When I first started out after qualifying I very quickly recognised a common denominator in a significant proportion of my clients. So often they were presenting with low self-esteem, self-loathing, a limited ability to be kind to themselves, poor body image and problems with assertiveness tending to use anger as a way of communicating or were easily intimidated/bent against their will. Furthermore, I was working with a lot of clients who were clinically obese or painfully thin and I learnt very quickly that even the ones presenting with normal body weight were often abusing themselves by self-harming, substance abuse and poor diet. This is frequently coupled with difficult, challenging relationships with themselves and others, and they were commonly using food/alcohol/nicotine or other mood-altering substances to self-medicate. These early observations lead me on my first steps along the special interest path of eating disorders. In 2007 I trained as a Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity at The National Centre for Eating Disorders (NCFED) and after qualifying I went on to become a Registered Supervisor. Over the following years through my specialist work, I built a solid reputation of being a caring and approachable therapist. I have an innate ability to very quickly put clients at ease at the same time as getting directly get to the heart of the presenting issues and work collaboratively to get the job done, whilst supporting the individual to move into psychological health and to live the life they deserve to live. After many years of established private practice work I began to turn my attention to an area I had often experienced as lacking when working with clients. Very frequently it became apparent that clients were experiencing a lack of awareness when it came to eating disorders from GPs, general counsellors and other relevant first points of contact. In response to this I began developing training sessions for professionals to begin to bridge the knowledge gap. After several years of running successful training alongside my practice, I have taken the decision to focus largely on the training side of my work. I do continue to supervise the work of practitioners seeking support in the field of eating disorders and people in larger bodies, as well as offering breakthrough sessions for new clients and undertaking family support work.

Whilst a student at the Guildhall, Bethany performed in various concerts at prestigious venues such as the Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Royal Albert Hall and began recording as a soloist and ensemble member with Delphian Records.. Bethany has a portfolio career and when she is not performing onstage, she records sung voiceovers, teaches voice and holds a vocal massage practice. Bethany recently recorded vocals for the national TV advert for Metcalfe's Popcorn, you may also have spotted her singing on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 TV shows such as Jimmy Carr's 8/10 Cats does Countdown and ITV's This Morning. Her singing has been aired and recorded on BBC Radio 2, RTE Lyric FM and Classical FM. Releases on Opus Arte (DVD). Teaching & Vocal Massage Bethany is a qualified laryngeal release practitioner and is qualified in Estill Figure Proficiency. Bethany is experienced in Bel Canto, SOVT and Accent Method Techniques and is always expanding her knowledge on contrasting vocal techniques and styles. She is a fully insured member of Musicians Union. Bethany is based in Olney, Milton Keynes, UK and is a singing tutor at Emil Dale Academy. Bethany holds a small in person private practice at Olney Music School alongside teaching online. Since the covid pandemic Bethany has been able to reach new clients through her informative social media reels on vocal massage and vocal technique. She has been able to teach students online across the world, recently allowing her to hold a pop up coaching and vocal massage practice in France. Bethany has a true passion for teaching healthy vocal technique and guiding her clients towards towards their own musical goals. I have my own therapy space at Essential Space, this is a Communtiy Interest Company that I co-direct offering pay-what-you-can counselling and creative mentoring. I am also happy to see or meet clients for 1-1 and group sessions in GP surgeries, community centres and in schools if required, and hold an enhanced DBS clearance certificate and have up-to-date Safeguarding policies and certificates. I became the founder of A space 2 Be in October 2018, over the last 28 years I have been extending my qualifications and experience to offer both adult and children's Counselling. I began Reflective & Clinical Supervision for staff working with adults in the community and in private practice, and counsellors supporting children, young people, families, and or GSRD clients. I have had counselling myself, this was a time of self-development that set me on a path, I left school and became a health practitioner, working in an institution and completing a college course in Health and Social Care. I specialised in early years and had a placement in a school, this is where I discovered a connection with young people and adults with learning differences. My career went on to working and supporting adults with rehabilitation. After becoming a mum of three children I took on the challenge of managing a well-being centre called the Isbourne in Cheltenham town centre, it was there that I realised how beneficial therapies are for supporting both physical health and mental health. I completed the mental health first aid certificates and began my counselling training. I have supported hidden victims of crime with a charity, Infobuzz. This role introduced me to working in a crisis support team, supporting families in the community and working within the criminal justice system and running creative art workshops in prison. I volunteered with Young Gloucestershire supporting their counselling service and this allowed me to extend my experience to working with young adults who were struggling with life's challenges. My adventures have continued into gaining certificates in 'Stress Less Mindfulness' and running adult sound retreats. I have naturally entwined mindfulness into my personal and professional life and have found the benefits have been endless. I have been able to share these skills with all of my clients as a mindful mindset works for anyone, anywhere and at any age! When I am not with someone in a 1-1 Counselling session, you will find me delivering training to professionals or facilitating sound baths and retreats. Most of my events are therapeutic and developed for deepening awareness with a chance to focus and recharge.

