key Stage 2 APS on entry is broadly in line with national average but some year groups are slightly below national average on entry. The academy is larger than average, and has around 300 pupils per year group in Key Stages Three and Four with a large 6th form in excess of 400 pupils. We serve a diverse community and whilst a large proportion of pupils come from affluent backgrounds, some pupils live in areas containing pockets of deprivation, characterised by high unemployment, an inadequate employment base, low average income levels, poor physical and mental health and a degraded urban environment. It is therefore important that our curriculum meets needs the needs of all learners from a wide range of backgrounds. The proportion of disadvantaged pupils is below the national average (16% v 29%) as is the number currently in receipt of Free School Meals (7% v 12%). Pupils within the academy are mainly White British, with only 2.7% of pupils having EAL. The number of pupils with an EHCP is 1.3%, and a small number of pupils requiring behavioural and emotional support attend The Elland Academy in Leeds, which is a registered Alternative Provision within Delta Academies Trust. We serve our local community and work closely with partners to plan a set of learning experiences that meet the needs of our pupils. In addition, we use local, national and international labour market intelligence to plan courses to best prepare our young people for life beyond school. We have the highest standards and expectations for all pupils and we strive to provide a curriculum that respects the needs of all pupils as well as one that encourages young people to seek continuous development and improvement.

The HSA is an independent registered charity, founded in 1911. It is the only UK charity concerned exclusively in the promotion of the humane treatment of all food animals worldwide in markets, during transport, at slaughter, and killing for welfare reasons and disease control. Growing numbers of people are interested and concerned about the welfare of the animals that provide them with food and the HSA has gained an international reputation for providing practical, science-based solutions to improve food animal welfare. The objectives of the HSA are: The promotion of humane methods of slaughter; The introduction of reforms in livestock markets (including transport facilities) where needed to prevent the suffering of animals. The HSA works to achieve these through providing: Technical information and advice on all aspects of animal handling, transport and slaughter. Training and education in humane methods of handling and slaughter of livestock for farmers, vets, abattoir staff and students. Technical and educational publications in a range of formats. Independent advice to governments, animal welfare organisations and the food industry worldwide. Visits to farm animal handling and slaughtering facilities, recommending and advising on improvements where necessary. Funding and support for essential research and other projects aimed at improving animal welfare during transport, in markets and at slaughter. Assistance with development and application of scientific advances into the working practices of the meat industry. The HSA's work has resulted in many significant improvements for food animals around the world and many of the reforms it has promoted in transport, markets and slaughter are now taken for granted. Significant improvements continue to be achieved through working constructively alongside agricultural, meat industry, veterinary and other welfare and professional organisations. Together we can make a difference The HSA relies on donations, subscriptions and legacies. David Good - Clinical Manager / Podiatrist david good David Good Clinical Manager / Podiatrist BSc (Hons), MRCPod, HCPC Reg, MFPM RCPS (Glasg) Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council Member of the Royal College of Podiatry Member of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow David Good graduated from Southampton University with an honors degree in podiatry. He has been with the practice since 2005. As well as general podiatry foot care, he is able to bring to the practice a variety of other podiatry disciplines including Nail Surgery, Sports Injury, and Biomechanical/Gait Analysis having done research in the area of the latter. High on David’s agenda is communication with the patient, which ensures best practice and patient understanding. As well as operating clinics at our Weybridge site, David also has his own business offering a home visiting service in the Camberley area called Goods Podiatry and Footcare. Tristan White - Senior Podiatrist tristan white Tristan White Senior Podiatrist BSc (Hons), MRCPod, HCPC Reg, MFPM RCPS (Glasg) Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council Member of the Royal College of Podiatry Member of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Tristan has been a part of The Footcare Centre team since 2009; qualifying from the University of Brighton with an honors degree in Podiatry. He brings an enthusiastic, professional, caring, and modern approach to Podiatry and our team. Tristan has a keen interest and focus on the Biomechanics aspect of Podiatry, particularly with regards to the biomechanics of cycling. In addition to this, Tristan is able to offer a variety of Podiatric services; including Nail surgery, Verruca treatments in addition to general Podiatry and Chiropody. Of particular importance to him, is the continued professional development of his knowledge and skills. Tristan splits his time with his own practice in Staines as well as working here at The Footcare Centre.

Recently we asked TLP to deliver a series of masterclass sessions for our KOL’s. The topic for this is Business Case Planning and the response has been fantastic. The 4 days we arranged were fully booked almost immediately! The engagement by our KOLs has been incredible and they have genuinely learned lots about a topic which the NHS does not provide much, if any, training in. The masterclasses are structured so that each participant gets to apply the theory to his or her own real-world situation and this has been a real eye opener for our doctors and pharmacists that have attended the programme.
