She is a member of various art and textile groups.She exhibits her work widely and has written a number of articles for both magazines and online sites. She is based in Cheshire and specialises in mixed media textile pieces, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and particularly interested in the way societies created a series of visual symbols to represent the things which were important to them. She investigates myths, legends, stories and beliefs. Join us for a FREE Tea 'N Chat with NICKY SIMPSON who will demo and lead a mini workshop on Surface textiles and talk about her online courses.

Nicky's aim is to show how easily accessible surface textiles techniques can be for every level of student and how it can be delivered in a fun and engaging way.
She will also introduce you to her online and face-2-face courses with an opportunity to ask questions.




JOIN IN THE FUN:

'Marbling'
Marbling is great way of introducing a quick and easy surface technique if you have little to no prior experience. Especially good for students who will get immediate exciting and inspiring results.!
A beginner friendly workshop to produce great artwork for textile projects.

If you want to join in you will need: 
tray of cold water (min 5cm deep)
oil paint 2 colours
white spirit
glass jar and brush to mix/have a cloth for spills and a table cover
pipette 
paper or fabric to marble

Adaptable Textile project using minimal materials - SEND and lower ability focus

Join us for a FREE Tea 'N Chat with Claire Parsons who will will show you how to use fabric scraps to create a range of different outcomes (key rings, cards, hot air balloons) using the same techniques. This allows students to build on skills and confidence whilst making a variety of products. 



MATERIALS NEEDED:
If you want to join in the workshop you will need:

Print out of pattern attached to this email
Calico/scrap material large enough to fit shape of pattern
Fabric strips - these can be cut or torn. 
Enough to cover the calico
Glue stick
Sewing machine with a zig zag stitch
Card to make a card





Claire Parsons:
Claire has been teaching Textiles for 15 years in a range of different schools and settings. Recently she made a life move to a different city and began teaching in a small SEND school. Since starting in January she has had to completely rethink the way she plans, resources and teaches her lessons to a range of different needs and abilities. It has been a refreshing but challenging experience, and she is looking forward to sharing what she has learnt with you.

A great opportunity to discuss the A-Level ESA (Externally Set Assignment) with fellow teachers and how best to approach the themes. We will be using breakout rooms for each board, so that you can network and discuss ideas and best practice.

The session will be lead by Becci Upton and Sarah Newell.
This free event focuses on this year's Externally Set Assignment briefs for the A-LEVEL Fashion & Textiles courses. It is an opportunity for you to not just to learn from others, but also to contribute to a really collaborative environment, where everyone is able to take something helpful back to their respective students and schools. 

We are not specialists in each of the different exam boards and we recommend that you refer to your own board's latest official guidance for the most accurate and up-to-date information. To maximise our time together, we will be organising up to four breakout rooms, for each board AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas. You need to have your ESA briefs accessible, to have already read this and some ideas ready to contribute to the groups collective mind mapping.
This is a precious time for everyone to share experiences and gather inspiration.
