Join us for an afternoon in our studio to explore the joys of resin art seascapes.

A fun creative workshop full of colour for any level and perfect gift! Just bring your keepsake along and discover how you will use Barbola to create your piece of art?  Barbola which was a popular technique found in the 1930's. You may have seen these beautiful vintage pieces? This technique was often found on mirrors, trinket boxes, fire screens and cigarette holders. It was originally made from gesso in the shape of flowers, fruit and leaves. On the day you will learn how to make your own flowers and leaves using moulds and how to make your piece have the charm of the 1930's! We will need any dietary requirements as a luxury cream tea lunch with a pot of tea or fizz will be served.. whatever you prefer! This one day event includes small items for you to work on and materials to create and paint your Barbola like acrylic paints. You can also choose from the whole range of paint from Sophie James Decor. Aimed at those who already speak Spanish but haven't practiced in a while or have lost their confidence in their ability to communicate in Spanish. During this single three-hour session, we will be meeting in the charming streets of Edinburgh, where we'll embark on a leisurely walk (weather permitting) and indulge in some wonderful Spanish tapas. As we stroll and enjoy some food, we'll refresh your Spanish skills, covering all the essential vocabulary and structures you're likely to use during your upcoming holiday. One non-alcoholic drink of your choice is included in the price of the course, however food isn't (but the tapas are worth every penny!). We offer flexible location options – just let us know your preference. You will leave feeling confident, motivated and ready to speak Spanish while abroad. *If you would like to take part in this session with your partner or a friend, you can do so! There is a £20 charge per additional participant, with a maximum of three participants per session including yourself. If you wish to book for more than one person, just proceed with the booking as normal and then let us know in the notes and we will contact you shortly to arrange payment for the additional participants.

What you'll do Have you ever wanted to create your own unique furniture? During this one day experience you’ll transform a pallet into a one-off piece of furniture for your home. First you'll find out how to source materials and discover the tools and techniques you’ll need to prepare your pallets for upcycling. Once Scott has introduced you to the workshop space, you’ll use a mix of hand and power tools to create your own piece, from a shoe or wine rack to a bird feeder, storage box or even a small bookcase. With your experience host's guidance, you'll leave with your own finished upcycled item. All materials, tools and safety equipment will be provided for you on the day. Everyone will have their temperature taken at the beginning of each day. Hand washing will be compulsory at set times during the courses. Face masks will be compulsory during the specific parts of the course where you will be breathing heavily due to exertion. The remainder of the course we will have face shields available as an option to facemasks. Face shields will be provided. But please bring your own face mask. On the day You don't need any previous woodwork experience, just some enthusiasm! Please wear old clothes (or something that you don’t mind getting damaged or torn) and sensible, closed toe footwear. Work boots are recommended. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day, but please bring along your own packed lunch. This is for current term time or summer term time students only. Our workshop is equipped with everything a jeweller could wish for. You will have your very own solid jewellers workbench to work on to complete your projects and your own tool kit meaning you won’t have to wait for tools. Your bench is also equipped with its own pendant motor. In the workshop you will also find soldering equipment on each bench, a wide range of professional stone setting tools for various stone setting styles, a wide range of hand tools, texturing tools, a rolling mill, a hydraulic press, polishing equipment, dapping tools and punches, all of which will allow you the chance to create your designs within a professional setting. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: You must be enrolled on our term time class or summer term or have experience. CLASS SIZE: 7 WHAT IS INCLUDED? All tools and consumables are supplied Please bring refreshments The cost of this course does not include materials. WHAT TO BRING: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of. Please bring any PPE, snacks and drinks to each session. We regret we can’t offer tea and coffee at the moment due to Coronavirus. This short course will help you take your images from the screen to final professional-quality prints. We will walk through the processes and techniques needed to take the mystery out of this often daunting and overlooked part of the creative process. By the end of the day you will have gained the skills and confidence to take digital files through preparation in Photoshop, optimisation, and onto physical test printing, adjustments and final output on Stills’ large format Epson inkjet printer. We’ll cover areas critical to the desired outcome including screen and print calibration, paper choice and ICC profile use. By the end of the day you will have two A3 prints on premium Hahnemule matt or gloss papers. Participants should have a basic understanding of Photoshop and attend with a selection of their own RAW files or high resolution TIFFs to work with through the practical exercises. Morning We will begin with evaluating our images and processing the file to maximise print quality output. We will then use Adobe Bridge, Adobe Camera Raw & Adobe Photoshop for the optimisation process. Participants will be guided in preparing their images ready for test printing, before evaluating and adjusting. Discussion will cover using ICC profiles, screen and print calibration, colour rendering, canvas sizing, and sharpening for final print output on various media. Afternoon We will then put the skills we have learned into practice, producing and evaluating test prints before undertaking our final A3 digital inkjet prints. Each participant will finish the session with two finished prints. There will be plenty of opportunity for participants to ask questions at every stage, so that you feel confident and can make informed decisions throughout the whole process. This course is designed for those who are already familiar with some digital photography processes but who want to pursue a particular aspect and develop skills in a specific genre. It is the perfect follow-on from our Digital SLR training courses and will support you in building upon your existing knowledge and allow you to work confidently on your own projects.   Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. Please register early, within five days of the start date, to reduce the likelihood of course cancellation.
