Forest Sports Education (FSE) is an educational institution based in The Dean Academy Secondary School in Lydney that provides fantastic facilities and a quality learning experience for students, aged 16 and over, seeking a future career in sport. The college specialises in teaching sport courses to its students, which include the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development and the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport programmes. The Level 3 BTEC Diploma qualification is equivalent to achieving 3 A-levels at the end of the two-year course, while the Level 2 course has been put in place to enable learners who do not achieve the acceptance criteria for the Level 3 course to stay in further education and progress their knowledge. After completion of the Level 2 course, students are then able to progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma. Living in Dublin at the time, a work-hard play-hard culture had driven my body and mind to the brink and I regularly experienced panic attacks, depression and became quite unwell with an over-active thyroid – my body had had enough. Deep down even then I knew there was another way but felt stuck in my chosen career at the time. A chance conversation one evening in a pub with a friend opened my eyes to the world of holistic therapies like homeopathy, massage and yoga and a different way of being. I began to consider the prospect of honouring my heartfelt desire to help others. However it wasn’t until I fell pregnant with my first child that I found the courage to try a pregnancy massage and join a yoga class, persuaded by the chance that others would be beginning too. Healing myself came first and is an ongoing journey. Returning to Edinburgh that year I continued pregnancy yoga and massage and I have no doubt that both allowed me to sail through the 9 months inspiring me to go on and train as a bodyworker and leave my career in finance behind. I then spent many years working and learning about bodywork and building a successful niche massage practice supporting expectant and post-natal mums and their families. Some say that the average work-span of a massage therapist is 8 years and that certainly was the case for me. Whilst I was and still am hugely passionate about the benefits of positive touch, my body knew otherwise and it was time for a break from treating bodies in such a hands-on way. This realisation coincided with an opportunity to step back into employment for a while and I spent 3 fantastic years working for Secret Garden Outdoor Nursery founded by Cathy Bache. The chance to step into such a fabulous social enterprise was a true gift and allowed my deep love of Nature, which had been lost along the way, to resurface. I had the privilege to take part in a deep nature connection program called Art of Mentoring in 2014 and went on to train as a Forest Schools Practitioner and support young children in their free explorations of natural world. At that time, along with Nature, yoga was the biggest source of support in my life, emotionally, mentally and physically. I returned time and time again to the refuge of my mat to ease the physical and emotional stresses of parenting and life. In 2013, I had the privilege of doing my Foundation Yoga Training with Marc Woolford of Acquaviva Yoga. This year of training based around Marc’s interpretation of the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli really laid the foundations of my daily yoga practice and greatly influenced the style of my teaching today which is gentle yet deep, somatic and very mindful. In 2015 the conditions finally felt right for me to progress onto a full Teacher Training Diploma with Yoga Scotland, one of the most thorough and diverse qualifications in the UK. The loss of a dear friend that year and the deep grieving that unleashed became a transformational stage for me and gave me the push that I needed to step up and allow the Yoga teachings that had supported me so much over the years to be passed on to others. I completed the 2 year (500 hour) course in June 2017 and I'm now living and breathing Yoga and bringing my blend of the teachings out into my local community.

I guess I’m just a “singing nerd” at the end of the day! I love singing, I love listening to other people sing and I love it when people start to truly express themselves through their singing voices with power, presence and confidence. I’ve been singing all my life. I started out singing in a very good, local High Anglican church choir at the age of 7 that exposed me to harmony and counterpoint, Requiems and Latin - all whilst wearing robes and a frilly ruff! I managed to obtain my Bishops’ Chorister Award just before my voice broke, before moving to the Alto and then finally the Tenor sections of the choir. At this stage my ear was drifting away from classical choral singing and more towards Soul, RnB and Gospel (thanks Whoopi Goldberg and Sister Act!) As a Gospel Singer, I sang with the Liverpool Love & Joy Gospel Choir for many years, touring all over the country from small town halls to football stadia - I had truly fallen in love with this very expressive and emotive art form, and eventually set up Sanctified Gospel Choir who went on to win a Gospel Entertainment & Music (GEM) Award in 2005. I managed to gain a place to study music at the prestigious Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) which was set up by former-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, and graduated with honours in 2003. During my time studying at LIPA, I had the opportunity to sing and perform with a vast array of talented artists and performers and fell into providing backing vocals for a number of different main-stream artists of the time. Having discovered over time that I really enjoyed singing backing vocals, was happier with my back to an audience directing as opposed to standing in the spotlight, it was no surprise to me that I ended up gravitating towards teaching singing as a side hustle. And that’s what it was, a side hustle, I had no clue what I was doing and that’s when I fortunately discovered the Speech Level Singing methodology or SLS. Upon completion of my initial SLS training, I was then also invited to Lecture in Vocals at LIPA and taught there for 12 years in total, teaching one-to-one and group singing classes to the students on the Music, Acting and Dance degree and foundation level courses. After achieving Level 3 status within the SLS organisation, I wanted to broaden out my knowledge of vocal pedagogy, vocal harmonics and acoustics, and along with a number of other teachers from around the world came together under the guidance of Dave Stroud to form what is now known as Vocology in Practice or ViP. Shortly after helping to found ViP, where I served as Education Director for a year, I obtained my MA in Music from the University of Salford, where I focussed my studies on the Psychology of Performance and the condition, "Adophobia" (literally the Fear of Singing), on which I wrote extensively for my thesis. I work hard to keep myself informed on the latest pedagogical research and developments within in the world of vocal health and how to teach to ensure that I can provide the very best for my clients. I’ve also recently started training in Laryngeal Massage so that I can bring this highly beneficial manual therapy to the my clients. Highlights of my career to date include being a Lecturer in Singing at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and helping to establish and teach on the singing program on the BA(hons) in Musical Theatre at the Institute of the Arts Barcelona. I have also been fortunate to train voices at Rare Studios in Liverpool. I arranged and directed the backing choir on the 2012 UK Christmas No.1 song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" on behalf of the Justice Collective, for which I was awarded a Gold Disc. Aside from my teaching studio, I am the choral director for the Liverpool Community Choir, training the lead voices for the Birkenhead Operatic Society and have recently started training voices for the Pro Vocal Artist artist development program. Over the last ten years or so, my career has taken me down the path of teacher training and I am fortunate to train teachers for two organisations; BAST (Be A Singing Teacher), where I am one of only 5 teacher trainers in the world, and MVT (Modern Vocal Training), the latter of which I serve as an Educational Director. I absolutely love training new teachers; I find it to be really invigorating, plus it keeps me accountable and makes sure that I’m keeping abreast of the latest developments in my field.

The Institute of Psychosynthesis has trained Counsellors, Psychotherapists and Coaches for almost 50 years within a unique psychospiritual Psychosynthesis framework and within the context of Serving Humanity in Transition, as we stand before great change. We have been validated since 1996 by our partner Middlesex University for our MA programmes. The pandemic caused us and many others to re-think how to deliver our training, to be creative in delivering what we know worked as an in person training, in a new and equally captivating and evocative way online. Our experience during the pandemic was key to the creation of our new Distance learning validation for our MA Programmes in Psychosynthesis Psychology as well as in Psychosynthesis Leadership and Organisational Coaching. And there is no requirement for an undergraduate degree to join our MA programmes as we assess suitability on life experience and an ability to self-reflect.
