The College’s founders have more than 25 years combined expertise in education generally, and distance learning (also known as home study) in particular. Few distance-learning establishments have more experience at a “hands on” level; we’ve all been tutors and assessors in the sector for many years. Heavy investment in state-of-the-art technology has typified the College’s development, particularly in its more recent history. Our systems are second to none, and make your learning experience as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible. The College provides more than 120 courses across 5 faculties, successful completion of which result in nationally recognised qualifications listed on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF), or certification for specialist bespoke (unregulated) qualifications. Most are endorsed or accredited by some of the UK’s most prolific Awarding Organisations. The college’s students come from all walks of life, and undertake the courses for a wide range of reasons, including career enhancement, continuous professional development (CPD), and studying purely for fun to expand their existing knowledge of a hobby or stimulating subject. Joanne Tinley has been making her own jewellery for as long as she can remember and left her first career as a school teacher to set up business as a  jewellery designer and tutor nearly 20 years ago. She is self-taught and like many people started with wire and beads. Learning how to solder, however, opened up a whole new world of jewellery making,  one that she is keen to share! Joanne teaches regular jewellery making workshops in her Southampton studio, offering courses for beginners upwards. When Broughton Public School opened in 1896, the motto chosen for it was Sic Itur Ad Astra (rough translation: Reach for the Stars!). I think the School Board in those far off days chose that motto wisely. They may not have dreamt of emails and websites, but they were certainly forward thinking enough to realise how appropriate it would continue to be in the twenty-first century. It very neatly encapsulates our philosophy, which is to encourage in all our pupils the belief that they can achieve anything in life as long as they put their minds to it. I am a firm believer in the importance of the partnership between school and home and the role it plays ensuring a high quality education for all pupils. Therefore I hope that we can work with our families within a climate of trust and mutual respect to ensure the highest possible learning experience for our pupils. My own healing journey started in 2012 after period of the dark night of the soul. I felt lost, depressed and dissatisfied for a number of years. Finally, I decided to work with various Coaches, Therapists and Healers who helped me gain a better understanding of what I was going through and they helped me accept my past, resolve my wounds and traumas. Determined to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life, I embarked into more Soul searching, inner work, personal development and spiritual growth. As I let go of my limiting beliefs and released my difficult emotions-anger, sadness, shame, fear, hurt and guilt, I felt more empowered and was ready to help and support others on their healing journey. I now know that my personal challenges was a wake up call…a Spiritual awakening. In the healing process, I reclaimed my Power, Purpose, Potential and Passion! Born and brought up in a Hindu family, I understand traditions, rituals and follows spiritual practices as part of my upbringing. Now I live in South London with my husband and children and enjoy yoga, meditation and spending time in Nature.

Kathryn is qualified to Level 3 in Chocolate Tasting with the International Institute of Chocolate and Cacao Tasting (IICCT)  and is also a teacher on their introductory and Level 1 course and is the Level 2 Course Lead.  Through Cocoa Encounters, Kathryn individual and group tutoring, workshops and tasting experiences and will soon be launching an Introduction to Fine Chocolate on demand online course.  For primary schools, curriculum-based workshops are available for schools in Lincolnshire.
