Nearing the end of his undergraduate degree at Oxford University, our Director, William Humphreys, reflected on the life-changing opportunities that had been afforded to him, and the countless avenues now open ahead of him, as a result of his time at Oxford. Affected profoundly by the transformational effect this place and this education had had on his life, he started discussions with his brother and Co-Director George about how these same opportunities and experiences might be offered to students looking to make decisions about their own futures. George and William opened the first ORA summer school in 2005, made up of 35 students, a number of whom are still in touch with us and each other today! That summer was full of academic energy and progress, friendship, cultural expansion, and fun! It became clear that the opportunity to use summer holidays to learn in an entirely different way from school was both exciting and inspiring to students from all over the world. Energised by the opportunity to bring something new to the world of education, our most popular courses were born and aptly named ‘New Perspectives’ and ‘Broadening Horizons’. We build and retain close relationships with our students and their parents, listening carefully to their experiences and ambitions. These relationships have become an important driver of our growth and we are always thrilled to hear from alumni about the paths they have taken and the successes they have enjoyed. Of course 2020 was not part of anyone’s plan. In 2007, at the age of 22, David Duncan gave up a secure job in the IT industry and took the first steps to make an old dream come true. David has always had a strong creative streak; from helping his grandmother bake and decorate the most beautiful cakes in her kitchen when he was a little boy, to sculpting in clay in his school’s art department – the seeds were sown that would eventually grow into the highly successful and award-winning 3D Cakes. From a humble start in 2005, making spectacular wedding cakes for friends and friends of friends in his kitchen, things accelerated quickly to an ever-expanding business. David is now one of Europe’s most renowned cake designers, most famous for his fashion-inspired cakes. David and his team have been honoured to design and create cakes for HM The Queen, HRH The Prince of Wales, J.K Rowling, Prince William, Bon Jovi, Crowded House, and high profile brands including Dior and Chanel. 3D Cakes Edinburgh won the VOWS (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier) ‘Cake Designer’ Award in 2008 & 2009. In 2010 a selection of 3D's wedding designs featured in the summer issue of VOGUE magazine in the UK. Later that year, David changed his focus to a previously unfounded niche in the UK market – creating realistic sculpture cakes. In 2011, the company's fashion inspired designs were showcased at Copenhagen Fashion Week. In 2012, David expanded into the field of cake master classes, with 3D Cakes having tutored in excess of 32,000 students to date at the David Duncan Sugarcraft School. A highlight of 2012 was creating a giant cake (a map of Scotland) for Holyrood Palace depicting HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Tour Route. In April 2013, the team created a cake for the Royal Yacht Brittania’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, with the cake being displayed on board the Yacht, in the magnificent State Dining Room. In September of that year, David was honoured to design a cake for Prince William, whom gifted the cake to Yao Ming for his birthday and rhino conservation work. In December 2017, the 3D Cakes Edinburgh team were honoured to create a replica of HMS Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier which David presented to HM The Queen at the commissioning ceremony for the ship in Portsmouth. 2018 saw the David Duncan Masterclass Tour begin in Copenhagen, with future tours planned for Paris and Milan. I have developed arts and cultural strategy for local authorities, been responsible for the development and successful delivery of large arts and cultural events and I have advised national agencies on the development of strategic resourcing and programming, to encourage the widest possible engagement and impact from investment. I am passionate about the role that the arts and culture should play in the life of the child and I am determined to help the UK preserve its identity as one of the worlds creative powerhouses. Fostering links for young people with creative industries and ensuring that classroom based activity has a tangible and meaningful link with the world beyond the school gates is of paramount importance. My work across all sectors of education has been to try and bring together a framework of experiences and opportunities, designed to help children and young people translate early educational achievement into meaningful attainment and develop the critical and creative skills vital for their future. Sam Atkins Hi, I'm Sam and have been working within the media and education industry for twenty years. Following a successful career in TV production I was appointed the role of a broadcast journalist with the BBC. Whilst with the BBC (Nations and Regions) I was part of the development team that established the highly successful BBC News School Report and BBC Parachutes programmes working with young people to produce professional level news packages for BBC output. In 2008 I established C1 Media Ltd, a media in education business, and to date have engaged with over 6500 young people from primary, secondary special, college and higher education sectors. Within my first year of operation with the Arts Service at CfBT Education Trust, we also launched The Young Journalist Academy in 2008. This highly successful education programme provides professional level training for children and young people. Partnerships developed over the years for both the YJA programme and other projects include: The Royal Albert Hall, BBC, English National Ballet, RAF, The Guardian, Cirque du Soleil, National Theatre and Royal Opera House. Sara Bullimore I have been working in the arts and cultural sector for over 20 years and during this time I have developed not only my own professional skills but more importantly, created high quality opportunities for commuities to participate, learn and enjoy the role arts and culture play in our lives. Initiating, delivering and managing a vast range of artistic projects both as an independent freelance arts consultant and in previous roles as the Arts Development Officer at City of Lincoln Council and at National Dance Agencies in Nottingham and London, have helped me to understand the value and critical importance of collaboration and partnership working. In particular my personal passions are literature and dance - I fully believe in the transformative power meaningful participation in quality arts and culture can have on a person's life - regardless of age or ability! I have extensive experience working with mupltiple partners and funders on projects. Working for the City of Lincoln Council I created and managed the Cultural Sector Partnership - working with partners in the private and public sector, heritage, arts and sports to develop strategies, conferences and cross cutting artistic programmes and festivals. I have undertaken and continue to work independently with Lincolnshire County Council, Writing East Midlands, Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage, Shakespeare Schools Festival, Kazzum Theatre Arts, University of Lincoln, Lincoln Business Improvement Group and Arts Council of England to name a few. Living in Linclonshire I am passionate about helping to esnure that connectivity exists between national and regional activities - helping to promote the best connectivity between opportunities and links between organisations.

