The Lemonade Project is an initiative of Shared Health Foundation with the aim of building resilience in young people who are experiencing low levels of emotional wellbeing. It is part of Shared Health Foundation’s wider strategy to improve mental health support for adolescents across Greater Manchester. Our resources and training are perfect to help schools meet new PSHE requirements. Project Overview The Lemonade Project consists of three strands: The Lemonade Resource Book: A range of interactive, engaging activities designed to be used by small groups of young people. It covers six main chapters addressing many of the issues in the ‘Resilience Framework’, for example emotional literacy, self esteem and identity, and dealing with challenge The Tough Times Toolkit: A conversation aid which consists of suggested questions and prompts which can help get to the root of any problems a young person might be experiencing, as well as an informal risk assessment. It also includes ideas for strategies that an adult may want to suggest to a young person to try and help them manage strong emotions. The Life and Lemons Journal: An interactive resilience journal for young people. We believe that the best way this journal can be used is to allow the young person to take it way, use in their own time, and then meet back to discuss any issues that it might have raised in a safe space with a parent/teacher or trusted adult.

In 2018, Dame Tessa Jowell led a call to action on behalf of all brain tumour patients to tackle brain tumours, recognising that too little progress has been made in the treatment of patients with this devastating disease. Lord O’Shaughnessy, the then Undersecretary of State for Health, responded by convening members of the brain tumour community to design a new national strategy. And so, the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission was formed by a group of passionate academics, doctors, members of professional and patient organisations and patients. Today, the national effort has grown in scale and size. The Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission is now a Community Interest Company which manages and supports a national portfolio of several transformational programmes in the areas of research, trials, training and patients. Our work is funded and supported by the NIHR, The Tessa Jowell Foundation, CRUK, The Minderoo Foundation, The Brain Tumour Charity, Brain Tumour Research, Brainstrust, Brain Tumour Support and Act for Cancer. The mission is chaired by Professor Richard Gilbertson (Chair of Board of Guarantors) and led by Dr Nicky Huskens (CEO) on a day to day basis. Please click here to see the full TJBCM team. RCAC is also supporting individuals to become “Community Champions”, as actors and agents of change in their own communities, making a difference for themselves and the wider society. RCAC is managed by a Board (voluntary management committee) made up of representatives from the GRT communities, meaning that community members have a role as decision-makers and are part of the process of shaping the advocacy and rights agenda that RCAC promotes. The Company believes it is essential that the GRT communities be at the forefront of social progress and positive developments in social inclusion, in the struggle or the recognition of GRT rights and promoting inter-cultural understanding. Within Wales and increasingly across the UK, our advice and expertise is sought by local governments, policy-makers, decision-takers and local or national institutions. We are asked to evaluate the effectiveness of their policies and strategies or to support them in consultation to ensure the voice of the GRT communities they serve, is heard. We are part of Portsmouth City Councils Employment, Learning and Skills service. We are fully externally funded with the main source of funding being the contribution which comes through our contract with the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) which we seek to supplement though other sources, such as The Good Things Foundations UK Online Centres. This means that we are able to provide certain courses free of charge, others at heavily subsidised rates and offer reduced fees for those on means tested benefits – see our Curriculum Strategy and Fees Policy for more information. We operate from our purpose built centre; The Learning Place, 6 Derby Road, North End, in Nelson ward and you are welcome to drop-in and see us to find out more. The centre core opening times are 9.00 – 16.30 Monday to Thursday, and to 15.45 Fridays. Our aim is to provide high quality learning experiences for adults living and working in and around Portsmouth. All teaching staff are trained to teach adults, with appropriate additional subject specialism qualifications and are required to complete annual training / professional development. We understand that for some, learning supports leisure and for others it builds capacity and skills, enabling them to get back to work, take a greater role in their community or better support their childrens learning. We therefore try to provide a responsive programme which maximises access to community learning for adults, bringing new opportunities and improving lives, whatever people’s circumstances, such as: Qualification based courses supporting readiness to work / employability including: Functional Skills English, maths and ICT from entry levels up to level 2 Food Safety in Catering Apprenticeships for those aged 16+ New accredited courses are being run regularly. The programme is subject to change and some courses with certain eligibility requirements are not always advertised on our website. We only have a limited budget but we do look to prioritise its use to meet identified demand, so tell us what you would like to learn and why! Many of our programmes can also be delivered in a range of venues, so if you represent a community or organisation and are interested in hosting some courses, let us know that too! In addition to the courses we deliver, a small proportion of our funding is allocated to enable quality contracted providers to be engaged, through a robust procurement process, resulting in a broader community reach. In 2021/22 our current key areas for development are: Work readiness, pre-employment skills including increased business / employer links internally and externally, to particularly support the ongoing development of Apprenticeship programmes.
