Date: Monday 11th December Time: 4pm Location: Studio A One of the most important British films of all time, Powell & Pressburger's Black Narcissus will be screened in advance of our December Professional Perspectives guest, Craig McCall, who will join us to speak about the career of Jack Cardiff, one of British cinema's most acclaimed cinematographers ever. Set in a mysterious monastery high in the Himalayas, the film focuses on the mental unravelling of a group of nuns trying to establish a school there, whilst erotic paintings on the ancient palace walls taunt their deepest, darkest desires. Come see the film that won Jack Cardiff the Oscar for Best Cinematography, and that lives on today as a prime example of psychological drama.

When a diamond heist goes horribly wrong, tensions rise in the warehouse where the crooks convene afterwards. As their stories conflict and intersect, we cut across time to understand how each of them got there, and what each of them is hiding from one another. There's a rat in the crew, and the dogs and going to sniff 'em out. When it debuted in 1992 this film smashed all expectations and became a surprise hit, launching Tarantino into the stratosphere as Hollywood's latest wunderkind. DATE: 12th February TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A The original Marriage Story, this 1970s classic tells the story of a couple's divorce, the impact it has on their son and their personal lives, and how they need to cope as parents, working with the person they've fallen out of love with. Featuring two towering performances from Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, this courtroom drama has lost none of its power and nuance, and remains one of the best examinations of the breakdown of a relationship ever put to film. When it was released in 1979, it was one of the first time a film confronted issues such as work-life balance, father's rights and expected gender roles. Told with heart as well as humour, this film will stay with you for a long time after the credits roll.

 Writing a song is quite often as simple as taking a look around, either at the external, or taking a look within at the internal, putting pen to paper, and then leaning on some tried and tested song forms. And, with over 100 years of popular music to explore there's an awful lot of reference material to help us along the way.  The road has already been paved for us, we just have to follow it.  In each session you'll be exploring unique exercises to foster authentic lyric writing whilst exploring key song forms and common music writing devices. You'll then have opportunity to take it further by attending supporting events such as our confidence inspiring Live Lounge Support Room where you can develop your stage craft ahead of our performance event, Live Lounge. Your creativity doesn't need to stop there, either. As a Guitar Social member you have access to our studio and rehearsal facility where you can record your work.  All of this makes The Guitar Social song writing program like no other, and I can't wait to have you take part.  Oh, and bring a pen. 

Date: 22nd January Time: 4pm Location: Studio A One of the most highly-acclaimed films of the 2010s (and rightly so), Bong Joon-Ho's 2019 masterpiece Parasite explores the crushing forces of social hierarchy, the deceptive nature of hope and familial bonds in a story that crosses several different genres in a tight, twisty manner. The Kim family live in a deprived area of Seoul, and must work together through trickery and manipulation to convince the much wealthier Park family to hire them as servants. As lies and deceptions mount atop one another, the Kims make a startling discovery that will push their abilities and reveal the darker side hidden in all of them. Come see the first film to win the Palme d'Or and Best Picture Oscar in over 60 years, and join us to discuss afterwards what this film means to you!

DATE: Thursday 8th June TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A MAX ALBRECHT is the creative director and founder of Critical Mask Pictures, a production company that focuses on narrative filmmaking. Max will be joining us on Thursday afternoon to discuss how best to market yourself and find work as a freelancer in the film and television industries. With years of experience under his belt, this will be a great Life Skills Session to attend to learn about life after CFS. Max will also discuss his experiences founding a production company and operating as a sole trader, so that attendees can learn of all the many ways to make a living independently in the business.