Educafe CIC receive Adult Education Budget (AEB) funding from Local Authorities / the Department for Education via the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to support the delivery of education to adults over the age of 19 years from local authority. To receive the funds the service must comply with the ESFA Funding Rules which state we have to collect certain data from you when you enrol upon a course, draw up an individual learning plan or complete post-course evaluation forms/surveys. We collect “special category” data in respect of any learning difficulties or disabilities you have in order to make sure that we can make adjustments for you to learn effectively. We only use this data for that purpose, and it is only shared with the express purpose of ensuring you can access learning that is in line with the requirements of The Equality Act 2010. We are required to collect and process this data as a condition of receiving funding under SFA funding rules. The data may be also be used to carry out research on the impact of the courses and/or promote other courses or learning opportunities. Who will see your data? Your data will be seen by the Educafe, the local authority and authorised employees in the community learning service. If it is used for marketing and research purposes it may also be seen by third party organisations contracted by Educafe CIC to carry out this role. The ESFA reserve the right to access these records as part of any audit they undertake in order to satisfy themselves that learners exist and the funding is being used in accordance with the ESFA Funding Rules. We are legally processing your personal data through your contract (the enrolment form) to attend an Adult Education Budget funded course. This part of the processing is necessary to provide you with the service you have requested. Educafe CIC is working with local authority Community Learning services acting in the public interest. As such, some processing will take place for these purposes. There is also a legal basis for the processing we undertake, as the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 requires the School to create and maintain a unique learner number (ULN). You are under no obligation to give the School permission to use your data for marketing and research purposes, it’s your choice. This is clearly marked on the enrolment form as an “opt-in”. If you don’t wish to be contacted, simply leave the relevant boxes blank. If you opt-in and subsequently decide you don’t wish to hear from the School in the future, just let us know by responding to the emails you receive – we’ll remove you from the distribution list. How long will your data be kept? You have a number of rights when it comes to the data we hold about you. These are detailed on our request form that also allows you to make a request for us to take action about something. Data will be kept for a maximum of 5 years. How is your data stored and processed? All your data is put on Educafe’s Records system, which is a secure database and management information system. Your paper records are initially stored securely in locked filing cabinets at either Educafe CIC or at the local authority. Transfer overseas Your data will not be stored or sent outside of the UK.

A new MCRMA guidance document GD39 Sustainability and durability of metal roofing and cladding systems focuses on sustainability from a ‘fabric first’ approach where the metal building envelope provides a long-lasting solution which can be future proofed for potential changes of use of the building. As there is a natural split between sustainability and durability topics the MCRMA guidance document is published as a suite of eight standalone sections each of which covers specific but interrelated subjects, including sustainability background, zero avoidable waste, environmental assessment methods, durability, life cycle/whole life costing, products and components. Advice Note AN 06 Safe working practices on roofs: the distinction between ‘walkable’ and ‘non-fragility’ has been produced to remind all those involved in roof work construction that they have a responsibility to be aware of the most up to date advice on safe working practices and also to be compliant with the legal requirements. Guidance document GD 32 Self drilling fastener installation tools explains that screw guns are an installer essential when working in roofing and cladding construction, as they ensure that the optimum mechanical performance of a self-drilling fastener is obtained, guaranteeing the integrity of the building envelope. Impact drivers should not be used! Their repetitive impact action can lead to drilling failures, reduce the fastener pull-out performance, and damage the coating or strip the moulding on the fastener head.
