Prepare for an exciting career as a licensed barber. The program is 1000 clock hours in length, which can be completed in as little as eight months of full-time attendance. At the beginning, approximately 450 hours of the program is devoted to technical instruction, which consists of various learning activities in a classroom and barbershop. Students learn the fundamentals of Haircutting, Hair Color Theory, Hairstyling, Shaving, Gentlemen’s Facials, and Infection Control. Once the basics of the novice curriculum are complete, students advance to core training and can start working with clients. The balance of the program time is devoted to advanced practical operations, in which students develop and practice barber skills under the supervision of licensed instructors. After completing the barbering program at Coba Academy, you’ll be qualified to apply for the California State Board licensing examination and become a licensed professional. After enjoying an international athletics career that spanned over 10 years and culminated in a European bronze medal at 800m, I felt a strong desire to want to give back. The happiness and enjoyment I find in being active and eating healthily, plus the psychological growth that comes hand in hand with pushing your limits is something that I love to try and share with and nurture in others. Since retiring from professional athletics in 2012, I have set about doing just that. Using the experiences – both good and bad – from my career, I have passionately ploughed my energies into developing TrYumph in Life. Ever since I was young I have had a huge passion and love for sports! Whether it was kicking a football around in the garden with my brother or playing cricket on the school fields, there isn’t a sport I haven’t played! I joined TrYumph as a coach after the last few years teaching primary PE. As a professional athlete myself, I know the importance of helping the kids learn skills and have fun during there sporting journeys and I am passionate about helping them to get off to a good start!

With a background in Drama, Alastair's Teaching career spans some 16 years, he has worked in many different educational settings , including Autistic Units , SLD Schools and MLD Schools , before settling into a long term stint at a PRU. Alastair worked for eight years as senior teacher in a Pupil Referral Unit for a London Borough. He dealt with pupils excluded from mainstream school, primarily because of emotional and behavioural difficulties. He was responsible for developing and running anger management and social skills groups in mainstream schools for pupils at risk of exclusion. For many years he has run courses for teachers and practitioners as well as children and adolescents. Alastair is an advanced tutor for restraint, qualified through ‘Team Teach’.
