We are a Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) accredited centre and our 3 day First Aid at Work and 1 day Emergency First aid at Work courses are all certificated by this awarding body. In addition we can provide tailored courses for groups or organisations and, in the past, this has included everything from courses for outdoor professionals who need a course to fulfil the demands of their work environment to schools just wanting basic CPR training. We are also specialists in training individuals wishing to prepare for their own adventure journeys. Whether your adventure journey is by canoe, on foot or on skis - we can train you to be competent in all these forms of journeying. From a young age In Brazil, I received an extensive music education. I studied piano and clarinet and had experience with orchestra and choir. I loved the connection with my teachers, fellow students, and the music itself. Consequently, I studied conducting at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. I decided to deepen my studies in Europe, focusing on early music and voice which led me to live and work in France and Germany for 11 years. I obtained the Diplome d Etudes Musicales at the conservatorium of Strasbourg (France) and a Master of Music from the University of Trossingen (Germany). My studies included vocal technique and interpretation, historically informed practice, harpsichord, and baroque theatre. I was fortunate to study, and work professionally as a vocal coach, choir conductor, and sang with leading European figures and groups, in the world of early music. In 2016, I returned to Brazil and worked on two important projects: Guri and Anima. Guri is a long-standing very influential institution in Sao Paulo, which offers free music education to disadvantaged children. Anima is a renowned musical group with 30 years of intensive research on the musical imagination of Brazil. I was invited as a soloist singer to record its last CD, Mar Anterior which establishes a dialogue between the Afro tradition of Candomble and Portuguese songs composed by the medieval King D. Dinis.

My name is Louise – I’m an Expressive Writing practitioner based in York. My passion is for writing with people from all walks of life, helping them to express their unique experiences and perspectives. I’m a graduate of the University of Edinburgh (English Literature MA Hons, Literature and Modernity MSc), and the Metanoia Institute (Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes PGDip). I’m a member of Lapidus, the international words for wellbeing association, and recently delivered a well-received presentation at their Creative Bridges Conference with the Metanoia Institute. I have previously spoken to various audiences about my work as an Expressive Writing Practitioner, including Medicine Unboxed: Students, and the Glagow Refugee, Asylum and Migration Network. I’ve recently completed a year-long residency at Edinburgh Headway Group, facilitating a weekly writing group for people with acquired brain injuries. This has culminated in a publication of the member’s poetry, which we hope will be officially launched in the near future! I have also delivered writing sessions for MOOD (Mental health Options for Older adults with Depression) in West Lothian, before relocating to York. When I’m not facilitating writing groups, I can also be found teaching Pilates classes around the city! Though this might seem an odd combination, I find that both provide fantastic tools for mindfulness, self-care and well being.

My interest in Yoga and Ayurveda began from a young age and was inspired by rituals, ceremonies and ancient Indian approaches to health and healing observed through family customs and traditions. My mother has been an important role model. She is indeed my first healer and teacher. At first, it was my curiosity of this mystical healing art that led me to read and study more. In my teens, I started attending yoga classes with a well rounded practice of asana, pranayama, rest and meditation. Through living and learning Yoga and Ayurveda, I cultivate such precious awareness of mySelf and life around me. Whilst I continue to learn and grow on my own spiritual journey, I delight in sharing what I learn, gain and receive with others. Nowadays, I passionately integrate the two systems of Yoga and Ayurveda and other holistic health modalities to share therapeutic teachings and practices for groups and individuals to meet different health goals, restore balance and regain vitality. At Challenge Dyslexia we understand first hand the difficulties and frustrations parents of a dyslexic child face when navigating the educational process. The method of teaching utilised at Challenge Dyslexia follows the ‘Dyslexia Action Literacy Programme’ (DALP) This programme is highly effective and successful in providing targeted specific dyslexia tuition and is delivered in 1-1/ small groups. Lessons are formulated based on the findings of an evaluation carried out within the initial placement sessions. The lessons follow a tailored structured plan of learning points which are delivered through a combination of exercises, activities and games which aim to build and reinforce each learning point. Our aim at Challenge Dyslexia is to engage students by making learning fun with all sessions designed to promote relational learning. The lessons follow a learner led cumulative approach, which is built upon session by session. Due to the negative experiences some students may have previously experienced within the classroom, a major element built into the construct of the lessons is the promotion of learner independence, self efficacy and self confidence, which aim to increase motivation and attitude to learning. In addition to being dyslexia specialists we also have experience and training in a range of therapeutic interventions, so are qualified to address and help break down barriers to learning from this perspective.
