Ongoing fortnightly machine patchwork quilt course. Learn how to cut, sew, sandwich, quilt and bind to create your own patchwork quilt.

A standalone 10 week/session course that will introduce you to the basic materials, tools, equipment and techniques used in paper crafting and mixed media work and to Craft4Smiles C.I.C and our tutors. You will be sent all the materials and equipment needed to complete the course. At the end of each lesson you will have a crafted item to take away to keep or show family and friends. You will be told about the other courses you offer so that you can make an informed choice about further learning.

Attending a Maker Space session will give you an informal and enjoyable introduction to Computer Aided Design and Digital Manufacturing. We use only open source design software, that you can download and use at home for free. We have 3D Printers, a CNC Router, a Laser-cutter, a digital embroidery machine, and a 3D scanner, and all of them are available for you to use. Find out how to laser cut and engrave with Gifted Crafts Co. We’ve been lasering for 12 years now and have the experience to show for it. We use both kit style laser engravers and professional CO2 laser cutters throughout our workshop, so you can try lots of materials and techniques in both 2D and 3D. Our one-to-one sessions are designed to help you get started on your own projects, even if you don’t know anything about lasering. We’ll teach you the software, cover what materials work best for different techniques, and give you ideas for things to try out at home or in your studio.

Log Cabin Quilting gets its name from the layout of the pieces - log shaped strips built up around a central square, or ‘hearth’. In our log cabin quilting workshop, we’ll be taking you through how to measure, cut and sew this traditional block. The fabric choices, layouts and positioning can be used to make a huge range of patterns, and we’ll be explaining how to achieve this too. It’s suitable for total novices, we’ll help you through everything you need to know to build confidence in quilt-making. If you’re not yet comfortable with a rotary cutter and ruler, no problem – you can use precut 2 ½-inch strips, like Jelly Rolls, which make the process easier and just as enjoyable. More experienced quilters might get a bit more done, (the quilt size can be adjusted based on the speed of the quilter) and can benefit from Janine’s years of experience to pick up little tips and tricks for a professional, polished quilt. This workshop will take place over two full Saturdays. You will be provided with a materials list ahead of the sessions. This is a great quilt for getting through your scraps, or sewing with a jelly roll!
