We challenge misleading and harmful messages that can surround child sexual exploitation and other safeguarding circumstances. We offer bespoke training sessions for charities, public sector professionals, faith leaders and families, and workshops for young people.

CEOP pursue those who sexually exploit and abuse children, prevent people becoming involved in child sexual exploitation, protect children from becoming victims of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, and prepare interventions to reduce the impact of child sexual exploitation and abuse through safeguarding and child protection work.

Karen Livesey is a qualified teacher, youth worker and experienced trainer. She began her professional career as a Primary School teacher in London before becoming a Senior Youth Worker and Advanced Practitioner for Lancashire Youth and Community Service. A management post she held for 26 years. With increasing issues identified in child sexual and criminal exploitation, Karen pursued specialist training in child sexual exploitation, safeguarding, modern day slavery and sexual health. She completed Advanced training in Sexual health, Advanced Safeguarding, Adverse Childhood Experience training, Advanced training in Child sexual exploitation, and a PGCE at UCLan in “Leadership and Management in Social Work and Social Care”.

Abi’s background is in youth work and she has collaborated with a number of organisations to develop participatory approaches to working with vulnerable adolescents. She has worked with The International Centre: Researching Child Sexual Exploitation, Violence and Trafficking at the University of Bedfordshire, supporting specialist social care teams in Wigan and Rochdale to implement strengths and participatory approaches to Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). Abi co-wrote training for these teams with Dr Camille Warrington on behalf of Research in Practice. At the University of Bedfordshire, Abi also worked on the LEAP project (2015-17) with Dr Kate D'Arcy. Abi wrote training tools for young people and professionals across Europe, in order to respond to young people's experiences of sexual violence and to support efforts to prevent sexual violence. The three-day youth facilitator training programme is called “Life-skills, leadership and limitless potential" (LLLP). All these programmes provide knowledge and tools to apply participatory approaches to practice with young people.

Nexus has over 35 years’ experience offering a specialised professional counselling service to survivors of sexual trauma. Nexus also provides training and education workshops across Northern Ireland on topics such as consent, relationship and sexuality education, internet safety and child sexual exploitation. Every year in Northern Ireland there are thousands of sexually violent crimes reported to PSNI, and thousands more that go unreported. Without specialists support like ours, victims of these crimes will find it even harder to deal with the trauma they experience. The impact of this trauma can be devastating and is lifelong. From April 2019, Nexus also manage the 24 Hour Domestic and Sexual Abuse Helpline, which is funded by the Department of Health, Department of Justice and the Department for Communities. The purpose of the Helpline is to offer support, advice and referral for any victim of domestic and sexual abuse in Northern Ireland. The Helpline also offers support and advice to those concerned about victims, those with concerns as to whether abuse is occurring and to professionals.

A bespoke twelve-week resilience and anger management programme, for your school. Sessions can be devised to meet your cohort requirements. Our programme supports Y5 & Y6, students who form part of your ‘hard to reach’ cohort, who without preventative intervention may struggle with transition into Y7 and may become at risk of permanent exclusion. Our programme can be tailored for Y7 students to support them further, post transition. Furthermore, we can adapt our programme to engage with vulnerable students who are low in confidence, self esteem and social skills. Week 1 is an introduction to the course to students. Weeks 2 -11 is; A one-hour period of Taekwondo, teaching students the importance of self-discipline and respect, whilst improving self-esteem, confidence and team working skills. A one-hour classroom-based session covering: mental health; mindfulness; sleep hygiene; relaxation & calming techniques; health and well-being; resilience and positive mental attitude. We can also deliver lessons exploring how to be a model citizen, and how to avoid becoming drawn into contemporary youth crime such as: anti-social behaviour; bullying; truancy; knife crime; gangs and substance misuse. We will also deliver lessons covering; parent abuse; internet safety; personal safety; child sexual exploitation (if the school deems appropriate); crime & consequences; and domestic violence.
