Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practice Training in Birmingham

Description - Overview of Phlebotomy (Venepuncture) & Simulated Practice Training

We are proud as a training organisation to be able to deliver this course in small groups. We only allow a maximum of 5 learners to attend this course as this ensures learners receive the support they require and plenty of hands on opportunity to learn this healthcare skill.

This training course is delivered by Healthcare Professionals with many years of on-the-job experience and who can guide you through the theoretical and practical elements of this essential healthcare skill, and answer any questions that may arise during your training.

We feel proud to be able to deliver training to smaller groups as we want to ensure learners experience a personalised and supportive training session allowing the Trainer to provide quality time and individualised support.

Venepuncture and phlebotomy go hand-in hand, so our courses cover both the puncturing of a vein (venepuncture) and the process of drawing blood from the venepuncture site (phlebotomy).

Our training course is for new and existing healthcare staff (Nurses, Senior Care Assistants and medical staff ) that is required to take blood samples from service-users and who wish to learn Phlebotomy and Training as a new skill but already have healthcare experience, or for staff who have previously trained but require a refresher course to update their existing knowledge and require practical simulation in line with the latest best practice guidelines.

The areas covered by this training:

* Define Phlebotomy

* Current Legislation, Record Keeping, Professionalism & Accountability

* Be able to recognise the anatomy and physiology relevant to obtaining a venous blood sample.

* Identify suitable veins from the ante-cubital fossa (ACF) for adults and children over 12 years

* Explore the problems in identifying suitable veins

* Identify complications and actions i.e. faint, anxiety, haematoma arterial puncture

* Order of Draw

* Demonstrate health and safety awareness issues related to Phlebotomy e.g. hand washing, needle stick injury, infection risk, and sharps disposal.

* Simulation Session to safely practice performing venepuncture/ phlebotomy techniques and procedures to obtain venous blood samples.

(*this simulation session does not deem you to be competent in phlebotomy/ venepuncture, this is an opportunity to practice phlebotomy on simulation arms and with Phlebotomy Training Pads on each other, you will receive a workbook at the end of the session to complete in your workplace by a competent/ trained mentor in phlebotomy to observe you under direct supervision until your workplace mentor deems you competent)
