The experienced staff at DLC Training in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, have been providing high quality, certified safety training courses for over 25 years. Our company was started by a group of instructors who wanted to do something different: focus on smaller, more responsive classes, and provide important, but less popular and underserved courses. As well, one of our key goals was to provide a training environment for students to learn at their own pace. Things have evolved over time. We have taught courses that are near and dear to the hearts of our instructors, and have allowed instructors to develop and perfect their courses and teaching skills. Along the way we tried not to reinvent the wheel. We’ve become certified Canadian Red Cross training partners and work with the Canadian Safety Council to train our defensive driving, babysitting and home alone courses. We maintain high standards by having actual teachers help do the training. Our director of training has 2 Masters of Education degrees. Early on we realized that there was a need for people to be able to acquire their certifications or licensing in many fields. This led us to becoming a partner with Prometric, a world leader in technology-enabled testing and assessment solutions. We have thus created a computer lab to allow for a secure proctored environment. We went one step further and started another lab for others.

My interest in Yoga and Ayurveda began from a young age and was inspired by rituals, ceremonies and ancient Indian approaches to health and healing observed through family customs and traditions. My mother has been an important role model. She is indeed my first healer and teacher. At first, it was my curiosity of this mystical healing art that led me to read and study more. In my teens, I started attending yoga classes with a well rounded practice of asana, pranayama, rest and meditation. Through living and learning Yoga and Ayurveda, I cultivate such precious awareness of mySelf and life around me. Whilst I continue to learn and grow on my own spiritual journey, I delight in sharing what I learn, gain and receive with others. Nowadays, I passionately integrate the two systems of Yoga and Ayurveda and other holistic health modalities to share therapeutic teachings and practices for groups and individuals to meet different health goals, restore balance and regain vitality. FACING HARDSHIP, HAVING TROUBLES, OR NEED INSPIRATION? WE’VE ALL BEEN THERE. The Beating the Odds Foundation was founded in 1990 by Rocco Scalzi, a former Altoona Pennsylvania police officer who managed to re-focus his life after a tragic incident in 1980 during his rookie year. After choosing to turn his life around despite facing many obstacles, Rocco took his message of hope to kids all across the country. He recognized how all children are at-risk to become victims of poor choices and other self-destructive behaviors. And although certain at-risk factors are easy to identify in some youth, it is impossible to predict how everyone will react when faced with hardships. So Rocco’s message to the youth of America focused on the importance of developing a never-give-up attitude. To officially kick off his inspirational organization, Rocco brought 15,000 students to Three Rivers Stadium, then-home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, to hear first-hand how other people had reached their dreams and goals despite the obstacles they faced. The first two individuals who joined Rocco that day were former Pittsburgh Steeler great and Vietnam War hero Rocky Bleier (who now serves as Co-Chairman of the Beating the Odds Foundation) and Vietnam War hero Bob Wieland. Both have remained important members of the Beating the Odds Foundation and still inspire students and adults to never give up.

I offer a helping hand to human and horses based on respect, calmness and safety. I have an open minded view on things and make contact to support without judgement. It often happens that a horse has recovered from an injury and the vet gives green light to slowly pick up the physical work again but how that can be done best, especially with a horse who thinks it can do everything again, is often a challenge. There are a lot of things to think about: what is the physical, mental and emotional situation of the horse at that moment. What does he need in physical work, groundwork or riding to help him recover. I can help you draw up a plan to help your horse become a healthy and happy horse again. Besides my sessions with your horse I will guide you through practical tips and tricks as giving you the tools to help your horse is one of my main goals. Knowing your horse and understanding him really well is not always easy. I can guide you to be more aware of the subtle signs he is giving you as being a better listener for your horse will help you to fine tune your work. By carefully observing and acknowledging these signs I can work on short term visible results with horse and owner.
