A walk in the woods like you have never known! Soul Shed wellness walks have become a popular contribution to Altons Walking Festival, and so we have decided to make them a regular thing. Feel free to share with friends you think might enjoy! These interactive walks are for curious adults, and a gentle way to explore your creativity and to get to know yourself better. On Saturday 13th September we will walk with the story of Hansel and Gretel On Saturday 1st November we will walk with poetry and the spirit of Oak and Willow - brought to life ! This event is by donation, on the day, and funds will contribute towards future walks. I will also bring copies of ‘Take it to the trees’ for sale at £5

Level 1 & 2 Combined Workshop (F2F) Level 1 Workshop is the starting point for your Makaton journey, with Level 2 building on the knowledge you gained in Level 1. It is recommended for people who need to use Makaton at home and in their work, to develop the communication skills of others. Content Level 1 & 2 training provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme and a wider understanding of learning and communication difficulties. The Workshop includes how to start using Makaton in everyday situations; immediate needs, home, familiar people, food, events, activities and objects. You will also discover hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use to maximise communication. Vocabulary will also be introduced which is ideal for the school environment and work places. You will begin to learn more abstract concepts such as spatial locations, attributes, pronouns and actions. Duration Level 1 & 2 combined face to face workshops comprise of a minimum of thirteen learning hours, (minimum of six and a half learning hours per level). Workshops generally will take place over two full day of training. Deliver method: Venue based. Maximum number of participants: 12 Accessibility Please indicate if you have any challenges or additional needs, so reasonable adjustments can be made to support your learning and participation. Entry criteria There is no entry criteria for this Workshop. Study materials You will receive a Participant's Manual, which includes the Makaton symbols and signs that you learn in the workshop. You will also be given a certificate of attendance. Please remember to keep your Level 2 training certificate in case you want to attend further Makaton training. Next steps After completing Level 1 & 2 combined training you can continue on your Makaton journey by attending Level 3 or Level 3 & 4 combined training. Instructions This is a combined Level 1 and 2 course. This venue is within walking distance to Guildford mainline and bus stations. The park and ride stops outside this venue and there are several car parks within a 5 minute walk. Refreshments provided throughout the day and plenty of shops and cafes nearby for lunch. Safeguarding (F2F) The Makaton Safeguarding workshop is designed to support professionals and carers of children and adults with severe communication and learning disabilities. The workshop builds on existing knowledge of signs and symbols from Level 1 and 2 training, and provides instruction for extra signs and symbols specific to safeguarding situations. Participants are invited to consider differing protocols and practice. The workshop will enable participants to consider how the vocabulary may be safely applied to promote communication for people who use Makaton within a range of levels and contexts. Content This unique workshop provides signs and symbols for a range of vocabulary covering a number of topics: People: family, relationships and people around us Body parts and clothes Places Feelings: feelings, thoughts and behaviours (including bullying and abuse) Sexual behaviour By the end of the workshop you will be able to: Develop a ‘Safeguarding through Makaton’ plan for implementation in your own setting. Demonstrate an understanding of the range of people Makaton users could come into contact with at different ages and stages in their lives; Demonstrate how Makaton can be personalised and used at different levels of complexity to meet individual needs; Identify vocabulary required by a Makaton user and be able to apply the principles of this analysis to the user’s own setting; Demonstrate an understanding of the difference between comments and questions, and an appreciation of how to maintain an interaction with a Makaton user; Describe strategies or methods appropriate to use with a Makaton user to help them understand and use vocabulary or concepts; Duration The Makaton Safeguarding Workshop is made up of 13 learning hours, and is commonly delivered over 2 full days. Alternatively, the Workshop comprises of 4 modules and can be delivered flexibly over a number of weeks to suit participant’s needs. Content Level 3 training provides a practical learning session on how apply the Makaton Language Programme. The Level 3 Workshop will start with a refresher on the signs previous taught in Levels 1 and 2, building on topics such as; people, activities, events and objects. New vocabulary will also be introduced which are ideal for personal development; feelings, interests, community and, thinking and knowing. You will begin to learn more abstract concepts such as propositions. Duration Face to face workshops comprise of a minimum of six and a half learning hours. Workshops generally will take place over a full day of training. Each session will be 90 minutes long In our Mummy Morning it will be very easy going with an option to take part in gentle core exercises to slowly strengthen our core and pelvic floors which is vital after birth, but not only that, we work on the whole of our bodies. Our bodies go through so much from carrying our little ones but the process during and after impacts our precious bodies, so we need to look after them. Mind, body and soul :)