When I came back to the UK, I had the notion that I had to get my chakras sorted out, and found my way to a place called the College of Psychic Studies in London where I did a 2 year degree as a Spiritual Healer. Around the same time I trained to be a Reiki Master, Theta healer, Aura Soma practitioner, and I also made a truly life-changing decision when I found my way to hypnotherapist to Stop Smoking. That 2.5 hour session saw me swapping one addiction for another as I undertook extensive training in hypnosis, then regression therapy and found my passion in helping people to understand and trance-form their subconscious patterns to liberate themselves from old patterns that have been holding them back for years, decades and often lifetimes. And that’s what I do now – my passion – which is helping people like you to be the best version of yourself that you can be, by clearing and releasing the past in whichever way is most beneficial and helpful for you.

CABE Patron Lord John Lytton BSc FCABE (Hon) IRRV FRICS In his role as patron of CABE, Lord Lytton acts as an influential figurehead, creating valuable partnerships with organisations across the globe through his extensive network of industry and Governmental contacts and assisting the Association in raising its profile and influence within the building and construction industry. Lord Lytton is a leading chartered surveyor and an active contributor to the House of Lords. He is chairman of the boundaries and party walls professional panel of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Vice Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment as well as being newly appointed to the House of Lords Information Committee. He has been an Honorary Fellow of ABE since 1997, and CABE since its formation in 2014. Presidential Team Joseph Birt PCABE FCABE – President Joseph Birt worked for 22 years within Local Authority Building Control in various posts; the latter 12 years as Specialist Support Officer for a Cluster of Councils, which included responsibility for advising on fire safety aspects of the Building Regulations. He has been elected twice as Chairman of the Northern Ireland Fire Safety Panel. He has a degree in Fire Risk Engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University. During his studies he also attended seminars at Maryland University and had the privilege of being tutored by some of the most widely respected experts in the fire engineering sector. Stewart began his career in building standards before moving into the warranty sector. He also has recent experience as a site manager. This broad experience has given him a greater understanding of the house building industry from all perspectives. Her remit includes compliance, legal services, HR, OD & change management, IT, facilities, PR & communications, membership processing and deputising for the CEO in his absence. Her experience spans a range of manufacturing, construction and not-for-profit organisations with her first Director position as HR Director for Electrolux in 2004. Jackie has worked across the UK, Ireland and internationally across Europe and Asia managing diverse and multi-disciplined teams. She brings to CABE the senior expertise that will develop the organisation as it moves forward with its modernisation and development strategy. Richard Harral BA BArch FCABE RIBA – Technical Director Richard Harral is the Technical Director for CABE. He has previously worked as an architect in both public and private sector practice, and as a policy official in the Building Regulations Division of MHCLG between 2007 and 2014 where he oversaw introduction of policies on accessible housing, security standards, broadband and the national space standard for new homes. He was subsequently Head of Technical Policy in the period 2014-2017. He currently sits on the CIC Competence Steering Group, and chairs a number of competence working groups including on Designer and Architect Competence. He was Technical author for Flex 8670, the recently published British Standard on Competence for building safety in Built environment industries. Alison Duckles CBE – Professional Development Director Alison has worked in the Construction sector for over 24 years, predominantly with Laing O’Rourke. She previously held roles with the Chartered Institution of Waste Management and Eastern Group plc in the power sector. Predominantly focused on learning and development while driving competence, professional standards, and futures skills requirement; Alison worked extensively on the creation of new construction apprenticeships, engaging employers, providers, sector bodies and Government.
