This qualification is suitable for anyone who wants to work in a school or college setting in a full or part-time support role (this could be in an administrative role, technical or site support, voluntary work or working directly with children and young people in the classroom). Content The course is made up of 6 units covering the following themes: Child and young person development Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Schools and colleges as organisations Understanding children and young people’s health and safety. You’ll work in small groups, led by experienced tutors.

For higher risk or larger workplaces/organisations such as engineering, factories, restaurants, warehousing, construction or for those who use chemicals. This is also the appropriate course for larger low risk workplaces or workplaces who have employees with medical conditions. Duration FAW Initial - 18 hours (2 days face to face + 6hrs of elearning) RFAW Requal - 12 hours (2 days face to face, with a valid previous certificate) Syllabus A range of subjects are covered including: Day 1 Role of the First Aider Primary Survey Unresponsive (Breathing) - Recovery Position & Monitoring Unresponsive (Not-Breathing) - CPR & AED Bleeding (Catesrophic, Severe & Minor) Burns Choking Seizures Shock Day 2 Fractures, dislocations and spinal injuries Poisoning Heart attacks Head injuries Chest injuries Asthma Stroke Shock Severe Allergic Reaction Eye injuries Sprains and strains Diabetes Day 3 (elearning) For those who are completing the qualification for the first time or do not have a valid existing certificate, will be required to complete elearning, which can be done before the training or within 30 days after the training. Those re-qualifying, need not complete the elearning. Assessment Continual assessment is used, combined with a number of observed practical activities and 3 short theoretical assessments, supported by our experienced trainers. Practical Elements - in order to pass the course, you will be required to kneel down on the floor (primary survey), be rolled onto your side (recovery position) and perform 2 mins of rescue breaths and chest compressions (CPR). This will all have to be completed unaided. We’ll look at the why and the how of creating a consistent and considered style for presenting your work either online or for marketing materials. We’ll cover the basic kit you’ll need; the best camera settings to use; different lighting styles and how to achieve them; and composition and styling using a range of backgrounds and props to bring your images to life. No previous photography experience is needed. You’re welcome to use a phone camera or SLR/mirrorless camera, as you prefer, and to bring with you any other photography kit or props you may have, although this is not necessary. Developed by the Diocese of St Albans, the Alban Way is a year-long journey of spiritual development for young people and young adults, designed to help them grow in resilience, fruitfulness, and prayer. We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Gemma Madle, who will present her report on the program’s work—examining how spiritual disciplines have shaped the experience of children in Year 6 as they transition to secondary school, as well as young adults aged 18–35 taking part in a non-residential year out exploring God's calling in their lives. This is a valuable opportunity to reflect on the journey so far, celebrate what’s been achieved, and look ahead to what’s next. Whether you work with children, support young adults in faith, or are exploring how spiritual formation can be nurtured across life stages, this event offers rich insights and fresh inspiration for your own context.
