Bauer Academy was founded by Courtnay McLeod, a news broadcaster and academic, in 2014. Courtnay had seen that traditional education was in many instances failing employers and learners. She set up the Bauer Academy inside Bauer Media, initially to create a talent pipeline for Bauer’s multi-platform media business in the UK. The Bauer Academy grew rapidly, launching partnership programmes with The Big Lottery, The Rank Foundation, the European Social Fund, and The Prince’s Trust, amongst others. The learners on these programmes are given access to Bauer Media’s experts and resources to learn practical skills like content production and creative writing, as well as all-important employability training. In 2016, The Bauer Academy was accepted on to the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers. Apprenticeship Standards can be introduced to develop and increase skills in existing employees as well as new entrants, and our team have developed a smart, flexible and collaborative delivery model that has changed the language of Apprenticeships. The Bauer Academy’s work on diversity was featured in an Ofcom report and video, and has been showcased at an event we hosted at Westminster for MPs and leaders in education. My background is in social justice work and capoeira Angola, the combination of which has taken me to complete a PhD in anthropology and to live for several years in Latin America. I came to yoga around 2007 in my early twenties, but it was when I was living in a particularly challenging context, as I accompanied human rights defenders in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, that I developed my own daily yoga and meditation practice. This sadhana (practice) became my inner refuge, and the fire for my resilience, as I witnessed and denounced the injustice experienced by those around me. I honestly felt I would not have been able to deal with some of the situations we experienced, without the inner equilibrium, peace and strength I was able to cultivate daily on my mat. It was this experience, and the desire to make yoga more accessible to many more of the people who could most use these tools for self-and community-care and resilience, that drew me to teach. Following this call, I completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in 2017. In 2018 I participated in two transformative 100hr immersions with my dear friend and teacher, Bex Tyrer, at the Yoga Barn in Bali – Yoga Philosophy and You, and Body Image, Identity and Yoga, which had an emphasis on yoga activism and unwinding the feminine aspects of the practice.

Stone Farm Study Centre is located on the edge of Dartmoor in the heart of the Devon countryside. Set in the foothills of the National Park, the site boasts 110 acres of organic park-land pasture and is an idyllic retreat for children to visit. Among 17th century listed buildings we have a traditional working farm where every morning and evening visiting groups can help with supervised farm jobs - complete with pigs, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, alpacas, a donkey, a pony, 'Hedwig' the African eagle owl and resident sheepdog Baloo there really is something for everyone! Stone Farm also has its own onsite lake where, if lucky, the children will be able to spot local birdlife including ducks, geese, moorhen and kingfishers. When taking a nature walk in the adjoining woodland we often see deer, foxes and badgers. First established in 1992 by two former teachers, Stone Farm Study Centre has welcomed schools for 30 years and we understand the educational, physical and emotional benefits school visits offer. We have attempted to create a Study Centre which we would want to visit ourselves and an environment in which every child can flourish and grow. We work closely with every school to ensure our on-site activities, and the excursions you choose in the local area, incorporate and complement the curriculum of each year group. Set up specifically and exclusively for primary schools, we welcome KS2 groups from across the country for 3 or 4 night visits.

I am a mixed media textile artist based in Southsea. I have an interest in exploring narrative through textiles, using mixed media collage to create fabric books, art quilts and collections of themed illustrations. I am also interested in journaling and telling personal stories through collections of memories, data and photographs. My background is a combination of art and design practices - I studied Illustration at Kingston University before becoming a secondary school textiles teacher. I combine the two disciplines to create fabric artwork with an illustrative quality and narrative. For example I often use song lyrics and quotations as starting points, and text features in most of my artwork. Whilst studying illustration I specialised in creating whimsical collages from sketches and paper ephemera and I bring the same techniques to textiles, layering fabrics, stitch and embellishments to create mixed-media mini-quilts and fabric books. I love to work to a specific theme and take on long projects focusing on one topic. This might turn into a series of Illustrations (The World of Jane Austen), a fabric book (Into The Woods) or a single large piece built up over time (Lockdown Quilt). A lover of bright colours and bold prints, I draw inspiration from 1960s and 70s children’s books, psychedelic music posters and vintage textiles. I am very lucky to have a studio on the seafront in Old Portsmouth which is open to the public.
