What is the managed learning programme? This is a package course that has been developed by Logic Certification Limited (LCL) and is recognised by the gas industry’s Standard Setting Body (SSB.) It is a route for experienced trades to learn, develop and build a portfolio within the gas industry. Once this MLP is completed, candidates can then move on to the new entrant ACS assessment, allowing them to be on the Gas Safe Registration. Course Duration: 8 weeks (plus the time taken to complete portfolio) Pre-Requisites Candidates must know how to install hot and cold-water pipework and fittings competently and have 2 years experience in a related trade and/or a recognised qualification. What is gained from this gas course? Upon completion of the MLP, candidates will receive a competence certificate for the range of technique elements, they will also receive an industry recognised MLP training certificate for Logic Certification. Once the MLP is successfully completed, candidates can take the ACS assessment – we can add the ACS assessment to this course for a discounted fee.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of electrical safety and a systematic set of principles for assessing and managing electrical safety in any business and across all sectors of industry and the public sector: the subject is universally applicable, across industries and countries. The course is applicable to the buildings, facilities, equipment and environments associated with a wide range of organisations, irrespective of size, which includes the industrial, commercial and the public sectors. The course provides practical guidance to enable individuals and their organisations to have a level of knowledge and understanding to manage the risks associated with an electrical system. It will focus on providing a specific procedure for managing electrical safety. The course follows the structure of the IET’s Code of Practice for Electrical Safety Management. The aim of the Code of Practice for Electrical Safety Management is to provide good practice guidance to enable individuals and their organisations to have a level of knowledge and understanding to manage the risks associated with an electrical system. There are many technical publications that provide guidance on certain aspects of electrical safety but not in a way that provides a process for managing electrical safety.

It also introduces Safety Culture and discusses the basic fundamentals of incident investigation and analysis. Who is this Level 3 NVQ aimed at? The experienced worker qualification is for practising electricians with at least 5 years experience but have never formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ Qualification. This course aims to equip those involved in forming energy strategies, planning developments, new building projects, refurbishment projects on how electrified heat can be correctly applied. Whilst a major focus of the course is on heat pumps the course also considers other options for electrified heating and what the components are for all these heating system options. The course also details building fabric considerations, electrical system requirements and addresses the issue of using electrified heat to generate hot water for domestic purposes.

Who is this Level 3 NVQ aimed at? The electrical NVQ is designed for those with five or fewer years of experience in the electrical industry, and who have completed their City & Guilds 2365 Level two and three diplomas. Prior to joining, candidates will be assessed on their readiness for the Level 3 NVQ. What does this Electrical NVQ cover? This Level 3 Diploma covers Domestic, Commercial, and Industrial sectors – it will include a range of units of New Installations such as: Health and Safety Overseeing and organising work environment Applying environmental legislation Inspection and Testing Fault finding Professional discussions with assessors AM2 (this is a separate course and has an additional cost.) This is not a training course; it is an assessment of competence. How long does the NVQ take to complete? The length differs for each candidate as it depends on how quickly they take to cover the types of work required to complete all units. If you have been working in the industry, previous jobs can be used as evidence to hurry the process up. What qualifications will I gain? Once candidates have completed their portfolio and other assessments, they will gain a formal City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ certificate. When candidates have completed their NVQ, they must move on to the AM2 end point assessment, which must be completed at an AM2 approved centre, such as our Sheffield centre.
